FMQB still has 'Did You Get My Message' up for Triple A but 'Geek In The Pink' for Hot AC. Is it possible that Jason is doing a double release to two different formats?

If he is releasing two songs, that would be dumb. He is not at that level right now. Heck, he can barely get one song to get airplay right now.

I like it! It has more of a hip hop feel than any of his singles. I hope they service this to CHR, it may work better there. You have to admit it's a catchy song and the guy sooo darn unusual.

It's very catchy and I like it, not the mention the fact that it get's stuck in your head all day. I don't think it will do well anywhere though.

Why even waste your time on this. You'll never see this song on the Mediabase Hot AC chart unless you have access to see the full thing. More or less, this will never hit Top 20, lucky to hit Top 30.

Oh dear lord, this video's even more conceited than the song itself.
There's no question about it. Mraz is getting desperate to rescue his college-student fanbase. First he's had his extensive college campus tour, now a video which is basically all about desperately trying to promote his album to young 18-25 crowds.
In both these efforts, Mraz is only accomplishing the opposite; because he looks so conceited and noninclusive, he's only pushing these audiences further away, along with his Triple A audience.
This video is even worse than "Wordplay".
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

How is his entire album conceited? I don't see how it's anymore about him then pretty much any other album by any other artist? Other than 'Wordplay', of course.

How is his entire album conceited? I don't see how it's anymore about him then pretty much any other album by any other artist? Other than 'Wordplay', of course. Every artist writes from a personal standpoint. That is indeed true and it's the personality that makes the lifeblood of all music. But you can write from your personal standpoint and make it appear universal, or something many others can relate to. Some artists do this better than others and it's why matchbox twenty, Bruce Springsteen and Shakira to name a few have become so successful; they know how to universalize these sentiments that begin from themselves. Jason Mraz is really struggling to do that. "The Remedy" was a big hit, for one, because it was obviously catchy, but secondly because you can very easily relate to it. It was released not long after September 11th, and the song is basically about keeping a stiff-upper lip during shaky times and not let the weight of your worries pin you down. Among a generally somber musical atmosphere at the time, "The Remedy" put an optimistic face among all of that. Ever since then, he's struggling to make that sort of magic happen again. Now he's playing around with "the remedy" like a marketing or publicity stamp, like Marshal Mathers does with his Eminem/Slim Shady egos, as he blatantly did on "Wordplay". There are several tracks on "Mr. A-Z" that show signs of that hope; the proverbial sunshine of "Life Is Wonderful" and "Bella Luna", and "Please Don't Tell Her". The whole rest of the album is intentionally selfish, from "Wordplay" to the "I may be skinny at times but I'm fat fulla rhymes, pass me the mic and I'm a grab at it." talk in "Geek In The Pink", to all the other narcissisms he sprinkles across the album, from "The Forecast" to "Mr. Curiosity". Like it has been argued before, it is certainly fair to say Mraz just wants to be more of an entertaining songwriter than anything. That's absolutely fine. I'm just saying he can't expect to have any future at Top 40 if he's going to remain this conceited, as well as make pathways through the college crowd, which really are the most eclectic music audience of all...and the video for this single reveals loud and clear his desperate aim to hold onto that audience. Artists who enjoy career longevity have to understand their audience just as a public speaker has to analyze the crowd he/she is prepared to speak to before doing so. If Mraz truly isn't intending to perform to a specific demographic or audience and mainly is just going after young adults who love wearing pink and young women with red tops and matching bottoms, that's absolutely cool. But if Mraz really wants to hold true to a particular crowd and I KNOW he wants to do so with young listeners, he's really failing in this promotional effort. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Well maybe he knows what he's doing and he's doing what he wants. You just don't like it and you seem to be having a hard time accepting it by bashing everything he's done since 'Wordplay' first surfaced. I doubt he's dumb and I doubt his label is dumb as they wouldn't let him just go down. They have promoted his album a bit and 'Wordplay' wasn't a complete flop. You may be right in his success but I'm sure Jason is doing what he wants to do and I doubt he'll be going away anytime soon, he just may not see the same success that 'The Remedy' was again.

How is he conceited? These statements make no sense. Mraz f*ckin ROCKS lyrically and he knows how to make relatable music that he cares about and that others can groove to...what makes GEEK so conceited? its my favorite song off of MR. A-Z and im a HUGE Mraz fan...have been for years, i have all of his unreleased stuff and i still LOVE his new record and GEEK deserves to be huge...

I think this is better than "Wordplay," if they send it to Pop it could become a surprise hit, people love hearing goofy songs like this, remember "Stacy's Mom?" Not saying it would become that big, but I still think people would like it more than a lot of people are thinking here. Am I the only one who hears "This Love" in this song? Something about it reminds me of it.

Oh lordy, I don't even have to comment, I'll let the lyrics speak for themselves:
"Hey look at me go/From hero to zero/Oh, take it from a geek like me/I can save you from unoriginal dum-dums"

A ridiculous song in a whole different league than "The Remedy", let alone anything good.
Does everyone have to go hip-hop? That's not this guy's strength.
Blecch!!

I wouldn't exactly call it hip-hop but his first CD had this type of "rapping" as well.
BTW, 'Did You Get My Message' is officially a single too over at Triple A so that topic can get moved back now! :)

I really cannot get into this as much I did with "Wordplay". This song peaked at #38 on my charts a month ago then fell out the next week, one week on the chart only. My point is that this song IMO is a bit disappointing and others warned about the rest of the album.

I really like this song. It has a great beat and it's something I can really move to.
(OK, I'll admit it, that actually came from a recent edition of "FOX All Access" with Chris Leary, but it was my feelings exactly. A great song!)
