Gwen is now #4 on Hot AC..it's looking like she WILL get to #1.
This is going to be interesting because a lot of times there aren't much switching around of the #1 song on Hot AC, which we may see over the next several weeks.

A new peak of #7 on Hot AC, with a +163 bullet.

No problem, if there is anything we know about Rob Thomas its that he has amazing staying power. Even if he's just in the top five for a while, this song will be around for a long time. Hell, AC has barely begun to play it.

It'll probably only peak at 3 or 4 which is still very good.

It'll probably only peak at 3 or 4 which is still very good. Nickelback's bullet is almost gone, and Nelly Furtado won't have be up in plays for long. So I say AT LEAST #3 but I'm thinlking top 2

I would love to see LW get higher than 5 but I don't know if it will happen. There are several HotAC stations that are so pop leaning that they haven't added this yet or have it in low rotation. Plus, Carrie and Maroon5 will catch up with him soon. And we all know that Kellie Clarkson's new song will fly up the chart. I look for her to beat M5's big bullet.
I love this song and think it deserves #1 but...

If Maroon 5 rewens the chances for this to get to #1, I'm fine with it because Maroon 5 is a true core artist on Hot AC (same with Nickelback) and also Kelly Clarkson or Carrie are fine with me. I just think Hot AC is wanting Matchbox Twenty back, and thier hit will soar to #1 whenever that day comes.

Gwen Stefani may not be a "core" Hot AC artist...but she is an OG at the format. She has had at least 6 songs, including No Doubt, chart well, and has been around on the chart pretty consistantly for over 10 years. I personally dont think that relative newbies like Kelly, Maroon 5, or Carrie, are more deserved or whatever of the Hot AC crown than Gwen Oh, and get ready, cause her next single "4 In the Morning" is going to be a Hot AC smash as well.

I just think Hot AC is wanting Matchbox Twenty back, and thier hit will soar to #1 whenever that day comes. I don't know if I necessarily think that is true. I think there are several stations on HotAC that just aren't Rob or MB20 friendly. I think Rob will be able to make top 10 on his next album but I don't know beyond that. It's been a great run though. I don't think it's over. I just think top 3 may be hard to obtain now. Oh well, it was a good format for about 10 years. My unmonitored HotAC sounds just like a pop station now. They got a new PD a few months ago and the station has really, really gone downhill...Akon, Candyman, Girlfriend....Avril and Christina may have had some success at HotAC BUT these are not HotAC songs. Gwen, I used to like her. I do think her current song is nice. It's deserves some success at HotAC. It's deserves #1 as much as Carrie, M5, and Kellie and especially Nickleback. I've just lost a lot of respect for Gwen as an artist. No need to discuss why.

Do you think Nickelback is now the core atrist on this format?

Nickelback is so boring it stuns me that PD's are still playing their stuff at all. Still, I guess I'll take that compared to a lot of the other junk that's out there.
Don't think PD's are missing Matchbox 20 as long as Rob Thomas keeps putting out. Anything he does is golden and brings in listeners. But a new Matchbox record, if it ever happens, will certainly stir up a lot of excitement in radio land and that is something the stations love to see.

So do you think Nickelback is the core artist here now? Or is Rob still the man?

I'm not surprised that this is such a huge hit with HOt AC, but this song is just okay for me. I'm hoping for a catchier song though

I just got back from Nashville where I had the pleasure to see Rob's documentary about the recording of his first solo album. For all us music lovers (and some Rob fans in this post), it's a must see. It debuted in the Nashville film festival and will probably go to a few other festivals and then to DVD. It's got it all including behind the scenes coverage of marketing meetings at Atlantic on how they will try to seperate Rob from MB20. There's one scene where Rob is playing Lonely No More for the first time to three guys who have or are currently major label CEOs...Matt Serletic, Lyor Cohen, and Jason Flom. Music sessions with Wendy Melvin (guitarist for Prince), John Mayer, Robert Randolph, Jeff Trout (Sheryl Crow's guitarist), that Save the Music performance with Alicia Keys. Office meeting with Clive Davis, etc, etc.
I also went to a panel discussion the next day. The panel consists of Rob and three indie movie directors. Rob is really quite entertaining and a good speaker. He's funny as heck, too.

