Amy Grant has a pretty decent sized AC hit in 2003 with “Simple Things.” Did that one creep into chr. If so, Grant would have been 43. "Simple Things" didn't chart on pop. Her last appearance on the pop chart was with "Takes A Little Time" in 1998, at age 37, making her ineligible for the list.

In addition to the previous page posts about Train, the Four Tops, and J Giels Band that need to be added (were the Moody Blues members added?). We have members of Bad Company. Bad Company’s final hit was in 1992.
The song “How About That” by Bad Company peaked at 19 on chr on 10/16/1992.
Simon Kirke (b. July 1949) was 43. Mick Ralphs (b. March 1994) was 48. Felix Krish (b. July 1951) was 41.
(Vocalist Brian Howe was Born July 1953, and was 39.)

Also, Australian Singer Daryl Braithwaite (b. Jan. 1949) reached 32 in June 1991 with “Higher Than Hope”. He was forty two years old.

Boston had their final chr Hit with “I Need Your Love” which reached 34 in June 1994.
Tom Scholz (b. March 1947) was 47. Gary Pihl (b. Nov. 1950) was 43.
Fran Cosmo and David Sikes were under forty. I cannot find a birth year for drummer at the time, Doug Huffman.
From the band RTZ (which featured two former Boston members), they had a hit reach 29 on June 26, 1992. Brad Delp (b. June 12, 1951) was 41. Barry Goudreau (b. Nov. 1951 was 41.

All of these samples/interpolations being credited make things way too complicated. Just off the top of my head, I can think of additional samples in “Back in Time”, “How I Feel”, “I Cry”, etc. that would apply. If R&H are being mentioned for “7 Rings”, might as well look at the writer credits of every single song, cause I’m sure there are more situations. Does this mean we have to credit the writers of Right Said Fred for “Look What You Made Me Do”? And Max Martin is 48, so there are direct songwriters that should be considered too. The rabbit hole can just keep getting deeper.
Why not just stick to credited artists (and members of bands) to keep it simpler?

Yeah, samples don’t really make sense to include on this unless the artist was directly involved in it, like Dobie Gray with Uncle Kracker.

I completely agree. “For The Love of Money” by The O’Jays uses lyrics from the book of Timothy. If we credited the Apostle Paul as the writer, he’d be over 2,000 years old. But once in a while when a singer’s voice is prominently sampled — Etta James is a perfect example — then it’s definitely worth a footnote. I can update these RTZ and Boston memebers when I’m back at work on Monday and have more free time.

No one ever seriously considered putting Rodgers and Hammerstein. That was just a person being an ass when I suggested that we should put Nile Rodgers for ‘Get Lucky.” The guy who wrote, produced and did the guitar work for the song and was in the video and most live performances. For whatever reason, Johnny decided not to create a note for Nile Rodgers, Who is alive and wrote one for R & H instead. Which is stupid, since even if they were not dead, they had nothing to do with the creation of the actual Ariana Grande recording. Rodgers, while uncredited, is the entire reason Get Lucky exists and sounds like it does. In fact, if I was him I would have sued to get credit.
Also, why are we ignoring all of the other acts I posted in between that and Boston?

These are now included:
Tom Scholz, 47 Gary Pihl, 43 Brad Delp, 41 Barry Goudreau, 41 Simon Kirke, 43 Mick Ralphs, 48 Felix Krish, 41 Stephen Bladd, 40 Abdul Duke Fakir, 52 Renaldo Benson, 52 Lawrence Payton, 50
Mark Ronson is still 43 but his song has changed to "Find U Again"
I had already added Daryl Braithwaite over 2 years ago
Anyone else?

Another footnote for uncredited vocals: -Lionel Richie was 61 when he provided uncredited vocals to Enrique Iglesias’ I Like It In 2010. He actually re-recorded the All Night Long ‘sample’ for the single.
Also, Clarence Clemons provided an uncredited solo saxophone in The Edge of Glory in 2011 when he was 69. It likely won’t be added to the list, as I don’t see Nile Rodgers either, but I still believe this type of special musical contribution is more relevant than the sample in 7 Rings (seriously ??!!!)

Added Lionel Richie as a footnote on Page 4.
Also included Aloe Blacc who turned 40 earlier this year and is credited on "SOS."

Franki Valli (b. May 1934) was forty four years old when he had a number one hit with “Grease” in late July 1978.

He's included on the master list on page 4 of this thread for the reentry of "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)" in 1994 when it was on the Forrest Gump soundtrack and he was 60.

BTW, Frankie wasn't 44 when "Grease" was recorded (he was 43)... If we want to track the age people were when songs were recorded, that info isn't always available and we'll end up going down another rabbit hole.

To me it should be when the song (a contemporary single) peaked. What age where they then. No re releases of songs from decades ago.

Just added 40-year-old Ryan Tedder who's charting with "Rescue Me," along with 48-year-old Kaskade, who coincidentally is also named Ryan, with "With You."

The 2002 re release was the first time the song was a hit. For Franki Valli the song was a hit in the seventies, and then (same recording) was a hit again. So there is a difference.

In 2000, "Can't Fight The Moonlight" charted on the Hot 100 and also hit #1 in the U.K. and Ireland so I don't think it's accurate to say 2002 was the first time the song was a hit.

It was the first time it was a major hit on chr. In the US. The Uk peak is not relevant as this list and discussion does not list the oldest acts who charted in the UK. We can change that, I suppose...but would be then inclined to include Hot 100 data?

If you use Hot 100 data, then you'd have to include artists like Brenda Lee (now 74 years old), Darlene Love (78), Ronnie Spector (75; 76 next week), and Jose Feliciano (almost 74) due to Christmas songs that recharted last December--not to mention deceased artists who would be 100+ now (Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Nat "King" Cole, Burl Ives, Gene Autry) whose holiday hits reappear each year.

Exactly, so there is no point in bringing up official UK data. This is just about chr/pop. So bringing up LeAnn Rimes charting in the UK isn’t relevant. What if Thirty years from now “Oh What A Night” is a hit record again? Or simply charts in the top 50 of chr pop...but every member is deceased. That is why I feel that a re release of a decades old song should not count.

Frankie Valli is 85 so 30 years from now, he almost certainly, will not be around and therefore, he would be listed under the Notes section. We have come to consensus on the criteria and everything has been carefully curated and documented consistently in detail. You are introducing concepts that are too fuzzy to develop clear guidelines around. Sorry.

I added Whitney Houston, along with a footnote, who would have just turned 56 a few days ago, while in the Top 50 on a remake of "Higher Love."
And Armin Van Buuren is 42.

Cool... but could you please esplain me why Whitney isn't listed below with others who charted posthumously, like Michael, Elvis, and John Lennon?

Thanks
