Alrighty then. :) This track looks to be getting a pretty decent beginning reception from Hot AC. Currently the greatest gainer (in spins) at the format. I doubt it will get near having the 80+ stations that cimprise the format, but this is pretty decent.

I am a little surprised that this is "exploding" here right now. I mean, yeah it's Madonna, but usually Hot AC is a little "behind" on her tracks and waits for big pop support before pushing it onto their playlists. This could make a top 30 debut on next week's chart if it keeps gaining like this.

The tracking period is Monday-Sunday for the R&R charts, right? (that's how it is for Billboard's spins-based charts)
Would be cool if WPLJ in NY gives it some love- the other NYC Hot AC station is on it.
There are no Hot AC stations in my area (Northeast PA). :(

I feel your sadness, Kansas City also doesn't have a Hot AC station.
I'm surprised that "Hung Up" is taking off so fast, I thought it might be a little too poppy-dancy for Hot AC.

It's great to see this taking off so fast on this format! Hopefully this can get lots of audience here and make up for some of the urban audience she will be lacking.

HU will do pretty well in this format. The song has a good blend of the old and the new and that could do well based on the whole "wow factor" of the song.

Oh, it will never make upfor lack of urban play. The top song at Hot AC has around 19 million listeners; at urban, it's MUCH more than that.
But, it's cool to see that 39 stations are playing it in some form or other. Maybe a higherpeak than Die Another Day? That peaked at 23 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart.
HU should appear in the top 40 for Hot AC already; Hollywood peaked in the 30s, and didn't reach 300+ spins in a week.

I don't get how this is doing so well on Hot AC!
It sounds nothing like the songs that are on the Top 20 of that chart!
The only dance song I see there is "Listen To Your Heart," but I'm pretty sure that's mostly just the Acoustic version.

It's no longer the greatest gainer, but it's still going. I think people were surprised when "Music" did as well as it did at Hot AC/Adult Top 40- it didn't seem like the type of track that would hit top 20 there!

Thanks to bks for providing this early chart update:
Hung Up moves 30-21* on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart- M's highest rank on here since Don't Tell Me peaked at 4. Thereafter, she charted three times:
* What it Feels Like Fora Girl: No. 24 * Die Another Day: No. 23 * Hollywood: No. 35

I really can't believe this already outpeaked "Die Another Day" at HAC. Not that DAD was so HAC-friendly, but at least it wasn't flat out disco-techno. Not to mention that song was actually a huge Pop hit. "Hung Up"'s run at HAC is like some huge mystery to me.

Not only that, but to reach this point this quickly! Music also was a surprise hit at the format, peaking at 16- but it took some time to get there.
It could be the combination of a fresh, feel-good retro throwback track; the Abba factor could also be appealing to the format. Hung Up definitely sticks out from everything else on the Hot AC chart (or even the pop chart, for that matter), that's for sure (much like when "Music" and "Die Another Day" charted).

And that's humorous why? :)
I haven't checked Abba's recurrent play at Hot AC, but I'd think a couple tracks would get OK recurrent play.
More than naything, though, I think the reasoning is that the track itself sounds fresh, even with the sample. And it's a nice alternative to what most of the other songs on there sound like. It's an adventurous track for the format, so it's cool that it's spinningit as much as it is.

As simple as it sounds her being older leads to more success on HAC

Well, that's probably part of it, too. But that sure didn't help American Life get on the chart. The appeal of the song also is a factor. She's a core artist, and her recurrent tracks get OK play there. So it's nice to see the tradition continue a bit.

Looks to be a little tight at the bottom of the top 20- HU may hang around its No. 21 ranking in its 3rd week.

The other Hot AC station being WNEW, correct/ I just chedked itsp laylist- the most-played song in a week (Hung Up) played just 12 times. :o It does look like a take on KTU more than a regular Hot AC station. Odd how some stations are classified.

You're looking at the wrong chart. Remember "r" is official not "m"

How odd, that when you're on the regular lenghty pop page, and you go to the charts menu, that the "r" chart is the one that shows. To see the biggest gainers for the 'official" chart, what do you put in? It says "H1" for pop, for instance.
Nonetheless, the stations that aren't part of the regular panel, for the most part, are satellite stations, VH-1, etc. I'd also think that Mainstream Hit would be closer to Billboard's Mainstream Top 40, minus the satellite stations and MTV.

Thanks to bks for the new Billboard chart position:
Hung Up advances 21-17* on Adult Top 40. One position away from matching Music's peak at the format. :)

Anyone think this has a shot at the top 10 at the format? Sometimes this chat gets very tight, and it has tracks taking lengthy climbs upward. I remember Don't Tell Me- it just kept on inching its way up, before its eventual No. 4 peak. I highly doubt HU will peak as high or have as much longevity as DTM did, though.

I have two pop and two Hot AC stations in my area that I have been listening to recently... I've only heard this on one of the Hot AC stations.

HU receives the "Airpower" designation on this week's Adult Top 40 chart (where it moves 21-17*, as reported earlier). Looks like the Mediabase report that includes the greater number of stations is closer to that of Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart.

Hung Up's stuck in a tight part of the chart, so it may not get beyond its #17 peak at Adult Top 40. Stil la decent showing, though.
