Mmhmm love them too! Let me talk about something personal for just one minute since this song aint all that. There is two sides to Coco, the Ukrainian fem side/ wild and then there is hip-hop thug Coco, so whatev my prey like, I give it to them.
Jeng- spilling the tea is gossiping, its what I do. Its a drag queen saying most of the origins are from blacks in NYC or San Antonio, San Antonio might surprise you but lots of the southern drag queen lingo comes from there.

Anyways even though I don't fancy this song, Mimi still 1/2 for me, I might be a eternal optimist but I get the feeling this album might turn out be her best vocal album in ages, deep and mature. I sense the feeling Mimi is about to unleash a vocal outpouring of emotion. I worry for the lyrics but the content and maturity I feel with be great. I'm rooting 4 her!

Mimi posted a message on Facebook that what premiered on 11-11 wasn't the proper mix of the song. And the link to the song takes you to iTunes. Oh, Mimi.

She did post a new version that has a whistle in the bridge, while the other version posted on the FB didn't have.

Is that the only difference? I gather the iTunes version is the "proper" mix.

Well the differences are subtle, but the instrumentation and the vocals come through much clearer to me in the newer version.

Yeah I'm not so sure of the differences. I assume the iTunes version has always been the "correct" version? She's weird. I like her last part....
"There's no doubt in my mind that this sounds like a self absorbed diva on a "woe-is-me" tangent about a couple of ad libs or some other triviality, but the reality is this is me, focusing solely on the record, wanting you to hear it and experience it the right way. I love and appreciate you so much for taking the time to even glance at this 20-page "diva in distress" thesis. Thank you for letting me vent"

Well at least you know she cares about her work. That is something that has always been in the back of my mind these past couple of years does she really care about what she is doing anymore. I can see after a nice 2-3 paragraph freak out over something small that she does indeed still care. It makes me happy to know that.

My god she's such a drama queen. The only difference I really notice is that the first upload on Facebook doesn't have the whistle (@ 2:56) while the one she uploaded today has it. Can't really notice it since I've been listening to it on YouTube/Spotify which I think is the properly mastered version. reported for spam

Mariah Carey Hey Lambs, I have to tell you this, I can't do what I always do and say nothing at all. It is 3:30am (11.14), and I'm sitting on my bathroom floor, very upset by some news I just got from a close friend and employee. Lucky her, she was "nominated" to deliver this message to me after the long awaited 11.11 moment and the Jimmy Fallon show, knowing how upset I would be. Not because the world has come to an end or something, but because this 11.11 listening party was so important to me on a core level as a musician, who cares so much about how my fans hear my music for the first time that I didn't even allow a snippet to be released until 11 on the dot. To cut to the chase, a mistake was made by a brand new sound engineer whose only task was to press the space bar while my team, and an incredible group of people from Facebook, partied while listening to the properly mixed & mastered version of "The Art of Letting Go" on repeat from my iPod on my home speakers. Clearly, I was focused on answering your questions during the Q&A. There was no reason for me to wonder if the final mix we were listening to in that room together was different than what you were listening to!!!!! Like I always say, I am involved with every record I make, from the inception to the completion of the song. Every nuance of the beat or vocal matters to me. Even if the differences may seem slight to you, I had put time, effort and emotions into "The Art of Letting Go" and the real mix is how I intended for you to hear the song. Rather than remove the old version from Facebook (the iTunes version is the real one), I just figured I would put up the real mix and allow you to listen to it back-to-back, should you choose to do so and tell me what you think the differences are. I want you to hear it like you're hearing it for the first time with me, and I will answer any questions that you have, pertaining to the song. You know that I don't comment on gossip, I typically don't respond to things like this or go into so much detail to the world, but this is something I'm upset about and I wish I would have known sooner. There's no doubt in my mind that this sounds like a self absorbed diva on a "woe-is-me" tangent about a couple of ad libs or some other triviality, but the reality is this is me, focusing solely on the record, wanting you to hear it and experience it the right way. I love and appreciate you so much for taking the time to even glance at this 20-page "diva in distress" thesis. Thank you for letting me vent, this is another reason why Facebook rocks! You'll be hearing from me soon. Here is the REAL version of "The Art of Letting Go". Answers these questions for me: 1. Can you hear a difference at all? 2. Can you see why I like this version better? 3. Where can you hear the differences? 4. Does the song affect you different emotionally after hearing the real version? Let's talk about it, I'll be here waiting! Get "The Art of Letting Go" on iTunes now: smarturl.it/iLettingGo

She said she'd like a release around Valentine's Day, but I don' think a date is set. And even if it were... we know Mimi's history.

