I see Mariah having one more mega hit in her career. Another resurgence and a smash, and then she quietly releases music for the rest of her career to little or no fanfare from the general public. I'm OK with that.

^Are you clairvoyant? I don't see her having a big-time airplay hit at this point, but with the right single, a solid top 10 may not be out of the realm of possibility.

I would love one more #1 song. (with a #1 debuting album). Then I would be okay if she just made albums for her fans and faded out of the public spotlight. But one more, for the nostalgia. It can only be done if the Label invests a s**t load of money into it. I think she's hungry for it but it's going to take Label support.
It can be done but it will also take: -Getting in the E=MC2 body shape -Changing her look up a bit (maybe a shorter hair style, new clothes stylist) -A great/creative music video -Maximum Label support -Great live performances
At that point the song doesn't even have to be perfect. But an AMAZING song would def help. Where's that Hit-boy song at?

I could see Mariah's release schedule really slowing down at this point. It's already been over 4 years since her last studio album, and we're seeing what a hard time she's having getting it out there. I don't really see reason to believe the next album after it is going to come much sooner. The only way I could see that happening is if she relinquishes the majority of her songwriting control. I feel like she's trying to draw water from a stone with her songwriting at this point. Shocking musical legend collabo's is what's going to get the industry interested in her album. If the press release comes out and it says she's worked with Big Jim, JD and Rodney Jerkins it wont spark as much interest as if it says; featured on the album are Stevie Wonder and Prince! She's at that level now where she can do that. Maybe for the fans, but I don't see pop music fans in general thinking it's shocking or becoming interested in her album because of Stevie Wonder and Prince collabos. They're legends but way past their artistic and commercial peak.

Not the pop fans but the industry people who respect Stevie and Prince and who would check out the songs, leading them to listen to the album and hopefully "like it". The worst would be if people just ignore it because they think it's the same old (JD) thing.

Mariah has never been the kind of artist who records hundreds of songs for an album. She usually only records the songs she intends to make the album (or be released as bonus tracks). She has very few unreleased songs out there. She's had a couple of instances where a song was written but not recorded and then she recorded it later on, but Mariah does not have a large vault of unreleased recordings.

I remember when Kelly was on idol and Mariah said how much she love PLU and then said something like "I need to get your opinion on some of my new stuff".. or something like that. If Kelly would say "hey Mariah I have a song I would love for you to record" and give Mariah the amazing demo Kelly did called "I Cant Lose" (cant find it on youtube). Its an amazing song and it would be awesome for Mariah!!!!

She just needs one more #1 song so she can re-release her #1's album and go on a massive world wide #1's Tour! (Right now she has two decades of #1's. If she gets one more she'll cross 3 decades of #1 hits).
Set List:
1. *new #1 hit 2. Touch My Body 3. Don't Forget About Us 4. We Belong Together 5. TGIY 6. Heartbreaker 7. My All 8. Honey 9. Always Be My Baby 10. One Sweet Day 11. Fantasy 12. Hero 13. Dreamlover 14. I'll Be There 15. Emotions 16. I Don't Wanna Cry 17. Someday 18. Love Takes Time 19. Vision of Love
That would be the greatest album/Tour EVER!

Don't Forget About Us and Thank God I Found You are far and away her strangest number ones. Neither feel like they were big enough to be number one singles. and they both seem to be totally forgotten. Make It Happen, Cant Let Go, Forever, Shake It Off, Without You are all definatly more remembered than those two. How is the world did TGIFY make it to number one? I don't think I ever even heard that on the radio

"Don't Forget About Us" spent 5 weeks at #1 in airplay and a week at #1 in sales. It may not be one of her more memorable #1s, but it was definitely "big enough".

I think "TGIFY" is only her truly 'questionable' #1 in terms of impact. The airplay for the remix certainly helped. It also helped that some big songs at the time didn't have a commercial release. The funny thing is "TGIFY" probably could have had another week or two at #1 if it wasn't a limited single.
And, yeahm "DFAU" was a #1 in both airplay and downloads, so no real way to question that one.

I have this feeling that she'll have one more smash era in the next 5 years. All she needs is a better team. I still trust her in writing a great song and she's still hungry for her career so it's really all about how her label supports her. #Beautiful could be that song; I really don't know what went wrong there. Perhaps too much Miguel?

And really its sales total is not representative of its popularity in the past 8 years because it hasn't been available on iTunes since 2006.

Yeah, "Don't Forget About Us" did perform pretty well and was a good way to launch the re-release. I do think it's one of her more forgettable number ones, though, so if she never performs it again, I wouldn't mind.

Island Website has TAOLG right under the new releases section...so hopefully they will be on board to take this album to the top.
If #Beautiful was her 19th and final #1 hit I would've been happy. Hopefully this album still holds #19!

^I don't like to see some get these hopes up, only to have them dashed. Nothing is impossible, but the chances of a No. 1 on the Hot 100, given all circumstances considered, is a long shot (unless she collaborated with an radio "it" person of the moment- but, as much as she enjoys that commercial success, note that she hasn't jumped on the dance-pop bandwagon- so, there are limits to that "chart hunger." She's just doing her thing, which she's earned the right to do. What's this about DFAU not being on iTunes? Can't check the actual store right now, but what is this? itunes.apple.com/us/album/emancipation-mimi-ultra-platinum/id89686358Some of the No. 1s were not equally successful in airplay and sales- i.e. "Honey" peaked at No. 10 airplay, "My All" at No. 15," "Heartbreaker" at No. 8, TGIFY at No. 15. But, that was an era of diminishing commercial-single releases. None of those tracks are among her biggest hits at pop radio, though, so that hindered the airplay some.

I wonder what Mariah plans on singing at the Rockefeller tree lighting. She's already performed All I Want..., Oh Santa, Christmas Time Is In the Air.
Surely she's not going to do a repeat song/performance. Maybe she will do When Christmas Comes? (But, why would she?)

But, that was an era of diminishing commercial-single releases. None of those tracks are among her biggest hits at pop radio, though, so that hindered the airplay some. "Honey" was actually a bigger airplay hit than "Heartbreaker," although the Hot 100 Airplay peaks make it seem like it was the other way around. The Hot 100 Airplay chart didn't count Urban airplay at the time and "Honey" was a Top 5 Urban hit. That put a lot of big Urban hits at a disadvantage in terms of airplay peaks in the 90s and made it seem like a bunch of total radio flops only became hits because of high single sales.

Where did #Beautiful peak in Airplay? I think It's Like That reached #14 right? And Obsessed was #9?

Agreed. She needs to let go of the songwriting. She's got a great instrument in her voice and sense of melody/harmony, and I feel it's being wasted on overly rehashed concepts, dull subjects and really just mediocre songwriting skills. Though that collaboration can only come with a songwriter that can understand her skills and has chemistry with her. Not easy at all. I second the opinion about her collabo with the Dream. If you can forget the last segment of Memoirs (which didn't involve the Dream incidentally, basically everything from Angels Cry and on), Memoirs was probably her best album in more than a decade. The reason why Beautiful was so fresh is Miguel's involvement.

Thats not Mariah she takes more pride in writing and seeing a song from inception to completion more than anything else, she is a studio rat. These hypothetical situations are basically mute when it comes to Mimi.

It's not like Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson asking to work with Stevie or Prince. Uh, excuse you. Britney has worked with Madonna, and Jessica has worked with Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, both of whom are also greats. There's no need to put down other artists in an attempt to make Mariah look better.

Mariah is a legend. Neither Britney nor Jessica are! I'm talking about a Legend to Legend duet.
