I wish HOT AC could be its own forum and AAA it's own. It could be confusing ot some especially the Crystal Bowersox updates. It is just an idea Moderator :)

I can see the point, although neither format seems to get all that much in the way of posts. It seems like if there were separate forums, they might end up both being fairly inactive.

Honestly, in 2011, I think CHR and Hot AC should be grouped together, AAA and Alternative grouped together, and then Active Rock have its own forum - the thing is though, two years from now things could "shift" again, so I'm sure it wouldn't make sense to "shake up" Pulse like that lol

Hot AC if had more stations like a chr panel would and if every city had a alternative choice i think hot ac is the new top 40 pop or soon will be, and chr is to me top 40 for teens, not that it's just for teens like when hot ac is called adult top 40 its not just for adults lol and anyway at 18 your an adult anyway :) Anywho i'm rambling, but i agree with you that things are changing too much right now to change anything after i seen your post :) |

I kind of like the two formats grouped together for the following two reasons:
1) Neither is credible enough to stand on their own.
2) There is a LOT of crossover between the two charts. Yes, they don't coincide entirely, but does it really bother you to see Crystal Bowersox if you don't follow AAA, or Lady Gaga if you don't follow HAC?

Hot AC doesn't seem like a distinctive format anymore. It's a middle ground between AC and CHR, with some leaning more towards the former and others more towards the latter. There's also Hot AC-leaning AC stations, and Hot AC-leaning CHR stations. However, Hot AC definitely is distinct from AAA - they may share a handful of core artists, but AAA leans towards alternative/indie rock, while HAC these days leans more towards what Radio-Info calls "turbo pop". I think Hot AC can still sustain its own board, in spite of the blurred lines. But AAA should be merged into the rock forum, if anything. After all, Mediabase counts AAA spins towards its overall Rock chart. And some discussion of AAA does occasionally come up in the rock board. Yes, they don't coincide entirely, but does it really bother you to see Crystal Bowersox if you don't follow AAA, or Lady Gaga if you don't follow HAC? It doesn't bother me per se, but it does confuse me sometimes. Obviously I'm going to know that Lady Gaga is not being played on AAA, but I might see a thread for an alternative song I like and get excited over it crossing over to HAC, only to realize we're talking about its progress on AAA. |

Just think Hot AC can stand on its own cuz adult ac does, and AAA and Alternative, AC & Hot Ac should be linked, I think CHR Pop & Rhytm. should be as well. Lady Gaga & Katy Perry are core HOT AC artists too, only a few AAA artists chart on HOT AC and are core here. Seriously i think i'm done here, no more posts, this forum is drama and you can't write anything without being attacked, misunderstood or misquoted. I wouldn't argue with blending AAA with the Alternative forums, but I feel like some of the Alt posters might not agree, especially since a lot of the topics revolve around songs that are also Rock and Active Rock hits. The lighter AAA songs might seem too light for them? But, I mean, you have Adele on Alternative now and she's #1 Triple A. Can't get much lighter than that. What qualifies for Triple A now would have been alternative 15 years ago (sara bareilles charting on triple A now VS. sarah mclachlan and tori amos on alternative in the mid 90s).
But strongly disagree about AC and Hot AC being lumped together. Although, AC has been moving onward from the lighter sounds that made up its chart at the turn of the century so maybe it's something that could be re-evaluated?

I've said this before, but Hot AC is just watered down CHR these days. AAA is closest to what it used to be.
Truthfully, the problem with all of this is that this forum is categorized by radio formats. Most of the posters here are simple music lovers. I like a variety of things. I float through here and Alternative. I don't even listen to the radio that much anymore. I check the charts occasionally to say how songs I like are doing, but I just use the formats to guide my quest for new stuff. I would be willing to bet the vast majority of Pulse posters don't work in radio. It might work better if the forums were categorized by genres. Still, it's a touchy subject. I believe it's best left alone.

I'm like you too. I don't listen to much radio (though that's changing a bit since my iPod car player broke and I'm too cheap to buy another atm) and the bands I like always chart in Hot AC or Active. If something sounds interesting through leafing through discussions, I check it out.

I'll admit that of the radio I listen to, it's mostly AAA, although I tune in the HAC version of the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40.
Roughly 95% of my posts are in this format - once in a blue moon I'll wander into CHR, but that format is too dominated by people obsessed by certain artists (although to be truthful, this happens to a lighter extent here - ahem, Lee DeWyze, ahem).
I've stated it before, but I think as Hot AC's listeners age, AAA has a lot more to offer than AC. One might say the same for aging Alternative and Rock listeners.

The rock forum already seems divided between those with active- and indie-leaning tastes, and occasionally you'll see people from one camp bashing the other camp's music. Plus, as Max noted, there aren't a whole lot of people who follow AAA here, and at least some of the few AAA followers also post in the rock forums. A few people of the rock posters (not me) have also stated that they wouldn't really mind hearing rock stations playing more Hot AC-leaning artists, and threads will often be created for songs that end up doing much better on AAA than Alternative or Active. So the bottom line is, I don't think bunching AAA in with Alternative and Active would change a whole lot. |
