^^It happens to all the older acts. This is Mariah's 24th year on the charts. It was bound to happen.
But, she needs to put out a studio album! It's been 4 years.

Merry Christmas is holding well at #22 on iTunes. (Yes, she's an older act, but her 19 year old christmas album is higher than Gaga and Katy's current albums) She needs more streaming points.

She should be promoting a new studio album. Not promoting the same old Xmas music... I think that all the diva albums coming out in the 4th Quarter (Katy, GaGa, Miley, Britney) scared off Rihanna this year.

"AIWFCIY" is top 30 on iTunes despite everyone and their sister, father, cousin, and best friend already owning the song.
I am sure the lack of streaming kept it off the Hot 100.
Anyway, the run she did on "iiiiis" in the intro to "AIWFCIY" last night is giving me life!

Rihanna consistently goes platinum every year so I highly doubt she feels threatened by other pop divas who may barely scan what Unapologetic did.

And Mariah's Christmas music will be promoted as much as she wants. You may retreat to the Madonna thread now.

Rihanna's label feared "saturation" in the diva market.

Peeps, AIWFCIY didn't re-enter the Hot 100 last year, that reflected Thanksgiving-week. So, I'm not sure why anyone was expecting it to this week.

LOVED those performance. She seems so much more comfortable on the stage lately...(I think it helps that she knows she owns Christmas)

Remastered and added much needed reverb to vocal per usual:

it was great to finally hear Mariah live and sounding better than she has since... the 90s? I mean she was sounding strong on those songs last night!

Exactly, everyone is forgetting that there is one less week between TDay and Xmas this year. There's a solid chance it will enter in Top 40 next week based on full airplay, plus these rising sales.

Album is #19 on iTunes. Can't say for sure, but I think that's an iTunes peak. Song is at #25.

Enjoyed both of last night's performances, great job! Mariah's Christmas songs and her whole festive persona always inspires me to get in the Christmas spirit.

Hmm. I thought the AIWFCIY performance was very weak.

Apparently Entertainment Weekly does not love Merry Christmas II U- in the Bullseye from Dec. 6, it has a pic of the first album, with "All we want for Christmas is to listen to this song on repeat," and then an image of the second one, with "All we want for Christmas is to forget that Mariah Carey made a second holiday album."
First, it technically should have put a pic of the AIWFCIY single cover, rather than the album. Second, because the first album was so successful and contains the original AIWFCIY, it's tough for MCIIU to compete.

I remember being so worried when she was making MCIIU that we'd end up with an album of terrible JD-produced urban Christmas songs - the work she did with Marc Shaiman is amazing. 'Christmas Time Is In The Air Again' sounds like an old Christmas Classic !

It does- "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" is holiday magic, and "Charlie Brown Christmas" is another favorite from that album.

I like both Christmas albums, but I feel the second album is more cohesive. I love the production on the second album. I would say the only song on it I dislike is One Child, and that one is just meh not bad, but not great to me.

The only one I really feel on the second album is "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again." The vocals were great, but the OCD vocal dynamics (soft-loud phrase after phrase) on the covers weren't easy on the ears, and that's putting it lightly. The best vocal on the album was the intro to the cheesy-ass yet still enjoyable Auld Lang Syne.

My favorite on the MCIIY is "The First Noel/Born Is The King". That interlude is some HOT r&b. I listen to it year round actually.

I'm still mad at her for turning The First Noel into her and Nick's babymaking jam. Born is the king, born is the king...HAH!

I hate that part too. And Up On the Rooftop... whatever you call it that she did to that song, I'm not a fan. She Dupri-d it.
