I thought this deserved it's own topic. She covered Seal's "Crazy" for the new GAP commercials. They're considering a single release (potentially the first from her greatest hits). It's my favorite Seal song, so I expected it to be really difficult for her to impress me, but I love her cover of it. There's something really cool about someone who was huge in the 90's, covering a hit from the 90's, and keeping true to her and it's original styles. Sounds like a Hot AC smash to me. It's my favorite song Alanis has done since "Hands Clean".
Oh, and I love that she's working with Glenn Ballard again.

Nice rendition, but I prefer Seal's version easily.

This is very good. It would definitely be her biggest HAC hit in years. It's kind of strange hearing her sound so New Age though. While listening I was waiting to start hearing Sting sing alongside her or something lol.

This is a pretty good cover. I think this will do fairly well on Hot AC.

I just heard this for the first time a couple of minutes ago. On first listen, I agree it's one of her best from the last while. Hopefully it's a potential hit for her.

There's a promo single out for it, so I'm going to move it to Hot AC unless they change their minds and pull it.

Seriously though, I can't see this being a single in other countries and not here. Her last lead single was a lot less radio-friendly and still went Top 5 at HAC.

Yes I think this could be a HUGE hit for her if marketed right. She's never sounded better! Her vocals are really great. Nice and clear, yet strong and classical Alanis.

This is presumably the shot being used for the single cover. Alanis supposedly performed this at the World Music Awards.

Some news about this song:
The song will be different from the gap cd verision. Reports have said that its been rerecorded or edited or somthing to be a bit rockier/radio friendly and shorter. The single is meant to go to radio on 10/10. as for the vid it has not be shot yet, but it is meant to premiere on 10/7.
I hope she has a solid hit with this.
What do you guys think of its chances on pop?

I haven't heard this, but I'd love to see her get back on pop. Any clip from All Access yet?

This probably will make a dent on Pop. It's catchy and it's a song that's already familiar to PDs. I don't think it'll be a huge hit at Pop, but I can see it making the Top 30 months after it goes Top 10 at HAC.

I like it but I don't think it's good for Alanis in the long run to go with a cover. It shows that she's out of original ideas and has to use a cover to try to get back some charting success. Re: Counting Crows, Sugar Ray, etc.

Re: Counting Crows, Sugar Ray, etc. I don't think a cover will hurt Alanis, because she chose the right type of song to cover. It's not like she chose a novelty song like Sugar Ray did. Also, look how successful a cover was for Sheryl Crow in late 2003.

Re: Counting Crows, Sugar Ray, etc. I think she ran out of original ideas for the most part right after Jagged Little Pill and I think a lot of radio listeners feel the same way because she hasn't come remotely close to that success with an album since. Also judging by basically everything that followed "Thank U" when it comes to chart success, it's not like she has much of a "long run" to damage at this point. If it takes a cover to get her another big hit than so be it.

Although Sheryl was able to at least somewhat maintain a chart career after her hugely successful debut album whereas Alanis' kept declining. We'll see. I don't see 'Crazy' becoming any bigger than 'Everything' but I hope I'm wrong.

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is a braver, more inventive, more eloquent and in every way superior record to Jagged Little Pill, apart from it lacked hits.
The rot set in when she released that self-indulgent tripe "Hands Clean" although at least it had a nice tune. Even that was a decent album too. So Called Chaos is her only album i'm really not fond of.

Not that I think her other two albums are horrid. Hands Clean was just really boring to me (lacking the magic/oomph of Alanis) So Called Chaos was the exact opposite-a lot easier to listen to, but also not as...Alanis-y. If that makes sense.

I can't believe they chose the James Michael mix as the radio mix. I changed my mind about the potential for this song. It sounds dancy now.

People always compare the more recent Alanis with the angry Alanis of the first album, but there is something called evolution. Her later albums have been decent, and more decent than many albums that have shot up the album chart or have been overplayed on radio. Just because these albums weren't commercially successful in the US doesn't mean the quality of her music has become any less or she is now out of original ideas.

The remixes can be found here: www.unprodigalalanis.com/I much prefer the James mix, but fear its way too dance for Pop radio . But nevertheless I LOVE it. The freshest sound shes had for ages. The Ballard mix is ok, just rough and messy in parts. Not as pleasing sonically. What chances do you think this song has now. The James mix is supposed to be the single.
