When "The Grease Megamix" charted in late 1996, John Travolta was 42 and Olivia Newton-John was 48. Christine McVie was 46 when Fleetwood Mac's "Save Me" went Top 40 (and she sang lead on it). In her solo career, she was 40 when both of her solo hits went Top 40 ("Got A Hold On Me" and then "Love Will Show Us How"). Including "Silver Springs" Christine would go up to 54. As long as we're including group members, the following oldsters performed on "We Are The World": 58 - Harry Belafonte 54 - Ray Charles 53 - Willie Nelson 47 - Waylon Jennings 44 - Bob Dylan Outside of USA For Africa, Willie Nelson turned 51 while "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" was charting in 1984 (and Julio Iglesias was 40 at the time).

Today Prince cracked the top 50 with Fallinlove2nite. If the song can hold in the top 50 until Sunday, he will be added to the list. At the age of 55, it will make him the 4th oldest solo artist on this list.

A couple more groups you can add to the list...
Red Hot Chili Peppers: As of their last pop chart appearance ("Dani California", 2006), frontman Anthony Kiedis was 44 and guitarist Flea was 45
R.E.M.: All three remaining members were over 40 when "The Great Beyond" charted in 2000. Guitarist Peter Buck was 43, bassist Mike Mills was 41, and frontman Michael Stipe turned 40 while the song was charting.

If so, Kiedis was 48 or 49 (depending on when it entered the Top 50), Flea was 49, and Chad Smith was 50.

Cher could be making more history if she would release a single to CHR with this album.

CHER did enter the Billboard Bubbling under chart in 2013 at age 67 with Woman's World. I know that is not CHR. She is currently on the Billboard AC Chart with I Hope You Find It at age 68 but of course that is not CHR.
To Bubble Under is nearly impossible for an older artist especially a female artist. Agesism and Sexism are rampant in the music biz. Just getting on that Bubbling Under Chart with Woman's World was impressive.

Sometimes I ask myself if it's age or money that older artists don't really get any hit's? Maybe they make more money off of recordings and labels don't want to invest so they put all their money in newer artists.

Also, it's more difficult for older artists to score hits so writers/producers give their best material to younger acts.

Carly Simon was 41 when "Coming Around Again" charted. And she was 56 when she was featured on Janet's "Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)", which sampled her hit "You're So Vain".

Steve Miller was 49 in 1993 when "Ride River" was charting. I imagine his fellow band members were around the same age.

Not sure how you're counting groups, but every member of No Doubt was over 40 when "Settle Down" went top 40 in 2012. The youngest of the bunch was Tony, 42, and the oldest was Tom, 44. Also, Mariah might have been 44 as her birth year has been disputed. I say just count Gwen or something. She charted as a solo artist as well. If "Baby Don't Lie" hits the Top 40, Gwen will be 45.
