Zebra's Top 100 - January 18, 2015 - Week 86, Week 3 - Repost

Commentary:

"Froot" and "Shut Up and Dance" swap positions this week, thus allowing "Froot" to become my 3rd number 1 of 2015. "Froot" is Marina's 3rd number 1 after "Primadonna" and "Power & Control". "Sledgehammer" jumps from 5 to 3 and thus leapfrogs "Uptown Funk", which holds at number 4. "Wrapped Up" jumps from 7 to 5. It's a strong contender for number 1. "Night Changes" slides from 3 to 7. Four songs enter the top ten this week! Lykke Li's "Gunshot" leads the pack as it advances from 13 to 6. Keith Urban manages to inch from 11 to 8 with "Somewhere In My Car" (mainly because I'm trying to phase older songs out - more on that later). Ellie Goulding blasts from 53 to 9 with "Love Me Like You Do" while Kelly Clarkson debuts at number 10 with "Heartbeat Song". Both will most likely be huge hits. Definitely an exciting top ten.

It's also a fairly strong week for debuts. Clarkson's "Heartbeat Song" is the highest entry at number 10, but several others manage to make lofty debuts also. Charli XCX debuts at number 21 with "Doing It" (without Rita Ora), Saint Motel debuts at number 26 with "My Type", Beyonce debuts at number 61 with "Mine" (her 9th entry from her latest album), Sia debuts with "Elastic Heart" at number 65, Mickey Guyton debuts with "Better Than You Left Me" at number 95, Prince Royce debuts at number 98 with "Stuck On A Feeling", and BANKS debuts at number 99 with "This Is What It Feels Like". 

If you see a ton of older songs racing up ("Somewhere In My Car", "Global Concepts", "Yung Rapunxel", etc.), it's because I'm trying to purge them, haha. Need to make room for everything else. 

"Habits" watch: "Habits" slips from 68 to 84 in it's 54th week.

"Froot" = I love "Oh No!", "Primadonna" (a No. 1 Paulboard smash), and "How To Be A Heartbreaker"...and while "Froot" doesn't hit me quite as hard as those prior singles of hers on first listen, it's not bad. interesting. your last No. 1 was definitely more instant. and is that really the official video? dulltastic, sheesh ~

"Love Me Like You Do" = fantastic jump for this one! I'm still playing it quite a lot, and it was really great to see it crack the Top 40 on the latest Hot 100. I was surprised to read that it's produced by Max Martin - it definitely has a great hook, like his stuff is known for, but I guess I've always associated him with uptempos

"Heartbeat Song" = wasn't expecting to see this debut so high! are you a pretty big Kelly Clarkson fan? I've been feeling pretty underwhelmed by it so far, but maybe the video will change my mind? or it'll be like the Stronger and Greatest Hits: Chapter One eras, where I ended up loving the second single more than the first

"Style" + "Lips Are Movin'" = I realize that the first of these two is currently much higher, but I'd like to see both of them move a lot faster. maybe they can leap right into your next Top 10...? ;) **fingers crossed**

"Mine" = soOoOoOoOo random to see this debuting now, but I'm glad that it's getting some attention. one of several satisfying moments on your No. 1 album of 2014

"Talking Body" = woah, so the follow-up to your No. 1 song of 2014 is going to end up peaking at No. 69? I've actually just started getting into this, so I'd love to see it get a second wind on your chart

I feel like I've missed a week, so if I have sorry and if I haven't you can retroactively ignore this sentence.

Just getting into the SBTRKT single, probably will at least Bubble Under next week! Happy Idiot's so close to the Top 50, hope it can make an appearance. Uptown Funk seems like it's stalled out a bit but I hope it can push to Top 3. Also the 14-15 streak of Robert DeLong and Arctic Monkeys is killer.

Creedence Clearwater Revival has always been one of thsoe bands that I loved but that I just don't listen to often enough (I should fix that), but I heard "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" while out one day and I sort of went on a CCR kick, haha. "Back To Life" is perfect imo. Glad you like "Froot" also. Thanks for the feedback, Konami!

Re: "Froot" - Twins! "Primadonna" was a no. 1 on mine also. "Froot" took a while to really grow on me. I had the same impression at first. I believe that it was just the audio, but I could be mistaken. The actual video wasn't that impressive anyways.

Re: "Love Me Like You Do" - Even better seeing it crack the top 20! It's one of my favorite Max Martin productions.
Re: "Heartbeat Song" - I would say so, yes. I don't visit her work as often as say Bey or Lana, but I do love a good Kelly tune (so most of them, haha). "HS" was actually pretty instant for me whereas everything from Stronger and Greatest Hits took a while to grow on me.

