Glanced at the GIF of her writing out the announcement the other day and promptly forgot about it...now that I've seen it again, I'm very excited to hear this!! I should really listen to The ArchAndroid more now that I've introduced myself to it.

I don't get it. I assumed Janelle had already stablished her name and a fanbase (even if it's a small one), but then she releases a great song and apparently no one's talking about it. It sounds perfect for Urban radio, and yet it's struggling to get any airplay. Did I overestimate her success?

Outside of "We Are Young," Janelle is not a big seller, esp. singles-wise. Her acclaim lies in the critical praise to her music and her electrifying stage shows. She's a Grammy-nominated CoverGirl, who extensively tours and makes big festival appearances. Sales aren't a large part of her "success".

I don't even know if they've ever sent any of her songs to radio. Did "Tightrope" have an adds date?

Did "Tightrope" enter Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart? Is "Q.U.E.E.N." and its #47 peak, her highest on the chart?

"Q.U.E.E.N." is her only song to hit the chart, but it definitely benefitted from the inclusion of digital sales (whereas "Tightrope" was released when digital sales weren't included in the R&B/Hip-Hop formula).

She is with Bad Boy... I think if they sent this to Urban AC, Urban, maybe even Rhythmic (with the success of "Blurred Lines") this could be a nice hit. She peaked within iTunes top 100 upon the single's release. With promotion she could become a bigger seller.

I'm just surprised that the song isn't doing better, and how little I hear people talking about her upcoming album. With all her "success" (even if it didn't translate to sales" I assumed she'd have more fans. QUEEN has about 5 million views on Youtube, which is A LOT, so I'm just wondering. Maybe those views come mostly from outside the US?

Janelle Monáe Reveals Collaborations With Prince And Miguel On New AlbumGrammy-winning diva Janelle Monáe is ready to drop her sophomore effort and has recruited a few notable artists for the cause. The "Tightrope" singer poses pretty for the new Billboard magazine cover and revealed to the music mag that Miguel and Prince will appear on her Electric Lady LP. "We are great friends, and he is a mentor to us, to me," she says of working with the artist formally known as Prince. "It's a beautiful thing to have a friend -- someone who cares about your career, and wants to see you go far and to push boundaries and shake up the world -- give whatever they possibly can to the cause." Monáe didn't hesitate to share wax with the iconic figure. "It's not every day that he collaborates. I'm honored and humbled that he trusted me," she said, keeping mum about the track's title. "He is forever my friend, and I am forever indebted. I can't say too much else about it." Other high-powered features include "Adorn" crooner Miguel who sprinkles notes on "Primetime" and Erykah Badu who co-stars on the album's headlining single "Q.U.E.E.N.." www.vibe.com/article/janelle-mon%C3%A1e-reveals-collaborations-prince-and-miguel-new-album

It's alright. Definitely like "Q.U.E.E.N." better, but that one grew on me a lot so this one could too.
Actually, all of her stuff has to grow on me, really. None of it has been instant.

I really love "Q.U.E.E.N." and "Dance Apocalyptic." The videos are really good. Is that a negative reaction? Unless they are planning to push the current single and maybe another one when that one is done fairly hard, any buzz and hype that has been generated and built up will be over by then. The release date is basically 9-10 weeks away.

I was taking a look at the album's iTunes pre-order and Q.U.E.E.N is marked as "album only". Was it even released as a single to iTunes?
