Hello, everyone! I just thought I'd post a new weekly section called "Interesting Chart Facts." I'd like to know what you guys think.
Interesting Chart Facts
~ This week (9/2/2005) marks the third time that Rob Thomas has had two songs simultaneously in the top 4. He did it first with matchbox twenty on “Bent” and “If You’re Gone,” then with “Unwell” and “Bright Lights,” and now by himself with “Lonely No More” and “This Is How A Heart Breaks.”
~ A few weeks ago, Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want To Be” was knocked out of the #1 recurrent position by the Goo Goo Dolls. DeGraw began his reign back in October of last year! That’s a total of 36 weeks (excluding the two-week R&R holiday break), according to my tally. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this has to be a record.
Among other accomplishments, “I Don’t Want To Be” also became the highest ranked recurrent in recent memory, peaking at #9 on the sans-recurrent chart.
~ After spending 32 weeks in the top 10, Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" falls from #9 to #11. On the brighter side, Green Day won 7 Moonmen out of the 8 nominations at the VMAs. Hmmm . . . maybe they'll move back into the top 10. . . .

I like this feature! Soon we may be seeing Keith Urban make headlines as the first solo male country artist to make Hot AC's Top 10, and the first country artist period to make the Top 10 since "The Way You Love Me" about 5 years ago.
Here's a question: has any artist ever had 2 of Hot AC's top 2 or 3 songs?

Soon we may be seeing Keith Urban make headlines as the first solo male country artist to make Hot AC's Top 10 . . . :o Woah . . . that's HUGE news! :o . . . and the first country artist period to make the Top 10 since "The Way You Love Me" about 5 years ago. Indeed, Faith Hill was the last solo country artist to hit the top 10 at Hot AC. The last country act, however, was the Dixie Chicks, who did it in early 2003 with "Landslide" -- a song that pretty much holds the record for fastest and biggest dropper. It fell from #3 to #9 one week before completely falling off the next. Here's a question: has any artist ever had 2 of Hot AC's top 2 or 3 songs? That is a darn good question. Does ANYONE know the answer? (I've been following the chart since late 1999, and I haven't seen that happen yet.)

Very good chart fact!
One small footnote: Bob Carlisle hit both the Hot AC and County charts, but I don't think he's considered a country artist.

Oops, I forgot about the Dixie Chicks. I'm sure plenty others have, too ;). Yeah, I suppose Los Lonely Boys could be considered country. If so, then I think they were the last country band to hit the top 10. But anyway, I don't see much happening outside of the usual on this week's chart -- except for the fact that Gavin DeGraw's "Follow Through" is picking up HAC adds again, as well as on Pop. "Follow Through" was the #79 song of 2003. Gavin must be hoping the breakthrough success of "I Don't Want To Be" will help bring more attention to "Follow Through." I can't believe Santana and Michelle Branch are teaming up again! Here's a question: Does "The Game Of Love" hold the record for biggest mover within the top 20? I remember that it once moved up 10 notches. So, is that the record?

I'm not sure who holds the record within the top 20. But, I think My Heart Will Go On leaped about ten spots when it was rushing up the HAC chart, although it didn't hit #1. But, a MB20 or Santana song is a good choice for largest single week jump.

Speed Of Sound - Coldplay holds a record on the AAA chart I believe.
It debuted at number 4 on the chart, which is the highest I have seen any song debut on that chart.
But also it had the biggest dropper I've ever seen on the AAA chart, falling from 3 to 11.

The first solo male country artist to hit the top 10! Thanks to Topay for that information. ~ I noticed a coincidence between Lifehouse's "Hanging By A Moment" and "You And Me": Each song had been kicked out of the top after a 5-week reign, only to return to #1 later. Back in 2001, "Hanging By A Moment" had ended a 5-week reign at the top, but then returned to #1 -- after a 12-week absence. Similarly, "You And Me" had ended a 5-week reign at the top, and has now returned after a 5-week absence. Déjà Vu! So far, there have only been 6 songs to have split reigns at the top: "Now And Forever" by Richard Marx "As I Lay Me Down" by Sophie B. Hawkins "Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)" by Train "Hanging By A Moment" by Lifehouse "Unwell" by matchbox twenty "You And Me" by Lifehouse Lifehouse holds a strange record: the artist with the most songs to have interrupted runs at #1. ~ Green Day now has 3 songs in the top 20! The last artist to do this was Kelly Clarkson. Question: Are Kelly and Green Day the only two artists to have had 3 songs simultaneously in the top 20?

Very interesting for Lifehouse. And of course, interrupted runs are much more rare here on the Hot AC chart than on the Album, AC, or even Country charts (Pop and the rock charts tend to be pretty rare about this, too).
Green Day's accomplishment may be a one week thing: if Boulevard drops enough...and September gains enough, Billy Joe and the boys could kick themselves off the chart, with a good while longer before Holiday drops off.

Very good question! I was wondering that myself. However, I do remember when Shania Twain did it on the AC chart.