Re: "Mine" - Random, but I guess I'm just not ready to let the album go yet? No clue lol. Truth be told there's two more songs that I love enough to chart but I may hold off on those. Definitely a satisfying moment.
Re: "Talking Body" - That peak seems fitting, no? ;) It'll probably rise and at least make top 50. "Not On Drugs" only peaked at no. 33 (shamefully). Idk why Tove has had such limited success outside of "Habits". Maybe "Habits" just pulled a reverse "Dark Horse" and killed everything else from this era

Zebra's Top 100 - January 25, 2015 - Week 87, Week 4

Commentary:

Jessie Ware earns her first no. 1 (and first top ten!) this week as "Say You Love Me" leaps from 12 to 1. It becomes the 4th no. 1 of 2015. Olly Murs advances from 5 to 2 with "Wrapped Up". Given the competitive nature of my chart as of late, I think it'll peak there. "Froot" tumbles from 1 to 3. "Uptown Funk" is steady at no. 4. It'll likely peak within the next week or two. "Shut Up and Dance" recedes from 2 to 5. "Gunshot" holds at no. 6 while "Sledgehammer" falls from 3 to 7. Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" advances from 9 to 8. It's looking like my next no. 1. "Heartbeat Song" likewise increases from 10 to 9. Ingrid Michaelson inches from 11 to 10 with "Afterlife". This gives Michaelson her first top ten hit. 

Eleven songs debut this week. The highest comes from Rihanna and co. at no. 23 with "FourFiveSeconds". It becomes her first entry since "Jump" briefly dented the lower regions of my then top 50 around this time last year. Rihanna has previously hit no. 1 with "Love The Way You Lie", "Only Girl (In The World)", "We Found Love", "Where Have You Been", and "Diamonds". Can her latest become her 6th no. 1? We'll see. The rest of this week's debuts are all below no. 80. Philip George leads the pack with "Wish You Were Mine", which debuts at no. 81. "Truffle Butter" debuts at no. 87, "Electric Love" debuts at no. 89, "I'm An Albatroaz" debuts at no. 94, "I Bet" debuts at no. 95, "All Of You" debuts at no. 96, "Little Red Wagon" debuts at no. 97, "Love 'Em All" debuts at no. 98, "St. Patrick" debuts at no. 99, and "Our Love" debuts at no. 100.

"Habits" watch: "Habits" jumps from 84 to 79 in its 55th week. When will it drop off? I'm not certain. I still love it as much as I did when I first heard it.  

Bubbling Under Highlights: New section that I hope to update most weeks. In this section I'll highlight what songs are most likely to chart the next week. The most likely debuts next week? Little Big Town's "Girl Crush", Omi's "Cheerleader", Wet's "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl", Broods's "Four Walls", Smallpools's "Karaoke", Lee Ann Womack's "Send It On Down", and Dierks Bentley's "Say You Do".

Ellie hits no. 1 and Kelly keeps rising! "Style" also makes the top ten. Literally all of those country songs make really great moves this week + several others make an impact. Zebra's Top 100 - February 1, 2015 - Week 88, Week 5



Commentary:

"Love Me Like You Do" becomes Ellie's 4th no. 1 this week as it jumps from 8 to 1. She's previously reached the summit with "Lights" (one of the biggest hits ever), "I Need Your Love", and "Figure 8". "Say You Love Me" falls from 1 to 2 after only one week on top. I wish it could've spent more time there, but honestly the chart is far too competitive right now for anyone to hold on to the top for too long. "Uptown Funk" inches from 4 to 3, and it'll likely peak next week. "Gunshot" jumps from 6 to 4. "Froot" slips from 3 to 5 and "Wrapped Up" likewise slips from 2 to 6. "Heartbeat Song" moves from 9 to 7. "Shut Up and Dance" dips from 5 to 8. "Style" becomes Taylor's 3rd top ten hit from 1989 as it moves from 17 to 9. "Doing It" wraps up the top ten as it inches from 13 to 10. It becomes Charli's 3rd top ten hit. 

11 songs debut this week, with most of them being country songs. Country songs just has an amazing week in general. Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" debuts at no. 16, becoming the second highest debut of the year (behind "Heartbeat Song"). Jana Kramer has a lofty debut with "I Got The Boy" at no. 36. Elsewhere, Keith Urban and Eric Church debut at no. 53 with "Raise 'Em Up", Dierks Bentley re-enters at no. 59 with "Say You Do", Maddie & Tae debuts at no. 66 with "Fly", Bleachers debut at no. 67 with "Like A River Runs", Wet debuts with "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl" at no. 81, Omi debuts with "Cheerleader" at no. 86, Lee Ann Womack debuts at no. 94 with "Send It On Down", the Zac Brown Band debuts at no. 98 with "Homegrown", and CHVRCHES debuts at no. 99 with  "Get Away".

"Habits" watch: "Habits" falls from 79 to 83 in its 56th week. 

Bubbling Under watch: "Talladega" will most likely debut next week. The rest of this group have mixed chances of charting.

Recurrents watch: The recurrents section re-expands to 40 songs this week as I've been listening to so much older music lately. Missy Elliott tops the list with "Lose Control". It is fueled by her Super Bowl performance. This is one of my favorite recurrent weeks thus far.
