- Kelly collects another Top40/Top30 hit with "Catch My Breath" and it outpeaked "Dark Side" yay! (SMH @ Billboard's typo but I guess I shouldn't be surprised ).
- "Thirft Shop"

"AIWFCIY" likely won't peak as high next year because Christmas was the last day of the airplay week this year. That is its best shot. This is very true. I see it always getting in the 25-35 range every year except on years when Christmas in on a Tuesday, in which case, then it could get as high as 15-25.

Island/Sony/whoever should have had that fan uploaded video removed for copyright violation. It was the most viewed version of the song, and it took away from the Vevo plays. It could have been the difference between #21 and Top 20.

Well at least hitseeker fixed his typo. Billboard never fixes its mistakes (and they're supposed to be a professional site, so I would hold them to a stricter standard than someone posting on a message board). "Catchy My Breath" inspired a hilarious post from Au$tin though so I'm not going to complain this time.
I forget sometimes that we are dealing with two labels when it comes to AIWFCIY. That would explain why the fan video wasn't taken down - Sony isn't likely to care about a new peak for an artist no longer on its roster, and Island likely doesn't have enough financial incentive to have the video taken down since the sales would mostly go to the original version rather than the Extra Festive mix on MCIIY. So it would have been up to Mariah to push for it, and at this point she is probably too busy stacking those royalty checks from all the airplay and covers to be concerned. Now if she thought it had a chance at all of going #1 she might have felt it to be a more urgent matter.

Either way people are watching and a couple of spots up or down wont mean much in the grand scheme of things.

And you were complaining about Billboard having a typo so being hypocritical. There's a huge difference between a typo in a forum post and one in an article on a major professional website

Why would the song do better each year? Is its annual pattern that way? Its airplay pretty much always peaks at 60+ million impressions (Mediabase) and thus around #20 on Hot 100 Airplay/Radio Songs. Its downloads position is more inconsistent, but it looks like that also usually peaks around #20. Both peaks would be affected by where Christmas falls in the chart week, though.

Don't most songs have fan videos? Then every fan video should be taken down, dangit!

Don't most songs have fan videos? Then every fan video should be taken down, dangit! The labels do generally try, but more pop up right after they take them down. It depends on how aggressive the label is. In this case though, the video with the most views was an unofficial upload by a fan, not the official version.

I had seen "Skyfall" on the Singles Sales chart, but wasn't sure if it was a CD single or digital two-track or maxi. I saw it at Barnes & Noble the other day. In hindsight, its almost 32K scanned through 12/9 should have been a clue. :) I imagine One Direction's "Live While You're Young" also was issued on CD? I think "Call Me Maybe" was, too?

Don't most songs have fan videos? Then every fan video should be taken down, dangit! It was the official video, just posted by a fan. And when you search youtube for the song, that was the version that showed first. It was getting more than twice the views as the VEVO version that counts toward the Hot 100.

So "Home" has now sold over 3 million units. Will it pass "Stronger" to become the the biggest-selling Idol release ever?

With the freeze over, it's gaining like crazy on AC and is still rising on POP. Not to mention it has great airplay during the week of gift cards, so could easily sell another 200k+ in next weeks chart and even without it, it was still selling close to or over 100k/wk. I think it'll pass Kelly quite easily.
