Yassss "Little Talks" continuing its domination, moving 38-37, making its chart run thus far a nice 40-39-38-37. At that rate it should be #1 in mid-October. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, narrowly misses what would have been the rare feat of starting and ending the countdown, if "We Are Never..." had hung on at #40. Seeing as how "I Knew..." continues to hold a huge lead at Mediabase, hitting the record-setting 16K spin mark this week, she'll probably be on top for a while (likely at least a month.) Cool to see Mumford & Sons finally on AT40 (almost). I don't think they've ever put the 2 for 1 that low (after #28); usually it's been in or close to the top 10. I'm guessing the numbers in parenthesis after the titles are the songs' peak positions thus far.

Agreed! Good to hear "Runaway Love" and "Price Tag." Also, Taylor Swift becomes the 1st country act to score three #1 songs on this countdown (previously, she was tied with Kenny Rogers).

2 of those are pure pop songs and 1 (not sure which one it was) probably had a pop mix, right? What were Kenny's hits like? Pure country?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this, but back then, one did not need to "remix" country songs prior to crossing over. Actually, remixing in general was in its infancy back in the 80s. That said, Lionel Richie did write and produce his biggest hit "Lady", and produce his subsequent album Share Your Love. And Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees produced 1983's Eyes That See in the Dark (the album that gave us "Islands in the Stream" - actually, all three Bee Gees wrote that song as well as most of the others on that album). So yes, there was a Pop edge to several of his hits already - but, not for all of them.

I hope it's something that stays. It's one of the few genres that I like that has never seen a surge in popularity at pop radio in the nearly 20 years I've been a music fan.

2 of those are pure pop songs and 1 (not sure which one it was) probably had a pop mix, right? What were Kenny's hits like? Pure country? Taylor began as a country-oriented artist, and still has a fanbase at that format, so Ryan's stat is, I guess, technically correct. But of her 3 chart toppers (and nearly 4; "We Are Never..." peaked at #2), only "Love Story" sounded remotely country in the versions played by pop radio IMO. (And relating to the mention of Kenny Rogers, most of his 1970s and 80s pop crossover hits didn't sound very country either, except for his vocal qualities.) New AT40 listeners who might not be familiar with Taylor's earlier material may have been surprised by that categorization.

Nice to see a bit more movement this week. So far we've had 15 new songs this year, and 7 of them came in the first week. Little Talks should be called Little Steps. We get a bonus 241 with Ke$ha. Scream and Shout has become an "ear worm" for me. All in all, a good show this week.

Since Ryan said "country act," not "country song," then I would think that would be correct, regardless if the song sounds twangy or not.

I enjoyed today's show (like I do every week). It was a given that Taylor was going to be #1, but now who will be next seeing as how she will be there for a while? I always find this entertaining. :)