After a few more listens, I think this is one of her best singing performances in her career. No whisper, no ridiculous abrupt changes in tone (except when it was aptely needed on "press delete"), nice use of the lower register. I totally see the Vanishing comparisons here. As I said, the melodies are pretty and they work without the need of an obvious hook, a very big plus in my book. Unfortunately, it's the lyrics that don't make it as good as it should have been. "Letting go is exceedingly hurtful", did she have to add exceedingly there? A lot of the wording seems to be there to just fill out space or worse, like high school students trying to make their essay somehow more susbtantial by using big words. "There's a deep deep loss of hope/And the anger burns in me"... Well she never was a serious lyricist to start with, so I guess we can't expect her to become Fiona Apple.

Is that letter for real? CRYING. "Whose only task was to press the space bar." I cannot. If she isn't going to slay me with music, can she write more letters please?

Yeah, the proper version was uploaded to iTunes, Vevo, and Spotify, but not to facebook. Most people didn't notice at all. Mariah's letter shows was a perfectionist she is with her work, and it's why we don't have an album yet. LOL! Also, I doubt this is the fault of a new engineer. For one, she's had the same engineer for awhile. For another, the engineer likely wouldn't be the one uploading a song to facebook. I say - blame JD!!

I don't know, but as someone who listened to both versions through a good pair of earbuds (not iPod/iPhone stock), this song just went from "I don't know if I can listen to this again" to pretty decent. The lyrics are still whacky, but it makes for a much smoother listen. The rough mix sounded like a semi-pro recording of some girl at a dive bar who spent the night drowning her sorrows in pitchers and decided to take to the mic to sing an old Mariah Carey song over the jukebox while eating a slice of pizza. Maybe at the start of the bridge there's a second or two longer whistle note in the background, but other than that, no difference at all. Calm down Mimi.

Oh boy! You should learn the art of letting go! ;) Sorry guys for those error posts from my iPhone Pulse app. I decided to finally listen to the track this morning after reading the last 5 pages of posts, but couldn't post my comments in the thread. I like it It reminds me of Forever, which is one of my favorite Mariah songs ever -it was her 5th consecutive song to top my personal chart. I love how clear and powerful her voice sounds, and that her vocal runs are well placed and without exaggeration. I don't necessarily love it and I don't think it should be a single, but it's a good song overall. If it's a single, I'd still like it more than Bye, IWTKWLI, HATEU. I liked Triumphant a bit more as a single tho. It could've been a much stronger song though, and that's the frustrating part. The lyrics could've benefited from the eye of an editor, to make them flow better. As some have said sometimes it seems like a poetry is trying to be fit in a song sometimes with no rhymes or cadence. I'm not against big words though. And I certainly prefer her singing about letting go being 'exceedingly hurtful' than another girl trying to make the words 'unconditional / unconditionally' flow in a chorus The production started great, with the strings and piano and then staying subtle to let Mariah's voice shine, but then it sounds stale for the second part of the song until the change comes with the bridge. Oh and of course the chorus could've been better. It comes inadvertently and with not enough change from the verses. But the last chorus is pure bliss!!! All in all, I'm getting more excited about this new album... And may be the first Mariah album I buy in its first year of life (not counting #1s which I bought about 1-2 months after its release).

I love the "exceeding hurtful", it's very Bible to me, feels more epic than if she were to say just hurtful. But other than that, I think this song is a masterpiece. Listened to it all day yesterday at work, y'all gotta forgive me for kvelling, it's just so good though! The power of the vocals, lyrics, background vocals, the subtleties, thank God for this song!

Having just heard the new version I can see why Mimi went off, I see the differences. The main difference is that in this new version its seems during the verses there are pauses so the words flow better, where the other one was like a Coco run on sentence.

I don't understand why people have an issue with the lyrics; I love them. My favorite part right now is: "Evidently your words were merely lies/Reverberating in my ears, and the echo won't subside" Anyway, how have I missed this piece of perfection for the past 19 years? youtu.be/AGd3yUnKYM8