They both said that although they always liked his music the documentary really impressed them with how intelligent he is. One friend's words were that he had "integrity coming out his ass." And these are guys in the very industry that his documentary was supposedly lambasting. Do you know other film festivals where it will be shown?

Looks as if "Little Wonders" has stalled out on Hot AC, being that it's down 51 spins currently, and lost its bullet for 2 weeks now on R&R. :( ???
This is a shame. The song is too good to have already peaked without standing a chance of being #1 or #2.

I read that an hour concert of Rob will be on PBS Soundstage on 6/14 at 10:00 on most PBS stations. It was filmed on his solo tour at Red Rocks. Can't wait to see it.

If Rob released new solo material, as we just saw, it may miss the top 40.

I'm still wondering why "Little Wonders" is decreasing in spins on Hot AC. This is the 3rd week in row that it stalled at #6 on R&R with no bullet. I was certain this song would go top 3. It's yet another great solo accomplishment by a great artist!

I think the issue with this song stalling comes from the fact that the market is just oversaturated in Rob Thomas right now. I mean, I know, I know... his album only had 4 singles, with 2 being pretty damn huge ("Lonely," "Same").
But it's a similar case to BeyoncΓ©. It's just too much. Rob released his album back in 2005? Combine his sucess with matchbox twenty, and that's a LOT of Rob Thomas on HotAC radio.
I was talking to my MD today, and I think he said it best: "Rob Thomas may not release great songs, but he releases good songs that people will listen to for a while before getting sick of. But they will get sick of them."
On the latest music advisory panel we conducted here, "Little Wonders" had a surprisingly high burn rate, especially compared to tracks like Timbaland's "Give It To Me," which we've actually been playing longer. I guess in a way, the past 2 years have been one massive Rob Thomas song, and listeners may be beginning to tire.

I've been burning out on this one too even though I rarely listen to it. For some reason, it starts off making me think it's a U2 song and all of U2's recent singles have SUPER high and super fast burnout rates for me so that doesn't help Rob much. I think once I can get past that bit, by the chorus I'm fine.

It's up 1 notch on R&R, placing it officially in the top 5; but it lost its bullet several weeks ago. Down in spins (-12) once again this week. This is such a disappointment.
Although it's true that Hot AC is saturated with Rob Thomas, this song deserves to be at least top 3. It's certainly one of his best.

Because this song sounds so unique, I think Hot AC will hold on to it for a long time, even if it didn't peak as high as other Rob Thomas singles - I wish Rob/Matchbox 20 would start writing more "Active" songs (rather than just passive, reflective) with a new edge to them so they can get back on Top 40 radio - the last "edgy" song I remember hearing from Rob or Matchbox 20 was "Bent"

Thomas/Matchbox have released quite a few rockers. Hell, "Disease" was a great all-around rock song and broke into the Top 40 at #39 and peaked at #5. "Bright Lights" was also a real rocker - especially live. It peaked on the Top 40 at # 7. "This is How A Heartbreaks", a great rock song, peaked at #15. Matchbox (and Thomas) are putting out great "active/edgy" rock songs, Top 40 just increasingly barely plays them. I'm not sure, but I think "Crutch" and maybe "Feel" (you can't get much "edgier" than Feel, imo) from their respective albums were released to Alt-Rock radio and again --- hardly any airplay. But they'll play Three Doors Down and crap like Third Eye Blind or Vertical Horizon, bands that aren't any harder or more alternative than Matchbox. It's the stupid "we're too cool" factor that a lot of PD's have about Matchbox because of their huge level of success, not realizing that it's quality that counts, not perception.
It's extremely short-sighted for PD's to try to pigeon-hole Thomas and/or his band in a Hot AC/AC box and for Top 40 and rock radio to ignore them, yet they'll play every piece of same-old-crap that Nickleback and other bands put out over and over and over. It just boggles the brain.
I've often said they need to release a great new rock song under a new name and watch the radio lemmings wet themselves all over the place to play it and then freak out when they reveal it's really Matchbox 20.
