Hmm....does those banners have any of us thinking?
(And before anyone GOES THERE, yes I am one of those crazy bitches who want MC and Walter back together for at least one dated 90s ballad!)

"#Beautiful" was pop enough for pop. Not according to the research. Anyway, of course Walter wants to work with Mariah; he made most of his money with her. We have no indication that she wants to work with him. I am sure she is over their beef at this point, but probably to where she just doesn't think about him.

^Research/callout scores indicate the listener's like of the song, not whether it was pop enough or not. A song can be very pop, but not be liked by the surveyed listening audience.
I doubt we'd see a Mimi/Wally A. collabo at this point, either.

If she cares what the "fans" want? She would do it. I KNOW she knows her fans heave been foaming from the mouth since 2005 for her to work with him again. She needs to just do it and stop.

If she were completely concerned with what the fans want, she wouldn't have just made JD her manager. Mariah does what Mariah wants.

Absolutely- JD would be one of the last people she'd "merge" with if it were all about pleasing the fans.

If she were completely concerned with what the fans want, she wouldn't have just made JD her manager. Mariah does what Mariah wants. Because Mariah CAN! I think it's awesome she's still making music and is still competitive in the industry. Most of the popular artists from the 80s and 90s don't make music anymore - so any song/album/video/performance we get at this point is truly a bonus. If Mariah wants one of her best friends as a manager, so be it - worse things could happen - like 'retiring', or something of the sort. She's sticking around for the fans, and that's just awesome, because she certainly doesn't have to!

That was my point. The fans will bitch and moan and STILL buy her album.

I think most people complain about her decisions because they want her so bad to break that Beatles record. I feel like if she had already done that no one would bitch about anything but the fact that she's so close to beat that record combined with her age are what make the lambs flip.

But what would breaking that Hot 100 record mean in the end? She's had so much chart success as it is. While still enjoying success, Mimi probably has let whole thing go, and perhaps some fans would be less inclined to "flip" if they followed suit.

JD and her go way back and he always has come thru for her (more times than not). JD understands what kind of artist she is better than most of the people who have managed her recently. Plus who can tell her like it is and actually have an impact? I think it might work.

JD has worked with Mariah on two of her top 4-5 hits - "Always Be My Baby" and "We Belong Together." Even on filler like "Love Story," the melodies they write are beautiful. I don't have a problem with her working with JD on music; no partnership is perfect (she and Walter churned out some duds, too).
My issue is more that I don't think JD has any real experience as a manager. Does he know what appearances are best for her? Does he know how to make in-roads with media, label heads, radio personalities, etc? Does he know how to set-up promotional campaigns?

JD has worked with Mariah on two of her top 4-5 hits - "Always Be My Baby" and "We Belong Together." People always say this like those songs were yesterday. It's been almost two decades since "Always Be My Baby" and nearly a decade since "We Belong Together". Jermaine hasn't produced a major hit since 2005. The last single we got from them was "Triumphant," which was straight up garbage. This is another case of a songwriting duo that produced magic years ago who aren't necessarily demonstrating that they still have that magic. As much as pop stars don't stay on top forever, neither do producers. It's the same way I feel about her working with Walter again. Yeah, they produced song great songs years ago, but Walter hasn't demonstrated that the quality of his more recent output is on the level of Mariah's big 90s hits either. Could Jermaine end up producing an amazing single for Mariah? Sure. But the chances are looking incredibly slim right now.

I think the problem for me is everything she has done for the past 2 years comes off as cheap and unfinished from her videos, from the production on her songs, the lyrics and even the vocals at times. Triumphant was absolute garbage everything aside from the one dance remix was utter garbage. Almost Home was nice but again not really promoted and it just kind of was there. Beautiful was nice, but the video again was garbage, that urban remix was garbage. It is like she is half-assing her work rather than taking the time to make proper videos, proper remixes and a proper promotion/release schedule.

Triumphant has such a great haunting dark yet beautiful melody. It was ruined by the rappers and Mariah's own layered filtered vocals.
If entire song sounded like the first verse of the remix, it would have been her 19 number #1 hit.
Almost is also good. Too bad island is too blind to promote it.
Infact, I think that Almost Home would have performed better than #B if were given the same promo push. The video of AH imo is better than #B video.
#Beautiful is amazing but it was ruined by the video and its tragic live performances.
Imagine if #Beautiful had a classy expensive cinematic video like WBT. It would smashed destroyed the charts.
The real #B video got the exposure and negative backlash of her being inappropriate after the idol premiere.
Why can't she make serious expensive great videos anymore???

It's no different though than her past managers such as Randy Jackson or Louise McNeally. We'll have to wait and see but it's refreshing she's using social media as a tool now to release her next single.

Angels, those scenarios may have been possible some years ago, but likely not in 2012/2013. Sometimes, the lack of full understanding about how the chart climate works (i.e. factors that the act can't control), reminds me of those who think the Rock Hall is just about rock music. "Triumphant" wasn't as bad as some make it out to be- more Mimi would have been nice, but I'll listen to that any day over stuff like "Loverboy" and some other tracks from 1999-2002.

Yeah, I never hated Triumphant, either. I used it for a party jam. I listen to a lot of hip-hop anyway and I happen to like Meek Mill and Rick Ross a lot, but yeah, as a Mariah fan, first and foremost, I wanted more Mariah...which I got in the dance remixes anyway. It's still a low-ranking song in her catalog but not quite the stinker it has been made out to be either.

"Triumphant" actually grew on me about a month after it was released and the remixes were jams.

I think her days as a legit hitmaker are far from over. #B was a modest hit and had everything against it. Imagine if the video was more 'appropriate' (I loved it but I get why some might think it was bad) and the performances were good. She's still capable of crafting a memorable melody and as long as she doesn't get big again she'll get them hits with ease.

As long as she doesn't get big again- and that has what to do with anything?
I don't think anyone's saying she can't score hits any more. U.S. pop radio is definitely youth-driven. and it's undisputed that older acts have a tougher time, but that doesn't mean she can't reach the top 10 or anything for a certain amount of time.

What is funny is I always think of Gwen Stefani's video for Cool when I think of #Beautiful. She really missed out on a golden opportunity to really make some noise with that single with bad execution.

Been trolling this forum for years....hardly agree with most of your past comments but for the last couple of posts, you are quite spot on. :)) T definitely was not a garbage, it's a catchy song. It would have been better w/o the RR's rap and more Mariah. Alternatively, they could have promoted the song as MM and RR with Mariah being a feat. (a la IKWYW) then most probably the fans would be more appreciative I think. ???

Mariah has complete control of her music at this point.
