Remember last year when people were saying that 'Bright Lights' was being released WAY too soon after 'Unwell'? It ended up doing quite well and, if I remember correctly, is still Top 10.
Well, 'She Will Be Loved' is getting released to Hot AC in a month from now and with 'This Love' at #1, is it too soon to release a followup to Hot AC and expect it to be a hit? I think 'SWBL' has huge 'Bright Lights' potential on Hot AC but it is really quick after 'This Love', which will probably hang around for a bit.
Any thoughts?

I like She Will Be Loved, but like Tangled much better.Β I think Maroon 5 is kinda the "it" band right now.Β So I think whatever they release will be played a lot.Β Does seem a bit early to release a new song though.Β Maybe they want it out for the summer tour.Β Hey, just recently found this M5 website.Β Thought others might be interested too. www.m5live.com/

"She Will Be Loved' will most likely make another #1 hit for Maroon 5, and they deserve it.
It seems there may not be any real competition currently ahead in challenging Maroon 5 either. Until Rob Thomas releases his solo album, I don't see any currently known future release standing a chance to derail this from #1.

Before I forget, Noah, start doing PSI, you of all people know who's good and who isn't.
Second, this will be a smash hit for Maroon 5. This is going to be one of the most popular summer rock-ballads (if you can even say it's rock), in a while. This will peak at #1 on three formats (AC, Hot AC, and Pop), for the following reasons:
- Maroon 5 is radio's "hot new band" right now, all demographics praise their music. - She Will Be Loved can still be played in rotation with This Love because the songs sound completely different. They will not steal too many spins from each other. - Their hasn't been a song this light put out by a popular pop\rock artist in a long time. It has the same feel as Iris, If You're Gone, etc. all huge hits. Some could say "the reason" could be in that category, but I think it's a little too heavy for AC, but AC is chagning too, and hopefully it will do well there too.
This will be a huge one

Looks like the answer to this question is YES.
Don't be suprised to see Maroon 5 pick up their second consecutive #1 hit not only on Hot AC but on CHR/Pop as well.

It's one of the few songs with big gains on HOT AC so I see a number one. On POP also it is the biggest gainer with 700 spins, so I see a number one there to. "This Love I" hope never makes AC top 5, but "She Will Be Loved" could go top 5 on AC and I wouldn't care.

One of the worst mis-matches for AC. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

One of the worst mis-matches for AC. I don't agree with this. The "raunchy" lyrics you mention are merely suggestive and seductive. They are not explicit (yes there is a swear in the original, but that aside). To think that AC listeners are not open to sexual or suggestive lyrics is foolish and a sweeping decision. Let's not forget that these stations play many 70s hits that in and of themselves are VERY suggestive (especially some disco hits). Plus, let's not forget that the deomgraphics for Hot AC and AC listenes does have some overlap.

Yeah, why would anyone over the age of 30 want to listen to upbeat music? Gramma's gettin' heart palpitations jest thinkin' about it... play some Lawrence Welk, now that's more like it!

I'm hearing "She Will Be Loved" every second hour on my Hot AC station, so I think the song will go far.

I just hope AC doesn't become like HOT AC, it's the one place where artist like Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Phil Collins can count on a hit.
What's the chance Phil Collins ever gets into the Top 20 on POP or HOT AC? Thanks to Sony Celine Dion might as well start putting out noting but AC songs, maybe one a year so they can spend 70 weeks on it.
The day the AC chart plays rap will be the day I die.

Uhh, lately at least two of those artists are not "counting" on hits on the AC chart (Celine & Phil). Phil still has a shot on Hot AC. In 1999, You'll Be In My Heart reached #20 on the Hot AC chart and then in 2000 Don Henley's "Taking You Home" peaked at like #13 or so. It is certainly possible for AC artists to still score top 20 hits on the Hot AC chart, but I will agree it is becoming increasingly difficult.

Phil's last song that went for adds went top 10. As for Celine this is like "I Drove All Night" and "Have You Ever Been In Love" IDAN hit #8 and stayed for 18 or so weeks, then HYEBIL hit #2 and satyed on for 45 weeks. If Sony puts out "Ain't Gona Look The Other Way" Celine will probally get herself another top 5.
