Without further adieu, the all-time leaders of the Streaming Songs chart. In the entire history of this chart no song has been able to stay on for more than 20 weeks. The following songs are the all-time leaders: Gangnam Style, PSY Thrift Shop, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Wanz Radioactive, Imagine Dragons Sail, AWOLNATION F**kin Problems, A$AP Rocky Featuring Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen Scream & Shout, will.i.am & Britney Spears Good example of your point, but I don't think anyone misunderstood it in the first place. I think the point people are trying to make is that, no matter how you phrase any given record, unless you add a lot of awkward modifiers, those with no knowledge of the chart will need further clarification. To be more specific, using the example of top digital sellers that seemed to spark this discussion: a) If you specify a list is the top digital sellers of all-time, someone with no knowledge might not know the time frame in which digital sales have been reliably tracked to realize just how limited "all time" is. b) On the flip side, if you specify the top digital sellers since 2005, someone with no knowledge of the subject would wonder why you chose that cutoff point and would still require additional information to realize 2005's relevance to digital sales. Therefore, without giving a sufficiently accurate yet awkward title such as "Best digital seller since the chart's inception in 2005", either label leaves room for misinterpretation amongst the uninformed, and therefore neither is inherently more accurate or less misleading than the other.

Sounds good to me.
It is just a personal opinion that describing something that is still fairly new in terms of "all time" seems a little awkward.
Anyway, Now that I think about it a better name for the Best Sellers since 2005 thread that I started probably could be 'Best Sellers of the Digital Era'

Also, iirc the hits from Justin Bieber's Believe era have followed the same pattern.. 'Boyfriend' sold less than 'As Long As You Love Me' in the end. Nope. “Boyfriend” was at 3,216,000 in January and “As Long As You Love Me” at 2,240,000. Oops, oh dear. Maybe I was thinking about ALAYLM and Beauty and the Beat.

2.195 million - Carrie Underwood - Blown Away (13k - #141) And for those wondering, this actually increased against the Moore, OK tornado. Not surprised at all, actually. The same thing happened during Hurricane Sandy back in October. Granted, that was still in the song's prime, but it's still the same kind of scenario.

It is correct to say "of all time" when talking about digital-track sales- but, people should keep in mind the start of the digital era. Same with highest such-and-such sales- in the SoundScan era, of course. :) Without further adieu, the all-time leaders of the Streaming Songs chart. You're leaving without saying goodbye? :(

"We Are Never Ever..." is #113 in the top 200 best selling digital songs of ALL-TIME (and in upcoming months it'll probably enter top 100) so those are not "pretty low" sales at all, I mean, the song was #1 Hot 100 for 3 weeks and #2 on CHR so I'd say it sold well.

Just seemed like an average hit (which is wierd to qualify, I know) to me. It didn't 'spark' any dance craze, catch phrase, video moment or anything like that.

Without the "Complete My Album" effect from iTunes, the song would technically already be a 4 million seller.

Some of my friends say we are never getting back together like ever too and I don't think some of them even know it comes from Taylor Swift lol. I find myself saying it too even though I didn't really like the song that much.

I think everyone has a story like that connected to WANEGBT. My friends didn't/don't (idk which one) like the song, but love to come up with Taylor lyrics in unexpected situations. That's a big thing if you know she was non existent in Europe before the Red era. It did a great impact both in US and the whole of Europe that can't be taken away from her. BUT: You can't expect a song like that to sell like IGF. It simply can't connect with such big demography. 3,6M (4M is passable) is great especially when I had doubts about 3M right before the holiday boost, but it just sold relatively well again. IKYWT is probably less annoying to half of the people and it also made an impact here thanks to... THE GOAT VIDEOS!!! Yes. They're still hilarious and ironically helped her a lot. My friends started watching to the original video and listening to the song.

There is something to be said for a song that moves as many albums as it does singles. I think Red being all but certain to cross 4 million sold in the next 10 or 11 months (or less) more than makes up for its lead single not quite getting there.

My friends are always like "Taylor who?" so... Same here, but I'm black so I'm sure she doesn't have much impact on that demo. But I think for a song to truly make a cultural impact it needs to kinda cross into all demo's. Like I'm sure there are people who do not listen to Beyonce but they know of Single Ladies and that video. Same scenario with Madonna and Like A Prayer. Those are songs that made a cultural impact. I just don't see it with WANEGBT.

Taylor Swift is massively successful but I have yet to see her make a truly significant impact on the cultural front. That's not to trivialize what she's accomplished at all but I don't think Taylor Swift quite DEFINES an era of pop culture like Gaga, Britney, Madonna, MJ etc did.

#beautiful update rise !
as for taylor's song the only impact it made in my circle of friends is to switch the channel, a song to have a huge impact has to actually be a song that reaches just beyond pop. Example of this is Vogue even those who live in huts, igloos know that song, that's impact this is just another hit.

Single Ladies, Vogue, sure. Has Gaga had any song that reached beyond the sphere of music? She alternates between fun dance videos and overlong wanting-to-be-important videos, but I don't remember any of them sparking a craze. Gaga herself has reached beyond the sphere of music. Plus there's a little song called "Bad Romance."

Probably not the fairest situation to try to make apples-to-apples comparisons between watershed moments from verified legends and the biggest hits from today's current stars (no matter how large their impact, many simply cannot see the Gagas and Rihannas of now in the same context as Madonna or Mariah, and that is understandable).

I would say Gaga is probably one of the best examples of a musical artist reaching beyond the sphere of music in recent history. I feel like even people in huts have seen Bad Romance or talked about her meat dress

And if not, I feel like people are aware of who she is even if they don't know the specifics. She's had involvement in many non-music things that have included politics. Plus, her musican attributions covers a wide variety of genres.
