Yay, got 6th row seat for the MB20 concert in Cleveland. I ended up using the Target pre-sale code since the Fan Club seats were worse. That totally sucks! But I'm very, very happy!

I thought about trying for the Cleveland show but then thought better of that. LOL! Atlanta in January sounds a little better than Cleveland. I also got 6th row but I did pay more than face value for the tickets. Shame on me I know but I'm traveling to go to this show and wanted good seats to my only show of the tour. I think Rob is doing pretty well in the money department. I have no idea what his net worth is...my guess about 45-55 million. I read in 2001-2002(?) that he had already made about 5 million from the music publishing on Smooth alone.

I was a little surprised by the cost of the tickets for the better seats on Ticketmaster. But since this is pretty much Thomas's gift to the matchbox guys and giving them an opportunity to finally earn some bread after watching him rake it in these last few years, I guess I shouldn't be so surprised. I've heard one member in particular was pushing for the higher bucks. His bank account must have been getting low. Interesting rumor...probably the same member that I heard a similiar cash flow "rumor" about a few years ago. As I have previously stated, I see Rob as more of a solo artist now. I even see that as more of the case if this album tumbles down the charts. Rob could do that well on his own. Speaking of charts, I see that EOM sits at #64 in its 8th week. I think sales in the US are about 362,000 (estimate). Anyone have a soundscan figure? 131,000 72,000 41,119 26,000 26,000 20,000 21,000 21,000 Downloads for HFWC are around 886,000 (very good for this band). To me it appears fans of the song aren't necessarily buying the album.

What band member was pushing for higher ticket prices? Where do you hear these rumors? Just curious.

What band member was pushing for higher ticket prices? Where do you hear these rumors? Just curious. Well, a rumor is just that...a rumor. I had heard a few years ago that Kyle had lost some money on his recording studio in Orlando and with his The New Left side-project. Again, it was just a rumor...a friend heard it from a friend, etc. I didn't read this on any board but I did hear it from two different sources that don't know each other. It's really no big deal whether it's true or not. However, when I read what Kai posted I thought of Kyle. I hadn't heard that rumor about ticket prices nor do I know if Kyle is the band member she/he is referring to. I generally don't post about any rumor that I hear about (which isn't many) but since you asked directly and this rumor is several years old I didn't see a problem with it. Again, it was just a rumor and as I've read on Rob's board, Kyle has since moved his studio to Nashville. Hopefully, it's doing better for him there.

Thanks for the info on the rumor. I did see that Kyle mentioned on the MVI that he had moved to Nashville. I assume that means he uprooted his wife and kids and moved there. That's a big deal. I assume all the band members will split the publishing $ for any of the new singles. And the tour & merchandise proceeds too. They must have had to work out a different way to split the money now that they are all on record as the "songwriters" equally. I really wish we knew who wrote what though. I'm just curious as heck! I did hear a radio show just this past week where Rob said that he wrote the verses of HFWC and Paul wrote the chorus. But I'd still like to have been a fly on the wall to see who REALLY wrote the bulk of these songs.

I've wondered too if Kyle moved his entire family to Nashville. I assume he did too but I don't know that for sure. I think his wife is an attorney so maybe she works, too.
I'm so glad you mentioned that you hate not knowing who wrote what. I do, too. Actually, it kind of bugs me. Thanks for the comment that Rob made about HFWC. I hadn't heard that either.

He has earned every penny of his net worth, unlike a lot of todays artists, he is extremely talented.

Soundscan for EOM in week #7 was 344,390. Add about 21k to that for last week and you get about 365,000. This album will get a Gold certification but it's very unlikely that it will be certified Platinum.
I wonder what the label and the band's expectations were? It is a greatest hits album but they really marketed it as a new album. They did about the same amount of PR for it too. Therefore, I think we can assume that they expected more in sales for this album than say the GGDs who just released a GH album but don't have a single or video out.
MB20 made the decision to take a break. I wonder if they really thought they could come back and be as big as they were before. Biting off an arena tour in the winter may not have been the wisest move either. I guess it's all about expectations. But by going out on an arena tour it says that you expect a certain amount of popularity. Time will tell I guess. I've looked at about 5 shows on Ticketmaster and Mohegan Sun (sold out from TM), Madison Square Garden, and Patriot Center seem to be selling well. LA is okay; Atanta not so great. What about your show?

Interesting article posted over in the General Music News section. This is only part of the article but I highlighted the part pertaining to Smooth. Yeah, Rob has made a mint from that song along with the other co-writer, Ital Shur.
Radio’s Newest Strategy: Play a Hit, Again and Again - NY Times
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 — For the millions of Americans who listened to Top 40 radio last week, it was almost impossible to miss “Apologize,” the string-tinged elegy performed by the modern rock band OneRepublic and remixed by the eclectic producer Timbaland. WIOQ-FM, a pop station in Philadelphia, played the song 123 times last week, letting as little as 50 minutes tick by between repeat spins. And this month, “Apologize” broke the record for the most plays of a song on the nation’s Top 40 stations in a single week since computerized tracking began in 1990. The song played more than 10,240 times in a week, reaching an estimated audience of more than 70 million listeners, according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, an airplay monitoring service, and the chart-keepers at Radio & Records, a music trade magazine.
The song’s success is more than yet another sign of Timbaland’s prowess — it’s the third hit from his latest album, “Timbaland Presents Shock Value” (Interscope), a compilation of genre-bending collaborations with everyone from Elton John to Fall Out Boy.
It’s also a sign of how radio stations are responding to the competition for listeners as radio’s audience fragments and rival entertainment choices abound. While the overwhelming majority of Americans still tune into traditional broadcast radio each week, they are listening less. And they are increasingly drawn to the dizzying choices of music and other programming available on iPods and satellite and Internet radio.
But many pop radio programmers appear keen to repeat the biggest hits as much as — or more than — ever. “Apologize” surpassed a record that had been set only in July by Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” according to the data. Of the 10 songs that have notched the most plays in one week, 8 joined the list in the last three years. And the oldest of the 10, Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated,” dates only to 2002. (The all-time most-played song across all radio formats is Santana’s “Smooth,” with more than 1.1 million total plays since it was released in 1999.)

How can you compare plays in one week between a song released in a year when stations played songs a max of 75 times per week and a year when stations play songs a max of 123 times a week? It doesn't mean the song is more popular - it just means the stations spinning their power songs 120x a week have an audience that listens to the station much fewer hours per day (i. e. it's not on in the workplace or on commuter's radios) (Sorry really sick of hearing this completely meaningless report from Mediabase - I don't doubt that Apologize an extremely popular song, but not necessarily any more popular than Ironic when it came out, or All Star when it came out) BTW, WIOQ/Philly does not have very good ratings, so I'm not actually sure how many people actually heard Apologize that many times...

I understand what you are saying about comparing 1 week plays now and, say, ten years ago. But that doesn't negate the point of Rumors post: "The all-time most-played song across all radio formats is Santana’s “Smooth,” with more than 1.1 million total plays since it was released in 1999."
The discussion is how much Rob may have made from co-writing & singing on Smooth & 1.1 MILLION plays is a hell of a lot of coin in his pocket! Most artists, that one song would have been reason enough to retire. Think of all the other hits he's got raking in the bucks. It boggles the brain.

Oh sorry wasn't talkin about the stat for "Smooth" - actually didn't even see it Just saw that same article about "Apologize" for the tenth time and responded to the ridiculousness of that whole "record-breaking" hype

We'll have to see what the last chart update is tonight but HFWC is now at #2. It obviously won't be there but a day or two but it did reach it. THT is at #52 with about 6 stations playing it.
