Just heard this for the first time (on radio) on my Hot AC station (The Mix, Chicago). Just okay... :)

It's top 40. :)

Haven't heard it yet, but I hope I like it. I think it will do well because no other key solo males are releaseing songs for this fall, so realistically this could become a top 10 sleeper hit.

This one is really a bore! I mean, "You're Beautiful" wasn't super exciting, but at least it was honest sounding, which was rather rare. But "1973" is just formulatic, and snoozeworthy!

This is top 30 now, with a bullet of over 200.

I think Daughtry and possibly Maroon 5 will leap-frog this soon though.

In this song, he sounds like Davey Jones (of the Monkees). Oooooh Marcia, Davey Jones is back! Are you going to get him to perform at your prom? :) ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif)

This is a weird song for a "comeback" so to speak. It's pretty good, but it seems like it would have been a better second single off an album. But it's doing well so that's all that counts.

I have a feeling this song won't crack the top 20 :(

It debuted at #34 on Rick Dees and #35 on AT40 this week.

I have a feeling this song won't crack the top 20 :( Me too... I guess that's expected, this is nothing compared to You're Beautiful IMO.

This song reminds me of something you would hear in a coffee shop. I actually think this song is a bit of an improvement over Blunt's last album, which was sooooo slow. But I really don't see this being a come back song, maybe the 2nd single.

I really like this song, I'm surprised that it's not doing a lot better on Hot AC.
It has now re-entered the top 20.

This seems really weak to me - if anyone else sung it, I doubt it'd be doin much of anything except on Triple A
Other problem..."1979" by Smashing Pumpkins, "1985" by Bowling For Soup, and "1999" by Prince (which is pretty big in recurrent play) - don't think HAC can keep playin new songs with years as the title (the novelty has worn off IMO)

Remarkable. This is Top 10 at Triple A, and I didn't think the format touched his last album. Does anyone know if anything from BtB charted there?

Seems like Triple A and Hot AC are tryin to avoid each other's songs (at least in the past 5 years or so)...I think a lot of Triple A listeners don't want to hear songs that are overplayed on CHR and Hot AC like "You're Beautiful" cause they want an "alternative" to regular AC/Hot AC programming

I think "1985" kinda closed the door for those songs for a while. Back in fall 2004 when I first heard that song, I thought it was awesome, but then I found out about those other older songs. Also high on recurrent rotation- "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams.

How can someone born in 1974 write a song about 1973? ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif)

Should we be limited in our artistry by our own personal experiences? That would wipe out a large category of literary devices (metaphor, etc.) and greatly deplete the genre of fiction.

And even then it could be personal. We are living beings for up to 10 months before we're "born".

Wow didn't mean to spark big debate...but he says in the song somethin like "I remember dancin with you at a club in 1973" (prob. massacred those lyrics but somethin like that) - seems weird to me to write a song that sounds like a personal experience that turns out not to be a personal experience... I like the reincarnated idea better ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif)

It's just a song, guys. Most people listening wouldn't even know (or care) that he wasn't born until 1974, hahah.

All I know is that it's been keeping 'Hollywood' out of the top 20.
Maybe tomorrow.

A dream? A wish? Spoken from someone else's perspective? Based on a book, movie, story of some kind? Maybe 1973 is a metaphor for something other than a year like a location or something.
