Christina fans keep trying thinking she is in the league of other pop divas, e.g. Britney, Ke$ha, Katy, Rihanna, or Gaga. She is at the bottom of the list, hate to say, so her sales positions are to be expected. Britney certainly don't belong in that group. Did her last album even go platinum without shipments? |

Oh dear. #34??? Low airplay is no excuse for this, and it's smashing in airplay anyway. I can't think of any recent Top 10 song to go Top 5 on iTunes, plummet, then do significantly better once airplay picked up. Even with "low" airplay it should be top 15. or atleast 20.

In this era where streaming can make or break your chart position, I think the low iTunes position could potentially be a GOOD thing. We've seen in the past how songs peaked lower than expected/desired because there was a disconnect between airplay and sales (sales peak while airplay is still relatively low, for example). I don't know if this is available for streaming, but it would be best for this song if the sales don't kick in until airplay is high and it's doing reasonably well on streaming. To have it 'smashing' on iTunes now would hurt it in the long run, as sales might be on the way down by the time airplay is up, and throw streaming into the mix and it could get very messy.  |

I did expect this to be doing slightly better than it is right now on iTunes, but I still don't think this is worrying yet considering it would be #20-#30 if it wasn't for the crazy amount of new releases that have been coming out all at once (Ke$ha, Rihanna, Taylor, Enrique, Mumford & Sons). Christina is clearly going to take a backseat to all those artists as she is just coming back into the public's eye with a hit after the Bionic era. Now if it falls under #40, then I'd worry.

People will never grow tired of attempting to deny Spears credit where credit is due. FF spawned a hot 100 #1 (HIAM), and three pop top 3's (HIAM #3, TTWE #3, IWG #1). Plus, the album sold decently compared to the others in that group. The iTunes performance for this is really bad so far. I don't personally think it's looking good. Like a poster above said, when is the last time a song went top 5 on iTunes, plummeted soon after, but went on to be a hit? I think the song is good material that has real potential with pop radio, but will the general public click "buy?" I'm not thinking so. |
