I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we're in for more Chad Kroeger on our radios. Because the double disc "The Essential Santana" did not suffice, The Ultimate Santana will be released in mid October. This is the first single. It pains me that a music legend would once again align himself with... him. www.santana.com is the source.

I'm not hating or anything but it's DEFINATELY Chad Kroeger overload. Especially now that they can play Nickelback every hour and now this and the other Santana song on alternate half-hour intervals.

Not to mention Daughtry in between. It will feel like you're listening to one continuous song all hour.

And Hinder. Although my station has been playing a lot less Hinder over the last few weeks. Better Than Me was grating into my nerves though...!

I couldn't agree more. I'm going to hold out listening to the song. Maybe I might be able to make it a few weeks before I actually hear Chad's voice again. And Carlos....why oh why team up with this guy again. Obviously, you went with the hottest guy on radio right now to get a hit after your last album didn't do all that great. What happened to the music? Extremely dissappoint in a legendary artist.

It's a lot better than the crap that was his recent singles. That's all I'll say.

Nickelback, Daughtry, Hinder, Creed on recurrents...and now this. Gotta love it!
Seeing this was great for me, especially since Nickelback's next album won't be out for a while. I'll give my opinion of this song once I hear it. This is awesome!!

I disagree with the Chad Kroeger burnout now that I've heard the song. Santana's superb guitar playing sounds nothing like that of Nickelback. I think this should go top 5 on Hot AC, at least. Chad Kroeger could be the new king of Hot AC soon, replacing my former favorite artist, Rob Thomas.

Chad Kroeger also sang lead on the CD version of Santana's "Why Don't You And I"...when I lived in North Carolina (when it came out) both WKZL and WNKS played the Chad Kroeger version of that song instead of the Alex Band version

LOL, not saying Nickelback's is bad. ;) Just saying, it means that it doesn't sound like everything else Chad sings on (take "Hero", for example).

It still has his vocals. That's what I mean when I say Chad Kroeger burnout and that's why I specifically said "Chad Kroeger burnout" and not "Nickelback burnout", which I am getting now anyway.

There hasn't been a Rob Thomas burnout on Hot AC between 1997-2007, so I can't see a Chad Kroeger burnout between 2005-2007 (from when Nickelback really began to dominate the chart).

Well, Rob doesn't keep releasing the same song over and over. Little Wonders hardly sounds like HFWC. Regardless of what you think of Nickleback or Rob, I don't think MB20 ever received this much radio play. They were never that huge on Pop radio to begin with. It is a little too much Chad!

With all fairness to Chad Kroeger, I think the only Nickelback songs that sound ridiculously similar are "If Everyone Cared" and "Savin' Me", and I can see why some people think "Rockstar" just sounds like a CD cut rather than a single (although I like it)
"Photograph" certainly didn't sound like anything previous, neither did "Someday" or "How You Remind Me"
Also, Rob Thomas has had some songs that sounded almost identical - they just weren't released from the same CD (I think "Disease" and "Smooth" even had some of the same lyrics "just forget about it??") - "If You're Gone" "Ever The Same" and "Little Wonders" all had the same sound to them although I love all of those songs...but I agree that overall Rob does vary up his sound a lot more than Chad Kroeger

MB20 also never had 5 major hits from one CD so there was a bit of a break between albums and again between their last record and Rob's solo one. The longest stretch of songs for them was from 'Lonely No More' until the present which has pretty much been one string of hits back to back with just alittle break. But none of Rob's songs were really massive and they didn't dominate multiple formats. Nickelback, on the other hand, have Hot AC, CHR/Pop and still are able to get hits on the rock formats. And it's been nearly two years straight, not to mention there wasn't a long between between their current record and the last one, especially with 'Why Don't You And I' in there to minimize it even more.

Well, I like this... I've always liked anything that Santana puts out and Chad's vocals doesn't bother me here at all.

If everybody hated it, all the payola in the world wouldn't get it there. If radio played a song that people hated, ratings would go down and they'd have nobody to listen. Either way, the demographics that Nickelback are played to on the radio obviously like them for the most part. But most people here don't like them as much or are burnt out on them because most of us listen to music more than the average radio listener. And following the charts also helps us put into perspective just how much they are played so we know more than the average radio listener as well.

All that I am saying is Santana usually goes top 5 and top 3 with songs featuring artists. Now he's featuring the man who's band just had arguablly the biggest strand of hits in Hot AC history, with only Kelly Clarkson in the discussion.
So when this is hitting the top 5, you'll see what I mean.

Just goes to show how a little bit of name recognition goes a long way. If Santana released these songs with a studio musician or a relative no-namer on lead vocals, as the band did back in its heyday, this thread wouldn't exist. Apparently Chad penned the song, so unfortunately Carlos isn't even writing these hits.
And for those of you who loved The Game of Love, listen for a remixed version of the song on the forthcoming compilation with Tina Turner on vocals!

^This song doesn't go for adds until later this month and already the discussion is lively. But it wouldn't be a proper thread without...
HOT BENNY MARDONES REMAKE!

And it'll probably be top 40 by 9/17, the adds date.

This is going top 5 regardless if people like it or not. ??? Sorry this doesn't make sense to me - maybe it'll get a lot of adds at first, but if it doesn't get good callout, stations back off of it (like CHR is doin with "How Far We've Come")

I think it's a sure-shot that most of the casual Hot AC listeners will like this song. I meant critics-wise, who will pan this song just like anything with the name "Kroeger" in it.
