That Pitchfork review was #beautiful. Right? "If there is a strategy behind all of this, it’s simply to explore the pleasures afforded by the meeting of minds of two pros, artists so intimately attuned to their craft that they can knock off what already feels like a songbook standard without ever seeming to try" has to be the most genuine and gratifying sentence I've read regarding her songcraft since Sasha Frere-Jones wrote in The New Yorker that "not all Carey’s achievements are commercial, though: she co-wrote one of the few worthy modern additions to the holiday canon." It's the kind of review that someone from her team or MariahDaily would never call her attention to because it wasn't written by her publicist, but I wish they would because I think it's one that she would really appreciate. |

I think that has been a lot of the problem for Mariah in the later part of her career. No one wants to be truly honest with her about her decisions, what is really being said, or the quality of the music/videos/performances she is putting out there. Though I will disagree, I think Mariah pays more attention about what is said about her than we give her credit. Now whether, she chooses to truly take to heart what is said about her work is another story. It doesn't seem like it matters for better or worse because she still does what she wants even if it has proven not to work for her in the past. I really love the sound she created with Miguel on Beautiful, and I hope it is a direction she explores more. I think she is at her best when she is breezy and carefree. That is why I liked E=MC^2 and Memoirs a lot because there was a lot of breeziness and playfulness on those albums. She has to get back to writing songs with some clarity to them. Mariah is at her best when her songs have simple verses and strong choruses. I think that is why Beautiful worked so well there was just so much clarity to it.

Christmas Time Is In The Air Again was ok tonight. Better performance was last year at Rockefeller lighting. That was just great!

^Omg, seriously cannot WAIT to see her on WWHL. Is she getting a full hour? She should get a 2-hour special.
Anyway, performances tonight on Buble were INCREDIBLE. AIWFCIY was her best since 2004, and I loved the ad-libs and background vocals she did. She also looked great and like she was having fun. CTIITAA was also beautiful, I think equal to her performance last year. She looked and sounded outstanding for both.
