Mariah clearly didn't know that when she flippantly said to check her Facebook page every day for updates three days ago, that I would take her words literally and OBSESSIVELY check back every 30 mins.....

Okay, so I decided to check Mediabase website and where's the call out scores for #B?? lol Was it removed???? It bothers me how #B is not submitted to Grammys? It's one of her most acclaimed singles in recent years. If it really wasn't submitted then mariah and her label are probably really going at it and not on good terms

The Grammys submission list leaked weeks ago and #B wasn't on it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The new era begins. Radio personalities start tweeting about MC again which means new music.

Thank god it's not JD!! A lot fans (including me) thought it's him ever since the title leaked (along with couple of other songs)
Anyway, I was wrong and things are looking better. #B was infact submitted to the Grammys in several categories.

I'm excited about Rodney Jerkins. "So Lonely" is fire, and even though the new song has a different intent, Rodney has made enough different records that I am sure he can help with a ballad if the new song is indeed that.

"#Beautiful" has been submitted in Pop Duo/Group, which makes no sense because it has no shot getting in there considering big hits like "Stay" and "Just Give Me A Reason" are competing there. "#B" should have gone to Traditional R&B because it has a better shot there, and because it actually fits there with its Motown influence. Its Pop is really ironic, too, because the poor call-out scores for the song were because it was 'too urban.' "You'll always be somewhere on the outside..."

"Roar" and "Blurred Lines" were both MONSTERS. Not comparable. A lot of Mariah fans seem to have reasoned that because "#Beautiful" sold surprisingly well for a Mariah single, that it should have become a major hit. The sales and call out indicated that the song had the kind of reception that warrants moderate airplay. As for "The Way," it only outpeaked "#Beautiful" by a few positions at CHR/Pop radio. The Hot 100 Airplay peak was also higher due to the major Rhythmic support that that song had. "The Way" outperformed "#Beautiful" on iTunes (including by rocketing to #1 upon release), and had stronger call out scores than "#Beautiful". This was definitely not a case of radio not responding appropriately to other barometers of interest. By the way Paramore's latest is currently spending its 2nd week in the top 10 at Top 40 (and is #16 on Radio Songs), yet its downloads fell 27-31. It has never been in the top 20 of Digital Songs! Robin Thicke's latest single is #13 at Top 40 yet fell 28-35 in downloads and hasn't made the top 15 in downloads.

Robin's song hasn't had strong sales or call out scores, but it's following one of the biggest hits of all time so CHR/Pop has been somewhat kind to the follow-up. Mariah has experienced that herself. "Shake It Off" peaked at #6 in Sales and had poor call out scores but became a #1 CHR/Pop and Hot 100 Airplay hit.

Robin Thicke's song is coming off the back of a massive single, so of course radio was going to jump on it, regardless of how well it has performed digitally (which is shockingly poor).
Glad that Rodney produced the single, but man, this is a weird era so far. The wait for the album was so long, but with the single and possibly the album coming out before the end of the year, it now seems so sudden. I hope there'll be enough time to drum up publicity for the album so it can have a reasonable first week (i.e. 100-120k).

When was Charmbracelet announced? "Through The Rain" was released September 11, 2002. Word of the album came out early summer 2002, I believe.

That isn't a surprise since it doesn't sound like current R&b at all. So it's call out scores that matter, not much else. People shouldn't use the downloads of "#b" as an excuse since it was doing better than Paramore and had more consistency than Grande. Anyway how much of a song do people even hear when rating it?

No. It's a mix of the two, since they're both barometers of public opinion (as is streaming). You could also find examples of songs that were hits that had good sales and not so good callout scores. Callout hooks are usually 30 seconds, but raters are also asked if they're familiar with the song they're rating.

Speaking of the Urban format, is anyone else kind of concerned that this new single might be another "#Beautiful," in that it might not be urban enough for Urban or pop enough for Pop? Obviously I'm jumping the gun here considering we haven't heard it, but I'm going by the fact that it's co-produced by Darchild and I can't think of a full-blown Urban production by him lately. Just a thought...

"#Beautiful" was pop enough for pop. As for urban, that's why there was an urban mix, but it just didn't fare all that great at the format. The rhythmic peak was No. 10, which was a pleasant surprise. Oh, that "Prisoner" sample.
