I've been thinking about this, and I'm predicting a long period of no solo males in the top 20 on Hot AC!!! Rob Thomas and Mat Kearney will both be out or to recurrent by mid-August. I thought "Beautiful Disaster" would be a top 10 hit on Hot AC, but it is now almost out of the top 40. Elliot Yamin might make the top 20, but with so many artsits that WILL make it, I think he'll miss the top 20.
In September-October, the top 20 will probably contain (about) 13 songs by bands and 7 by solo female artists. Would this be the first time ever there are no solo males in the top 20 of Hot AC (could happen in 3-5 weeks).
The other thing I've been thinking of is that P!nk currently has 2 hits in the top 20, as does Nickelback (with thiers in the top 10). By the fall, Daughtry (who has 2 now) will have 2 with 2 different hits ("Home and "Over You"), and you can also add Maroon 5 and Gwen Stefani to the list. If this does happen, which it very well could- would 5 "double acts" be a record on American Top 20?

James Blunt has a new single posted on the CHR/Pop board - haven't heard it yet - can't think of any other solo males that'll be Top 20 Hot AC offhand, unless someone new comes out (although IMO Daughtry is basically a solo male) - also still hoping more stations will pick up Emerson Hart (but prob. won't happen)
BTW, "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper - nice song of the day!! Prob. my favorite song from the 80s - and remake by Quietdrive doesn't even come close to original :)

I hope that song goes top 20. I think it deserves to go top 10, but Hot AC just will not let it go that far.

I hope that song goes top 20. I think it deserves to go top 10, but Hot AC just will not let it go that far. It's really slowing down, and the only major market Hot AC I can find that picked it up was WPTE/Norfolk - all the "Alice-type" stations in the West didn't even touch it - This song sounds a lot like "Take Me As I Am" - Tonic's single from 2003-2004? and that barely got any Hot AC airplay Still rootin for him, though :) IMO his best shot is on Triple A but songs that start in Triple A really have to hit the top 3 in AAA even to be considered for Hot AC It'd also really help if he had a video!!

WINC plays this a lot, and it gets very good reception on that station. Not sure how big thier audience is, though.

Anyhow, maybe it'll become an East Coast thang that'll spread Just wondering why KYSR/Los Angeles, KMXB/Las Vegas, KLCA/Reno etc. aren't playing it and they're about the most liberal Hot AC's in the country

I agree with you about WINC- they played "Hollywood" before almost anyone else and also played "Sober" by Kelly Clarkson basically RIGHT after it was release (I heard it like 1 day after it was so quickly released). And don't you think this appeals to more conservative Hot ACs? I hear Baltimore play "Undeniable", "Give it to Me", and "Cupid's Chokehold" all the time, so I figure a conservative Hot AC would love "If You're Gonna Leave" so they didn't have to play those songs with rap as much.

I think Mix 1065 Baltimore is doing the opposite - covering pop/rhythmic as best as they can cause there's no CHR in their market - they prob. get higher ratings playing Cupid's Chokehold and Give It To Me b/c no one else in the market is playin them at all - it's much "safer" to play rhythmic-leaning songs that are proven hits than it is to play "If You're Gonna Leave" (sorry - IF YOU HAVE NO CHR/POP IN YOUR MARKET, I mean)
Mix 1073 Washington should be able to add Emerson Hart, though, cause if people in Wash DC wanna hear Give It To Me they'll listen to Hot 99.5 (I think) - unless E. H. is just not getting strong enough response - same with WPLJ, Mix 101.9 Chicago, all the Texas "Mix" stations (Dallas, Houston, Austin), and def. all those West Coast Alice-type stations

Yeah, Hot 99.5 plays Timbaland all the time.
And if Emerson Hart does indeed miss the top 20, would this be the first time ever there are no solo males in the top 20?

I hear that Gavin DeGraw will release new music this fall. If it's good, I could see it doing great here.

"I Don't Want to Be" wasn't all that great IMO, but did very well at both Hot AC & CHR. His follow-up, "Chariot" was a much better song, and charted slightly higher on Hot AC than "I Don't Want to Be". But of the 2 songs, guess which one most Hot AC stations spin the most as a recurrent? Yep - "I Don't Want to Be". >:(

But they played "Chariot" for a while then stopped playing it after it died down on the chart. Then about a year ago when they got a new PD they played it almost every hour for a while yet I still haven't heard "Chariot" since it first came out. It's weird how radio works.

LOL, I learned of this from a commercial that was aired about 7 times during American Top 20 yesterday morning.

I never hear 'I Don't Want To Be'. Actually, I don't even think C100 played it at all. But they played tons of 'Chariot'. I still hear it sometimes.

When it comes to Gavin DeGraw, my favorite was "Follow Through".
