I'm happy he's Top 40 at Hot AC but that's so minor. He had a brilliant grassroots marketing campaign that led up to his album release in the UK last year. He toured relentlessly and made a point of staying to talk to each and every fan (I was one of them!). He had a much bigger presence on social media. Most importantly, his UK label exactly where to position him and what audience to target.
It's just not the same in the US. For one thing, he doesn't seem as committed to the whole touring thing here. Secondly, his label is targeting the wrong audience. They should be going after the college crowd.

Finally looked up what this song is about (girl addicted to Class A Drugs), now that I understand it I absolutely love it - really hope it climbs slowly to Top 10

He doesn't sound like that at all to me. If I'd compare him to anybody it would be Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson. I've seen Ed live and his fans aren't the Sufjan/Bon Iver crowd at all. I agree with the Jason Mraz comparison. Not sure that this was the best choice for US radio. I get that it was huge in the UK, but I couldn't see it being a hit over here. I think they should go with "Lego House" or "Drunk" next.

This is rising way too slowly here and I stay true to my original stance: the reason why is that his US label is positioning him so wrongly.

I'm loving this more and more. I'm glad it's moving up the chart.

I feel like he could be the next John Mayer - I remember No Such Thing taking forever to climb the charts at first, so I hope this might be the same type of situation

They need to put this on TV somewhere. It could be big.

Yeah, some kind of TV drama about the life of a drug addict I think what's holding this back is the fact that it's so hard to tell what he's singing about Also think they need to send this for Alternative adds Then, in a month or so, remix it and send it to CHR

I find this dull, but "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" is great.

Falling in love with this all over again, a good 15 months after the first time.
Granted his excellent first week sales, hopefully this begins to break some ice at radio now.

Billboard is saying he will have a Top 5 debut for his album, selling around 45-50K the 1st week

So I've heard little bits of this on the radio, but never figured out it was this song. I always heard "eighteen" not "a team" lol Anyways, it's an ok song. Kinda boring, imo.

It looks like this will have to settle for a #11 peak at Hot AC.

It looks like this will have to settle for a #11 peak at Hot AC. This has spent a long time on the chart though, so he will probably finish relatively high on the year-end chart.

OMG. This is the song that just will not die! Never mind how it's doing on the chart, where much the same can be said, but on my station, it's had a habit of being played quite a bit for a couple of weeks, then it disappears for a couple. Then it comes back for a couple more...then it disappears again.
UGH!! Make up your minds, people!

(First time posting in the HAC forum, here goes...)
The longevity of this song on this format is insane. Talk about taking a while to catch on. Is today's AI gain of 0.663 the biggest it's had on it daily chart run?

Now hopefully it will hold. Although with a bullet like that it's looking promising.