How close was Vertical Horizon? I know "Everything You Want" was on the chart for a long time, maybe even outlasting "You're A God". Did EYW, YAG and "Best I Ever Had" all appear in the Top 20?

I know for a fact that they did on Billboard but I wasn't following R&R very closely at the time so I couldn't be sure. But if Billboard's good enough for ya, then yeah they did.

I prefer Billboard anyway, so that is definitely good for me! Kelly and Green Day both pulled this feat off on Billboard as well, making it at least 3 artists to have 3 songs in the Top 20 of Billboard's Hot AC chart.

Vertical Horizon did it on R&R as well. All 3 songs were in the top 20 of the 2/2/2001 -2/23/2001 charts.

Interesting Chart Facts 10/14/2005
~ Who would have thought? Lifehouse's "You And Me" has become the band's biggest hit in terms of weeks at #1. It's currently on its 9th non-consecutive week at the top.
~ Two weeks ago, Keith Urban, the first solo male country artist to hit the top 10, also became the first one to crack the top 5.
~ Two weeks ago, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" cracked the top 5 in just its third week in the top 20. The last two songs to accomplish this feat were "Lonely No More" and "The Game Of Love." Incidentally, "The Game Of Love" hit #1 in only its 7th week in the top 20. Is that the record for fastest #1?
~ Hotshot debut: Last week, the Goo Goo Dolls debuted in the top 40 at #23. That's the highest debut since "Lonely No More." Record?

Looks like the one week at #5 will be all Keith gets. Still, very nice for a song from a 2002 album!
At20fantoo has a web site with a section specifically for Hot AC chart feats (feats for the whole chart, not just the top 20). According to that site, "If You Go" be Jon Secada debuted at #13 in April 1994. As far as this decade goes, I have Rob's #22 debut as the highest.
I'm curious too about the fastest-climbing #1. Hopefully someone else has the answer, either for just the Top 20 or for the whole chart.

It's a tie between: - "I'll Be There for You" by the Rembrandts - "Thank U" by Alanis Morissette Both songs debuted on the entire chart at #14, then reached #1 in their 6th week on the chart.

I wonder what the record is for the fastest rising #1 song since May, 2002 (when the chart extended from 30 songs to 40 songs)?

I wonder what the record is for the fastest rising #1 song since May, 2002 (when the chart extended from 30 songs to 40 songs)? The fastest climber to #1 on the 40 position HAC chart is the aforementioned "Game of Love" by Santana f/ Michelle Branch. The song reached #1 in only its 8th week in the top 40.

For the 10/14 chart, "Follow Through" by Gavin DeGraw is now in its 24th total week on the chart. It was allowed to re-enter from recurrent status a few weeks ago, and it holds steady at #31 this week. In its original run, it peaked at #27. Since it fell off the chart in November 2003, the gap between chart runs is nearly 2 years (Nov '03-Oct '05). Other songs have returned to the chart after a relatively long break:
"Secret Garden" by Bruce Springsteen fell off the chart in June '95, but returned in March '97, racking up a total of 22 weeks on the chart.
"To the Moon and Back" by Savage Garden fell off the chart in Sep '97 then returned in Jul '98, ending up with a total of 18 weeks on the chart.
A couple of songs returned after a few months off:
"I'll Stand by You" by the Pretenders fell off the chart in March '95, then returned in September '95, ending up with 29 weeks on the chart.
"Time of Your Life" by Green Day fell off the chart in March '98, then returned in June '98, racking up a total of 31 weeks on the chart.

Looking at the 10/14 sans-recurrent chart, I've noticed a very important fact: Kelly Clarkson has 4 songs in the top 40. I believe John Mayer was the last artist to accomplish that. I remember back on the old R&R boards that it was said that John Mayer was the first artist to do this. I guess Kelly is the second.

A couple of songs returned after a few months off: "I'll Stand by You" by the Pretenders fell off the chart in March '95, then returned in September '95, ending up with 29 weeks on the chart. What was the deal with that, anyway? I can see why the other songs came back (i.e. "Secret Garden" was featured in a successful movie, "To The Moon And Back" was re-released following the immense success of "Truly Madly Deeply", and "Time Of Your Life" was featured on the final episode of Seinfeld), but I don't remember anything happening that would have made "I'll Stand By You" make a comeback, albeit a short one. The song had already been removed from the chart via the recurrent rule, so it must have been re-released, or else it wouldn't have re-entered the chart.

I seem to remember "I'll Stand By You" being featured in a movie that year, but I can't remember which one.

For the 10/21 chart, "You And Me" is at #1 (probably for the last time) with spins of 2645. Now, that is incredibly low for a #1 song. In fact, I was looking through some old charts the other day and couldn't find anything lower than this. Could this be a record-setting "accomplishment"?
Interestingly, during my search I came across the chart for the week ending 3/12/2004. The #10 song on that list had 2679 plays -- that's 34 more plays than our current #1!
I just think it seems funny that the number TEN song on one chart can have more than the #1 on a different chart.
