I like the album! What in the hell was Timbaland channeling in those two songs. Holy f**k. What I really enjoy overall, us the variation in the album. JRFM should've done better. RCA sucks really bad. Also, she cussing like a mutha on here, and I'm here for it.

My ranking of her albums: 1. Miss Thang (still can't believe her best album is her debut LOL) 2. Code Red 3. New Life 4. Still Standing 5. The Boy Is Mine 6. The Makings Of Me I don't remember After The Storm but yeah...this album is very good after all! Good job Mo! I Know is a masterpiece. By the way, it's OK, y'all. She was clearly high when she allowed Timbaland to step behind the boards and lend "vocals" to this album. He has been taking cues from Pharrell, who, by the way, cannot sing either for shit but damn if Timbaland doesn't make Pharrell sound like Stevie Wonder by comparison.  Oddly enough, he's not enough to make me hate the songs in which he appears but they are not my faves by any means. Production-wise though, they are pretty dope. At the end of the day, I am missing an organic, take me to church ballad like "Cry", "Time To Move On", and "Everything to Me." Anchor is the plastic version of that style, much like Mirror was, and also, Anchor takes me the most back to The Boy Is Mine album *, but yeah, I do appreciate her variety here, for sure. Also, A+ on the production. My song ranking: 1. Ocean Of Tears 2. Just Right For Me 3. Alone In Your Heart 4. I Know 5. Call My Name 6. Deep 7. Hustler's Ambition 8. Suga (this trumps Code Red for the ending ALONE) 9. Code Red 10. I Miss Music 11. Saints & Sinners (I wanted to like this more and I really respect the intent behind it but something about it bugs me...that said, I do really like 1-11; this just falls outside of the top 10; something about the earnestness of I Miss Music makes me wanna rank it above this even if this has a much better vocal) 12. All Men Lie 13. Love Just Ain't Enough * OK FUCK...Monica...this song hits all my spots simultaneously. I fucking LOVE this song and it should be released as a crossover to POP. It's so appropriate and so...now. Honestly, I won't even put it with the rest of the album. Sticks out like a sore thumb but it's what I wish all of the ballads on The Boy Is Mine tried to be. |

U do realize that out of the 4 performances you posted, 2 of them were more than 15 years old? That only further validates my point that she hasn't been popping vocally in ages and that Celebration of Gospel performance was a pitchy mess. Not a good reference video at all in your favor. The "Everything 2 me" performance was a good effort, but she was clearly strained and pitchy on the higher parts (because she has no range) and the Whitney Tribute was a awesome effort for her. Still pitchy (totally flat when she climaxed at the beginning of "when troubles rise" into the big belt), but the emotion was perfect for the occasion. Easily her best vocal since the performance of "Home" from 15 years ago. So yeah....maybe vocal lessons would help? some singers need help transitioning from child singer to adult. I feel she could be much better if she practiced and had better technique. |

A critique isn't hate dear. Monica has a facebook page thats perfect for love and adoration, but this is a forum for all types of opinions. For the record, I purchased her album. I'm sure not everyone in this thread can say the same. I'm just giving my opinions on her like I do any other artist I'm interested in. I have always liked Monica, but that doesn't mean I'm oblivious to the obvious.

That is from HHD, she always does more than what they predict..so im expecting 40 45k...as far as singles go..alone in your heart, then call my name for summer, and last i know/or ocean of tears for next fall/winter
