Man, #1 is great! That might be matchbox twenty's first #1 album ever, in any country. That's pure speculation on my part. One interesting fact about matchbox twenty's album sales in Australia is that "More Than You Think You are" has actually outsold "Mad Season" in Australia. IIRC, Mad Season is 4x platinum in Australia, but MTYTYA is actually certified 5x platinum. That makes me thing that the Aussies know a lot more about good music than their American counterparts. IMO, MTYTYA is so far superior to Mad Season that it ain't even funny. I wanna move to Australia! Matchbox Twenty Mainstream Tops Mainstream Chart by Paul Cashmere - October 8 2007 Matchbox Twenty has the number one album in Australia this week. 'Exile On Mainstream', the band's hybrid greatest hits and new studio album, entered the Aussie chart with sales of 18,199 units. MB20 are no strangers to the Australian charts. All three of their studio albums have hit number one. The debut 'Yourself Or Someone Like You' is certified 10 times platinum. Matchbox Twenty have sold more than 1.5 million albums in Australia and 28 million worldwide. undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=3025

I've got to say that this song is growing on me big time. I liked it to begin with but now I LOVE it. I think it's after seeing the band perform it live on Leno, Kimmel, Today & Ellen. They put so much energy and fun into it. Can't wait to see them on tour. Hope they come someplace close and I'd love to do a road trip too. The other songs on the album are growing on me a lot too. Still hate the intro to "All Your Reasons", just sounds so amateurish to me. But love the rest of the song. So, too bad the intro is so bad, IMO. Wondering what the second single will be. Hey, an instrumental part of "If I Fall" reminds me of some other artist. Is it Sufjan Stevens?? Anyone familiar with his work?

I can't believe how far this song has come considering that it sounds like it was thrown together in less than 5 minutes. I expected much better from MB20 - especially 4 years since their last work. The band certainly has the capability of great music, especially with Rob Thomas at the helm.

I can understand the disappointment in some ways from fans that are used to involved lyrics and more complex music from Matchbox twenty.
However, in my opinion, sometimes simplistic lyrics and simplistic music can be just as genius as complex, and I really believe this song is an example of that. Actually, intentional or not, this song will reach out to Christians believe it or not. I'm not sure if that was the intent, but the whole concept of "Let's see how far we've come" is both simple and complex, and very worthy of a matchbox twenty song in that it makes you think.
I highly doubt this was thrown together in 5 minutes.

I was about to ask that, and Rob Thomas seems like just the kind of heartbleeder who would be a democrat.

Well, art is a liberal idea anyway so it makes sense that most artists are left-leaning.

No way is Jon Bon Jovi a Republican. He campaigned for Kerry in this last election. My friend and I drove to a working class part of Ohio for a Kerry rally and waited for hours in the beautiful Fall twilight just because JBJ was going to perform a few songs. It was actually quite an eye opening experience to talk to other Ohio Dems and get their perspective on things during the long wait. And yes, Rob is a Democrat, but aren't most enlightened people?

I heard "When I'm Gone" was a pro-war song.

Rob and Paul were at the HOB (Chicago) this morning for a short acoustic show for the Mix (WTMX). They also did some interviews and they sang Disease, 3AM, If You're Gone, HFWC and I'm pretty sure I missed a few. Sounded great! I'm not sure if they would post the entire show but here's the link for the station: www.wtmx.comBut anyway, they played HFWC a whole lot to promote the event.

I listening to them live right now on another radio station's stream. The DJ mentioned that HFWC was played a ton on Monday Night Football this week. And Rob sounds GREAT! What a beautiful voice, so unique and not studio generated. Here's the link. Maybe they'll put up a podcast: ks95.com/

So, Rob & Paul have been on a radio station blitz this past week. In several interviews they've teased the listeners with how excited they are about the warm-up performer they'll take out on tour with them next year. Rob and Paul both seem really excited by this person: "So huge. Will blow your mind!" is how one of them described her. So, who do you think?? I immediately thought of Kelly Clarkson, but can't imagine Paul being too thrilled by her. He's kind of alternative leaning in his taste of music and probably not an AI fan. But Clive Davis and Rob have a connection, so maybe Clive is playing matchmaker. But then I wondered about Alicia Keys. But she doesn't seem like a good fit with MB20. Any ideas? Heard any rumors?

