Billy Currington was chosen because he is the only male that is doing anything worthwhile on Mercury's record label.

Another interesting topic is: Did Mercury force Shania to record this as a duet with a labelmate?

Hmm...probably. What label is Mark McGrath a part of? Sugar Ray's on Atlantic. I don't know if that's owned by Mercury or not. Not surprisingly, I love this song. I'm anxious to hear the Mark McGrath version, I think I'll prefer it to the Billy Currington one. Nothing totally new or earth-shattering, but I think you'd expect the new songs on a greatest hits album to fit in with the sound of the previous albums. If Shania's going to make a change in her sound, I would've been surprised for it to happen with these new songs.

Just different panels. The C1M ranks by spins only.

I had never heard of Billy before now, but I really like his voice.

Atlantic belongs to Warner Music Group I also think GH album is not the place for "new sound". But we'll see how the 2 other new songs will sound.

Debuts this week at #39 on Billboard.
The song is having big drops in audience and spins today, possibly to keep her from passing Kenny, or the label wants to hold it back a little until the official add date is here. Take your pick.

Not the official add date one, that was Tuesday. Oops... Well, that narrows it down, doesn't it? I guess radio is saying "Whoa, hold on there" then. Thanks for the correction. Here are the details I left out... Shania lost a million in audience overnight on the 1-25 Large Market chart. Total spins went from 250 to 215. On the main chart she lost 1.3 million impressions and 44 spins, dropping two positions to #30. The number of stations detecting dropped by 4 to 89.

Something happened, not sure what. 2 large market stations dropped the single, but also, it was so high on the charts b/c of the audience. Now, without the spins, the song is being put where it should be, somewhere in the upper 30 range (#35-#31)

Twain Gets 3rd Highest Debut of CareerIT TAKES 'TWO': Shania Twain has the third-highest debut of her career on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart , as "Party for Two" (Mercury), a duet with Billy Currington, opens at No. 39. The only Twain titles to debut higher are "Love Gets Me Every Time," which started at No. 29 the week of Oct. 4, 1997, and "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" which debuted at No. 24 the week of Oct. 19, 2002. "Party for Two" is a new track from Twain's forthcoming "Greatest Hits collection. There is an alternate version of the track, recorded with Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, the new co-host of the TV series "Extra." That means the track could soon be credited on the charts to Shania Twain with Billy Currington or Mark McGrath. www.billboard.com/bb/chartbeat/bonus.jsp

I'm not surprised. It's not very good on first listen. I'll probably just buy her first 2 albums eventually and not bother with the GH.

Well, it is not awful, so I think it will continue to do well. It may initially slow down after being added so rapidly.

It's just that it sounds tired. She really has to change her sound. All of her uptempo songs have sounded the same for two albums and 7 years now.

IMO this sounds more like something off of UP than COO. I really was hoping she would head back to 1995 and come out with stuff like the material on TWIM.

I think it's just because it rose so rapidly. Things should pick up after the weekend. But if you look at it, there are so many songs only up a few spins. 9/11 may have something to do with it.
