How do you think this will do at Hot AC? I think this song is much better and more interesting than "Everything" but Hot Adult may disagree. This could either be another Top 10 for her or falter right outside the Top 10 like "Precious Illusions". I'm hoping for the former.
I'll go for a prediction of #9.

This should do a lot better overall than Everything. It's "classic" Alanis, if you will. Strange lyrics, loud and catchy chorus, and upbeat. I really hope they push this one to pop. A moderate pop hit could really help the album out a lot. Hot AC may not receive this as well as they did Everything. But I'm hoping it does well.

I think it's way too early to say how anything will do compared to "Everything", which has many weeks to go on the HotAC chart, and possibly a good run on the Pop chart. I do agree, Everything could be a warm-up single to Eight Easy Steps being her comeback hit (comeback meaning she enters the CHR Top 10 for the first time since '98?)

I think there's about a 0.00001% chance this will hit the Top 10 at pop, especially considering she's signed to Maverick.

I think this single will perform depending on the sales of "So Called Chaos"
If her new album goes under, this will undoubtedly be a "Precious Illusions". If she makes a comeback of any sort, this will have more longevity.
I will not make my prediction until I see the album in two weeks of release.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I really hope this does well. At least Top 15 on Hot AC, so it paves the way for the smash single Excuses. They cant ignore Excuses then.

My rock station played Alanis' album last night. I didn't get to hear much, I just knew they were playing Alanis. I'll wait for the CD.

OK, I've made up my mind now.
This is going to flop.
The album has already tanked below the Top 100 on the Billboard 200, and the single will also tank in the process.
My Prediction: #22
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

When is her next single due? 'Everything' was sent to Pop but didn't make the Top 50 so it's definately time to release a song to all formats at once. It's not too late just yet but waiting one more month could make a difference.

"Everything" went Top 5 at Adult Top 40 which is what record companies are aiming for these days. It's a core audience. That's all you can hope for is to win at your own format. I can't see Jay-Z going Top 5 at Hot AC and Alanis can't go Top 5 at Pop anymore. I don't think the records companies care, Mary Conroy at Atlantic told me that If a song makes it to top 20 status at hot ac it's a success and hopefully sales are too, but through out time theres been bands with 2 or 3 top 10 hits off a cd and get out sold by a rock band with no top 40 hits. So I think Alanis is doing fine, her videos all over vh1 and radio and i've never seen anything official on single # 2 yet so it can't flop until they pick one. I'd say if she has another strong single it could rebound her cd, but it will probably in my prediction go platinum and have 2 more hits off it.

Hopefully it can get top 10 with Everything loseing spins in huge numbers it will be removed to recurrent in 2-4 weeks. It's been in the Top 30 for 17, not sure about top 40.
So-Called Chaos has really not sold good, with a hit on POP it maybe able to sell a million copies.

Second Most Added on Hot AC with 18 adds but under what week would it be listed for Going For Adds on R&R? The next chart (next Wednesday)? It wasn't listed anytime before this week and isn't under this week's list. Is this a good sign? How is it doing in early airplay thus far? Do station edit out "ass" in the hilarious bridge?

Im confused about what is happening with this song? When was the adds date? If its got 18 adds, why is their barely a mention of it on mediabase ??? Some fans have been hearing the song on radio around the place.

On Mediabase it's gained 9 stations and 125 plays so we should see it next week on R&R's chart.

ALANIS MORISSETTE Eight Easy Steps Producer(s): Alanis Morissette, John Shanks, Tim Thorney Writer(s): A. Morissette Publisher(s): Szeretek/BMG (ASCAP) Genre: POP Label/Catalog Number: Maverick 101384 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: August 28, 2004
For all the enlightenment that Alanis Morissette brought to women in the mid- to late '90s, her latest single, "Eight Easy Steps," leaves us in the dark. The verses are a shrill mumble of incomprehension, followed by a chorus that is so rhythmically harsh and vocally off-key that one has to wonder what the artist is hoping to accomplish. The song's frantic pace and grating assault of guitars does nothing to make it more listenable. The American public has not embraced Morissette's latest album, "So-Called Chaos," and this release is sour enough to make the title embarrassingly ironic. Forget about it this time around; this song just plain hurts.βCT

"So Called Chaos" is a fairly radical departure from what defined Alanis on the mega-smash "Jagged Little Pill". Gone is all the kitsch that we heard in "All I Really Want" and "You Oughta Know", and the smooth ratchet roller-coasting puns we heard in "Ironic" and "Mary Jane". Alanis was incredibly symbolic then, like not even a poster child for women and alternative rock and pop, but close to a musical messiah to them, but now she is more of just someone holding up a sign of the impression she used to make no matter where you were. This is probably one of two best songs from the record, but each release since her debut has gone more downhill than its predecessor. I so agree with SingingSparrow and the Billboard reviewer!!
Although I would grade both So-Called Chaos and Under Rug Swept a C.

I heard the song for the first time this weekend.Β If the DJ hadn't announced the song before they played it, I wouldn't have even known it was Alanis.Β I like artists to change up their style so they don't get boring but only if the new stuff is good.Β This song is not good! Alanis' career is not looking good in the US.Β Two bad albums in a row (creativitely and commercially).
My take on Alanis is that she thinks she is more "artistic" than she really is.Β Jagged Little Pill was a great album with some very good songs that came out at the right time.Β Alanis also had her producer co-write with her.Β In all honesty, Alanis needs a co-writer to come up with good songs.Β She just isn't that strong a writer by herself.

I think Alanis needs to kind of change her "style" of writing. She is a good lyricist, but sometimes her songs have the same structure (listing, especially) and they sound the same.
I'm surprised someone wouldn't recognize Alanis on 8 Easy Steps... it sounds exactly like something she'd do. Big words, loud guitars, catchy chorus.... just like all her singles.
Alanis definitely needs a change of sound for her next record.

It's weird that this topic is getting mostly negative comments on the song while the same topic in CHR/Pop is getting mostly positive comments.
