Typical Jason Mraz title.

Predicting this track's run will be a mystery as well.
I figured when "The Remedy" was gaining much steam that Jason Mraz would end up being in 2003 what John Mayer was the year before. I figured his album would zoom straight up into the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 and go double-platinum before the album was a wrap.
I was wrong. "Waiting For My Rocket To Come" I suppose was received well enough to ensure Mraz a shot at additional hype off a following release, but it only got certified gold and his label may be a bit shy in promoting Mraz heavily here.
One thing I do believe is that this single will at least go Top 20 on Hot AC. But I must say I'm not already convinced it can go Top 10.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Jason Mraz is a pretty awful artist in my opinion, unless this song is amazing, I don't see this song even hitting Top 20. Curbside Prophet was a trainwreck, and You & I Both only got airplay because of The Remedy, a pretty good single. The rest of the album was torture, and I can't see this being any better.

"The Remedy" was a fun song until it got overplayed. His follow-ups never did anything for me though. I liked them fine but they weren't catchy enough to make me want to listen to them. They were kind of bland.
Hopefully since this is a lead single, it'll have more oomph. The title is kind of cool, but if the lyrics are "playful" I just hope it doesn't end up being goofy.

But I knew all along "Curbside Prophet" would be a shipwreck, because, simply, it wasn't a good single. It was all country-fried hip-hop with lyrics his older fans wouldn't take seriously. Jason Mraz's debut release was OK, just not exemplary by any means. "On Love, In Sadness" and "Tonight, Not Again" were strong tracks, which the former I believe should have been the third single instead of CP. I'm not one who is going to rush to the store the day this sophomore CD comes out and buy it. I will buy it if this track and the follow-up sound pleasing to my ears. Sncerely, Noah Eaton

That's what I'm most afraid of here. You see, I absolutely love fun, idiosyncratic songwriting. But when you try too hard, it actually sounds worse than not trying at all often to me. I'm concerned "Wordplay" may be like what "Save The Day" was for Train. I believe "Save The Day" is the single worst song Train has ever written and recorded. Even Pat Monahan sounded bored singing off some of the lyrics, like the lame karaoke-hokey-pokey couplet in the song's second stanza, or the "I got a Coppertone tan like in Mexico, not now but when I go." My God, that was awful songwriting, and I usually kind of like Train too. In terms of his own material, I hope "Wordplay" is more like "The Remedy" and much less like "Too Much Food". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I can't wait for Jason's CD and will buy it the first day! This song sounds like it could be another 'The Remedy' with crazy 'Curbside Prophet' lyrics.

it will be more like Too Much Food rather than The Remedy. Jason has said a few times that he wants to do more scatting, lyrical rapping on this album. Evidenced by the song title "Wordplay" and the title of the album, "Mr. A-Z".
Horrible.

I think he is a lot of fun, I really like his lyrics and especially Too Much Food. He's not one to take seriously, just to enjoy his ramblings.
Can't wait!

I know. I don't know why people don't like him because he's not a serious artist. Whoever said he was a serious artist? He has a few serious songs but for the most part they are just simple fun songs that play with words and lyrics and based on stuff I heard from concerts and pictures I've seen, it seems like he'd rather be a fun artist rather than a serious one anyway.

He has a few serious songs but for the most part they are just simple fun songs that play with words and lyrics and based on stuff I heard from concerts and pictures I've seen, it seems like he'd rather be a fun artist rather than a serious one anyway. I think there's a side of Mraz that actually wants to be an accomplished songwriter though. "You & I Both", "On Love, In Sadness", "The Boy's Gone" and "Tonight, Not Again" really reflect that. A poet co-wrote the lyrics on two of those tracks. Besides that, those were the best tracks musically as well, with the latter the closest to a potential Dave Matthews-esque jam. Most people who thought of his debut as bland based their impression on the music, not the lyrics. So I wonder if he wants to be a fun artist if he's going to make his music equally as random on the new album. If not, then that gives me the impression Jason Mraz is only boring himself out and because he tries too hard to write catchy songs lyrically, it would only make them appear unmoving. If this new album is going to be just how Mraz said it will be, I think this album is going to flop, period. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I bought his last album and liked about half of it. I'm interested in this, but honestly he's actually gone downhill in my book. I saw him live and he was super boring. Just mediocre through and through.

You guys must be on crack. If you're rating Jason Mraz solely on his studio release or singles like the remedy then you don't know the half of his talent.
I think his new single should do well as well as the album.

Heard a portion of this song and I like what I heard. The tracklist is out as well, and I've heard some of the songs live (geek in the pink, text message, plane etc.)
Anyway, I dont think this album will be dissapointing, as he had more control over this then his last effort. Either way I can tell just from the sample I heard this is a very radio friendly song, and its going to get lots of airplay.

I think his new single should do well as well as the album. Jason Mraz strikes me as a hit-and-miss artist after hearing the first album as well as some of his rarities. I do think this album is going to flop, though, because there just isn't any real anticipation (is there even a "MR. A-Z Era thread here?) and, on top of that, his first album could only go gold even with a Top 10 hit. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I can't see this doing anything. It'll squeak a Top 20 showing, but other than that, it'll fade rather quickly. So all in all, yeah, this will do closer to nothing than everything. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This isn't nearly as annoying as "Curbside Prophet" (as some of the comments here and in the other thread led me to believe). It's more of a combination of "Curbside" and "You and I Both". I don't mind it.
