...you were saying? -- 43 CHRISTINA AGUILERA Your Body 742 0 742 9.700 +742 Spins +742 Bullet +9.700 Audience Factoring in the rest of the formats it got play on, I'd wager this safely got DOUBLE Mariah's total airplay from its first day alone. ;) LMAO!!! Wait, so you were referring to Triumphant? Of course, she was going to do better. I thought you were talking about We Belong Together. Carrie on. And MC never had one of those radio deals.

What else do you think people would be referring to?

What else do you think people would be referring to? Read what I said: We Belong Together. The person who originally brought up Mariah did not mention Triumphant. Why would Xtina not do better than Mariah's Triumphant? The CC deal alone will guarantee better airplay from the getgo.

Eons would mean, like, 15-20 years or so ago. Madonna had a pretty decent U.S. radio hit in 2008 (albeit with Justin Timberlake on board) and a mediocre one in 2005 (but that single fared pretty well, sales-wise). I doubt a label would have the money/think it's worth the money to pay for a Clear Channel deal for a single by an artist who hasn't had a hit in 15-20 years.

And the idea of YB's first day singlehandedly toppling WBT is SO ludicrous and outside the realm of possibility that any logical person would immediately disregard the notion. Triumphant on the other hand (being Mariah's ACTIVE single) would be the logical assumption to base the question on. Even then it's just a factual observation of the numbers. So Christina's first-day audience with YB dwarfed Mariah's 7-day running total for 'Triumphant'. That's a statistic that can actually be measured. I'M not the one putting the stan-coloured glasses on, screaming about 'OH X HAD SO-AND-SO or Y IS MORE RELEVANT BECAUSE BLAHBLAHBLAH...' Somebody posed a question. An answer was given. Put the saddle down, there will be no high-horse riding today.

The PDs in my area have been receiving mostly positive feedback during the CC deal. I think unlike a few of the more recent deals (You Da One, Give Me All Your Luvin'); it should be a top 5 pop hit.

That's all. No need for your "you were saying" comment.

I like the demo MUCH, MUCH better. The final edit is so slow and draggy. I think they took something away during the verses, a beat or something. I wish she would have said TOUCH your body. Funny, the final edit actually sounds like the demo.

742 spins is a good start, but I was expecting over 1,000 like most of the songs with CC deals.

Well you gotta think why they felt the need to pay for play. They didn't have faith in it achieving this on it's own.
Which is a cop-out.

For what it's worth, I read the post that started this quickly and understood it as 'I wonder if this song will break Mariah's AI record in one day', so I get where you're coming from. I thought it was meant to be facetious. But whatever, literally the least important thing in the world...

It was only a one day deal and tons of other artists have done it. For Christina, I'm sure it was to get radio stations to actually want to play her music again after the Bionic era and get the song out there to the general public. And the reception overall has been very positive so far so mission accomplished!

This might be a stupid question, but when was the last time a major artist released a 'comeback' single that didn't get a radio deal?

This is a catchy track. I'm interested to see how it fares after the last album's singles performances.

I can find no mention of any deal with Pink's 'Blow Me (One Last Kiss)', unless I didn't go far enough into the thread.

I put comeback in quote marks because I meant the loosest possible definition - basically first single from a new album. Pink fits. As far as "Hold It Against Me", I'm pretty sure the first single to get one of these deals was "You Da One". (People speculated "Hold It Against Me" and "Born This Way" had them but there's never been any proof and it seems odd that they'd have them then there'd be nine months without and suddenly they'd become common.) Since then it feels like they've got so regular that I'm having to ask who hasn't had one. Something I find interesting though is that the first two singles I remember having them were "You Da One" and "Give Me All Your Luvin'"... it seems odd that they caught on given how both of those ended up performing.
...None of that was really to do with "Your Body", just getting some thoughts on the deals out there. lol

No, it blew up all on its own :) Edit: Shears, 'Born This Way' had a deal, at least for the first day it was played at the top of every hour on many different radio stations; I remember hearing it several times that day, at the top of every hour, on Z100 :)

Being played at the top of every hour =! a radio deal. A radio deal would have to [legally] have the airplay announced as such. [aka the whole "brought to you by Def Jam records" or something]
For instance, You Da One had a radio deal with that type of announcement on the top of every hour for a day, whereas Part of Me just got played at the top of every hour.

I don't like this very much... at all. That said, it has a decent chance of going top ten, even if I don't think it will smash. Whatever happens though, her career will be just fine. lol

Right, and your first paragraph explains why these deals walk the fine line of payola. As long as listeners are made aware that the play is paid for by the label (and of course they say that in the vaguest way possible) it's perfectly legal.