I don't think "huge" necessarily has to mean the artist is very popular commerically right now, but that they happen to believe she is "hugely" talented (though, because their new songs are more pop-oriented than before, there's probably reason to believe this artist is one who has enjoyed some level of Mainstream Top 40 success very recently.) Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being Colbie Caillat, given her explosion of popularity within the past several months thanks to a strong Internet promotional push similar to that of The Fray. I think it could also very well be someone like Belinda Carlisle; not nearly as commerically successful but nonetheless generating much acclaim and cult support. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Sincerely, Noah Eaton Unless you're referring to Brandi Carlile, I would argue that Belinda Carlisle has garnered more commercial success over 20-plus years than Colbie Caillat has with one record. Difficult comparison to make, however. I might also throw in Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, or Sheryl Crow into the guessing mix...although I'm not certain what their respective tour schedules look like at this point.

What about Annie Lennox? She's got a new album out. I was just struck at how excited the guys sounded about the artist. "Blow your mind" and Colbie Callait don't seem to go together in my mind. But Rob has mentioned how much he likes the Brandi Carlile CD. Oh, and they mentioned there may be two warm-up bands. Here's this week's album chart. Exile on Mainstream falls from #3 to #10. Selling approx. 190k copies to date. www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi

If it's a guy or a band, I might have some guesses just going by the people Rob has been talking about/praising lately but a female... Not so sure... Colbie was a part of the Mixfest at Boston last month where the guys were the headliners but then again, that's just a radio concert. So, I dunno, lol.

Any chance this will reach #2?
EOM is #4 on billboard with only a 45% dip from last week, 72,000.
2 week total of 203,000

Just a gut feeling here but I'm leaning towards a co-headlining tour between Alicia Keys and MB20? I think Alicia wants to diversify her music outside just the R&B genre. This would be a great opportunity for her and for MB20. If tickets are going on sale in November (read that somewhere), then the tour announcement shouldn't be more than a few weeks away.

I'd love to see Alicia Keys, but can't imagine HER fans being too happy about it. Maybe Rob & Alicia will duet again. That would be cool. She's sooooo talented!
The bullet on Hot AC is up to +193, so #2 is definitely a possibility. Yay! This song has legs!
I don't understand how this is doing better than "Over You" right now.
Both are great songs so I'm not surprised that HFWC is doing well. RCA is just doing a horrible job (like always, lol) making the decisions and promos for Over You (like releasing the video, timing, etc.). Anyway, did anyone see yet the article on People about Rob and Marisol? It was so sweet and nice... The pics were CUTE! They make such a great un-Hollywood like couple.

I don't understand how this is doing better than "Over You" right now. 1st single by a core artist verus 3rd single by a (probable) core artist. I think HFWC has grown on people. Repeated listenings will do that for any song. Plus, as has been mentioned here, Rob and Paul for the past two weeks and again this coming week have been traveling around the country doing in-station radio concerts and a few larger ones. They are reconnecting with influential stations. Smart move on their part. I thought this song was dead in the water a few weeks ago. I'm glad that I was wrong. Top 20 now on Pop, too. On the downside, they've been dropped by a Charlotte HotAC station. Rob and Paul had to cancel their appearance that left fans waiting. Two sides to the story but end result....station dropped all Rob and MB20 songs from their playlist. Too bad that had to happen.

I don't understand how this is doing better than "Over You" right now. It's really not though if you combine it with CHR - which I think is really important b/c lots of markets don't have HAC stations...overall "Over You" is in the Top 5 CHR-HAC Combo airplay and "How Far We've Come" is way behind it On unofficial CHR-HAC combo chart, "Over You" hit #2, "How Far We've Come" hit #9 and just dropped (unless it rebounds)

I'm thinking this will likely peak at #2 now, as I wasn't expecting a sudden second wind in spin increases as it is enjoying currently.
That's very encouraging for the promotion of "Exile On Mainstream" in general, as I think it'll set a comfortable stage for the promotion of their second single, which hasn't officially been announced yet but I'd imagine to be "These Hard Times".
I'm really thinking this track might still have a shot at making the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. I wasn't expecting such longevity for this track in terms of single sales, but now it has climbed back to #7 on iTunes, and most of the songs currently ranked above "How Far We've Come" on iTunes are tracks that are already ranked higher as it is on the Hot 100, where Britney Spears is likely to fall further on the next edition of the Hot 100 as "Gimme More" is beginning to lose airplay rapidly.
Whether it makes the Top Ten or not, I'm not sure, but it is certain to be bulleted again on the next chart and will likely climb again from its current #17 positioning, with Fergie ("Big Girls Don't Cry"), Timbaland ("The Way I Are"), Britney Spears, J. Holiday, Nickelback and Pink all on the decline, while fewer songs (Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss" in particular) are on the upswing, thus leaving some space to fill that matchbox twenty could very well do so by default.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton
