The single's off to a strong opening at Triple A (+100 currently)
I do predict it's going to hit a roadblock though and have a run similar to the most recent Barenaked Ladies singles ("Another Postcard" and "Testing 1, 2, 3" both had huge debuts but stalled abruptly just as they entered the Top 20 and failed to go Top 10.)
This song is just not a song that's going to keep winning over many Triple A listeners because of the lyrics and its too poppy of a sound.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This is crap. At least it's better than Curbside Prophet -- Wordplay only got annoying at the second listen.

I'm afraid they won't release a 2nd single... Poor Jason :(

I'm afraid they won't release a 2nd single... Poor Jason :( They'll release a second single, but the album won't go beyond that. Whatever track they release will inevitably flop though. "Geek In The Pink" is just as conceited and overly poppy as "Wordplay", "Please Don't Tell Her", the track Mraz wants released, isn't radio-friendly anyway, and "Did You Get My Message?", which is the track closest to sounding radio-friendly enough while also not sounding overly conceited, still sounds too routine to gather or "convert" listeners. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"Did You Get My Message?", which is the track closest to sounding radio-friendly enough while also not sounding overly conceited, still sounds too routine to gather or "convert" listeners. Routine how so?It basically follows the same formula musically as tracks like "Sleep All Day" and "Curbside Prophet" did, where there's no change of pace and the track sticks to the same tempo all the way through without any additional musical accompaniment. He's following this familiar formula, thus the "routine" sound. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Sounds to me like all the changes as the song progresses are in the vocal arrangements, which change quite a lot throughout the song. I think 'Did You Get My Message' is prolly Jason's best song behind 'On Love, In Sadness', which also faced no musical pace and tempo change.

I think 'Did You Get My Message' is prolly Jason's best song behind 'On Love, In Sadness', which also faced no musical pace and tempo change. It was the lyrics that made "On Love, In Sadness" a favorite of his to me, naturally, as is "Tonight, Not Again", "You & I Both" and "Please Don't Tell Her" from the new record. Even on his debut record, I never thought of Mraz as an exciting artist musically; it was the lyrics that made him enjoyable to listen to. He was able to balance silliness and cute-boy persona with that adult alternative emo on the debut record, whereas on the new record it lacks that balance and in its place there's a parade of overproduced, lyrically self-indulged tunes, which just makes this record feel much less Mrazish than the debut. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
