Codex Top 40

08/12/13

Missed a couple weeks, oops. Miley spends a 7th week at #1, breaking the previous record held by Get Lucky and Scream & Shout! This will probably be its last week though, as both Wake Me Up and Roar are rising fast. Wake Me Up climbs 8-2, pushing Fall Down down to #7 after 6 weeks in the runner up spot, which makes it the longest running #2 this year by far. Roar, Katy Perry's lead single after her last huge era debuts at #3 from just a day and a half of spins.     Album tracks from Random Access Memories, Blurred Lines and Stars Dance dominate the top 20. They would dominate the bottom 20 too, but due to a rule they're only allowed to chart if they're top 20. Get Lucky and Blurred Lines (song) got boosts from the albums, returning to the top 10. Come & Get It wasn't as lucky, it falls off this week. Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey climbs 11-6 this week, I think her only other top 10 would have been Video Games, maybe, but I don't think it would have gotten this high.     In the bottom half of the chart, nothing happens pretty much. 5 songs re-enter due to the fact that there was nothing else to chart. #30 is #36 on the all-inclusive chart, due to 3 recurrents and 3 more non-eligible album tracks, but #40 is like #125 :X So I'll try to find some new songs this week, maybe I'll find a new #1. ^^ Also, opinions: is the new dropout section better than the one with chart runs?

Katy Perry Roars to #1 with the lead single from her new album, PRISM. It debuted at #3 last week off of a day and a half of spins, it would have likely been the first #1 debut of the year had it been released on Monday. It blocks Lady Gaga's Applause, which debuts at #2 with 46 points, which is the biggest debut week of the year, tied with Almost Home. Will the video release of Applause be enough to push it to #1 next week?     Selena Gomez gets a fourth top 10 from Stars Dance, as Save the Day climbs 11-10. Undercover reached #4 last week, falling 4-8 this week, Slow Down reached #9 on 06/17 after debuting at #10, and Come & Get It got a week at #1 in June on the same week. Daft Punk's Doin' It Right climbs 8-4 giving Daft Punk a second top 5 hit. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, One More Time and Face to Face would have been top 5's this year aswell, but they were too old. In other Daft Punk news, Instant Crush reaches the top 10, climbing 15-9. Janelle Monáe debuts at #7 with Dance Apocalyptic. It's her first charting song as a lead artist, she previously would have charted in 2012 on We Are Young. Chart news. I changed my album track rule slightly. Previously, album tracks could only chart if they were in the top 20. That's still partly true, but now it can chart if it's higher than the top 20 singles. This week for example, that means that any album track above Need U (100%) is eligible to chart. This isn't a big difference, but this week it allows Fragments of Time to chart, where it couldn't with the previous rules. The main reason for this is because I don't want album tracks blocking eachother.  I've also finally decided to make a rule for recurrency. Songs are not allowed to chart if they were released (as singles) more than 2 years ago, or if I added them to my iTunes more than a year ago. If they become recurrent while they're charting, I'll wait for them to fall out before banning them.

Applause climbs to #1 in its second week, barely dethroning Roar by half a point. In its first two weeks, Applause has amassed 99 points, which breaks the previous record of 96 held by Lindsey Stirling's Crystallize (04/08)	This week's highest debut is Wild by Jessie J. It is her first entry on the chart, although Price Tag, Who's Laughing Now and Domino were hits in 2011. Lorde also enters the chart for the first time with Royals at #8.	Ellie Goulding's new EP, Halcyon Days debuts three songs on the chart this week, two of which debut higher than Burn, which entered at #20 (07/08) and later peaked at #8. Three more songs barely miss the chart.

Hmmm I didn't realize Tessellate was a cover. But listening to it, I actually really like the original! Undercover, Stay Awake and Goodness Gracious each have 9 points, putting them right under Bang Bang  1 more point for each and they all would have entered at #25-28 beside Hearts Without Chains.

I wouldn't be surprised if I Love It re-enters sometime and breaks the tie again. Though it's already been played to death and the chart is competitive now...   Either way, S&S is more impressive since it technically would have had 6 more weeks in 2012, while I only added I Love It after I started my chart.

Glad you're happy with the adds I'm currently going through people's lists and listening to songs I don't know. Most of the adds this week were from your chart, actually. The three you quoted could enter soon, they're doing good but Halcyon days ate a lot of plays this week, 85 counting just the new tracks.

Also glad to see you like One Day! I know it was a big hit worldwide but it flopped in the US, UK and Australia (not released) so I figured no one would know it. Also <3 Daft Punk love. RAM is a really good album imo! Not as good as Discovery, but better than Homework.

That's true. I prefer dance music, but the reason I think I wasn't into "Applause" (it has grown on me though) is because of DJ White Shadow. I don't know, but that was the main reason I didn't like Born This Way, despite I really like Lady Gaga and I find The Fame Monster a great EP, with the exception, of course, of "Alejandro" which I really, really hate.

Another chart that features Gaga. Well this one has her live for da #1. Love that Katy and Avicii are right behind her. This is excellent. I like both versions of Summertime Sadness. Lorde is coming to rule and nice that Janelle is in the top 10. Must check out those Ellie songs. The best debut of the week goes to Eminem going Berzark on this ape sh!t and having the Beastie Boys Berzark Gene. Like that Get Lucky was a 6-time #1 song, but I’m sad that Blurred Lines couldn’t at least been one. Loving the Daft Punk songs on here. This is a solid chart you have here.
