Sometimes I just don't get the charts. Last night, PFT had hundreds more spins and hundred-thousands more listeners and Worley passed. Now, this morning, her bullet has disappeared, plays dropped, and audience slashed. I'm not sure what's going on either, but I know that unless Shania gets at least 47 more spins by Tuesday, her bullet will be gone. She had a spike upward to 2300 spins a week ago Tuesday and today she's at 2254. The day after she reached 2300 she was back down to 2257, so it's been a bit of a roller-coaster ride lately. You can probably expect some significant overnight changes in her bullet for awhile until she resumes a steadier climb. I think giving Worley a position ahead of her is a result of the way Medibase/R&R give bigger stations more weight. Yes, nationally Shania's got more audience and more spins, but I think Worley's very high airplay at weight-heavy KPLX iin Dallas is the difference. They are playing Worley's song the most of any other stations, and he's #3 there with 1.382 million and 49 spins. In contrast, Shania isn't even in their Top 30. If you're a country artist that KPLX takes a shine to, you have a big leg up.... When they don't like you (and they don't like one of my favorite artists, so that's why I hate KPLX), they can screw you out of a few chart positions, easily. KPLX is one of the 800-pound gorillas of the R&R panel that labels and artists have to suck up to, or else. Nevermind if KPLX listeners actually would like to hear the song. They won't take songs by request if they have a grudge against the artist. I realize that's not unique, but because they have such influence over the R&R panel, it can and does have a definite effect on chart rankings. Maybe Billboard's method of just using spins is better after all, despite the way it can be manipulated to get songs to number one. On the plus side, Shania's audience numbers reached a peak of 20.081 yesterday (Sunday) and Monday's numbers are just 74,000 below that. That's not much of a one-day drop, really. I wouldn't categorize it as being 'slashed'. Party for Two has had a great rise upward so far and I'm guessing it has plenty of life left in it. This week's just a hiccup, I think. Update:KPLX strikes again... Today, #25 Pat Green has fewer spins, a smaller audience, and a MUCH smaller bullet than #26 Keith Urban, yet because Pat is #2 at KPLX with 1.3 million audience impressions, he's ranked ahead nationally. That's my theory, anyway. Here's a copy of a post I made in another thread, where I talked about station weightings... I've put together a text file that tries to explain the station weights a little more, and also it includes a list of stations sorted by station weight.
home.earthlink.net/~oceanblue831/shedaisy/station_weights.txt
The market ranking is misleading, because you can see on the list I provided that the station in the smallest radio market (WPCV in Lakeland) is actually ahead of many other stations in station weightings. This is because WPCV has more actual country music listeners per quarter-hour than many other country stations in larger radio markets. Despite it being in the smallest radio market, WPCV is tied for 23rd in point ranking, out of 47 different point values from KZLA's 10.0, all the way down to WCAT's .3.
What it boils down to is you want as many spins as possible in the stations near the top of the point-ranked list, since those spins carry more weight than those at stations in the lower ranks. Those weightings are involved in the overall R&R chart ranking formula. One spin at KZLA has ten times the point ranking as one spin at KDRK in Spokane.

In the topic that says the chart doesn't go solely by spins, I posted the station weightings from R&R a while ago but I didn't sort it like you did. My only complaints are that if two stations are tied for fifth, the next station should be seventh, not sixth; and if two stations are tied in weight values I think the tie should be broken by AQH, not market rank. I would use market rank as the second tiebreaker if AQH was tied.

Hmm, maybe this is a more serious dip than I thought. Today Shania is down 41 spins from yesterday, and her audience numbers are down 151,000 from yesterday.
Her bullet is gone: -86
Considering she's only been on the chart 9 weeks it's not normal to lose a bullet so soon.
On Billboard this week she moves from #15 to #14, with a small +18 bullet.

I'd be surprised, yet pleased if this song was indeed done on the charts. I like Shania, but not this song.

So is the song done or not? One day it has a slight drop, the next a slight gain. Personally I would love for this to crack the top 10 simply to rack another one up for Shania (and because I like the song.) I guess we'll see...

I know nothing's ever for sure, but IMO this song is far from over. She's going at least top 10.
She'll be #11 this week on R&R (#10 if she can somehow pass back Darryl Worley).

Worley's album is released this week, so the song will be played a lot.

So is the song done or not? One day it has a slight drop, the next a slight gain. Up and down cycles are very common. Check out this graph and you'll see... home.earthlink.net/~oceanblue831/shedaisy/graphs/all_spins2.gifShania's gained spins three days in a row, as of today (Friday, 11/5). You can get a closer look at the 7-day performance here... home.earthlink.net/~oceanblue831/shedaisy/graphs/top_spins_for_week.gifI update the graphs on most weekdays, but will probably stop doing it within a few weeks. Note: if the graphs look unreadable, Internet Explorer probably re-sized them to take up less screen space. To turn off the automatic re-sizing in IE... Click the Tools pulldown Click Internet Options... Click the Advanced tab Scroll down to the Multimedia section Uncheck 'Enable Automatic Image Resizing'

Top 10 today. I don't have BB numbers, but it should come in at #10 R&R. With the album out tomorrow, QVC, CBS Early Show, CMA Awards, etc., this song should fly for the next week or so. With one song falling out, my overall prediction is #6 b/c once the album hype is over, radio will realize they are sending a Shania song to #1 and pull it . Sure, I would love to see PFT be #1, I am just being realistic.

That comes out to 515,521! Not too bad, but I'm guessing #3, but it might hold better next week than Britney, who I'm guessing will drop to #4.

Love the country version of this song.
The pop version is lacking something! The heavy bass and shania's voice just don't will well with one another. Mark doesn't sound too good either.

The publicitiy finally payed off. "Party" should come in at #10 BB, #9 R&R. It will be the highest charter for Shania since "She's Not Just A Pretty Face", December 03.

This marks Shania's 16th Top 10 country hit.. The "Greatest Hits" comes in #1 country, #5 pop selling 200k units. Edit: Thanks musicmuse for correcting this.

"Party For Two" is Shania's 19th Top 10 radio single on the major charts. Even her label's press releases are incompetently error-filled... media has no clue and simply repeats the same mistakes.
Her "Hits" sold 232K... and there was no "publicity" last week and has been next to nothing for an artist of her stature. Her label did everything possible to knock her off #1 and promote other acts. No USA promo last week, they took her off caps and off sale (list price and above) at most every major chain and kept most every other new (and not so new) UMG country, pop, and rap CDs on sale under $10.

It defeats the purpose. GH albums should be gravy, allowing you to profit off of tracks you already bought and paid for. Spending a ton of money would be pointless.
