Zebra's Top 100 - March 15, 2015 - Week 94, Week 12 (Repost)

Commentary:

Carly Rae Jepsen earns her first chart topper this week as "I Really Like You" jumps from 10-1 in its 3rd week. "Girl Crush" dips from 1-2. "FourFiveSeconds" and "What We Ain't Got" hold at numbers 3 and 4, respectively. "Style" falls from 2-5. "Little Toy Guns", "Lifted Up (1985)", and "What Kind Of Man" each advance one position each, landing at numbers 6, 7, and 8, respectively. "My Type" tumbles from 5-9 while "Electric Love" inches from 11-10. 

Six songs enter this week. Two of those (the highest two) come from Kelly Clarkson. Kelly doesn't debut with current single "Invincible" but instead with two album tracks that I've really been loving over the past week. "Let Your Tears Fall" roars in at number 24 and "Good Goes the Bye" debuts at number 67. Look for "Piece By Piece" to follow suit in the coming weeks. Madonna manages to debut with newly announced 2nd single "Ghosttown" at number 74. James Bay finally debuts with "Hold Back the River" at number 95. Mumford & Sons debut with "Believe" at number 99. Despite releasing other singles from Babel, this is their 1st charting entry since "I Will Wait". I suppose I just never paid much attention to the others. Expect big things for "Believe". The final debut comes from In the Valley Below's "Peaches" at number 100. 

Bubbling Under: Umm so this section gets messier each week. Several of these will debut next week. 

Recurrents: I haven't listened to Rebel Heart in its entirety yet, but I did get nostalgic for older Madonna so she rules this week.

"Let Your Tears Fall" = it's wonderful to see any PBP album tracks debut, but this particular song would fall somewhere in the middle of my album ranking right now - not one of my favorites ("War Paint", "Piece By Piece", GGTB), but not one of the ones I tend to skip over either ("Run Run Run", "I Had A Dream", "Tightrope".) looks like it was the most instant one for you, though - and not a bad pick by any means!

"Sugar" = Top 30 = awesome. any thoughts on the Nicki remix? would it chart separately, or have its points combined with the original?

"Talking Body" = Top 40 at laaaaaaast - 14 weeks into its run, and several (can't remember exactly how many) weeks after "Habits" finally exited your chart

"King" = I just checked this one out yesterday, and I'm pretty into it! not No. 1-worthy-hooked, but it should certainly appear somewhere on my next chart

"Ghosttown" = nice to see a Madonna track enter, just as LFL drops out. might any other Rebel Heart tracks crash your next chart? it's also lovely to see her dominating your recurrent chart, especially with all those 80's classics <3

If you do check it out let me know what you think! It doesn't really sound like "Call Me Maybe" so that's a plus. It does continue! Vintage Madonna = best Madonna, lbr. ;) "Talking Body" is definitely fantastic and its chorus is perfect. "Habits" still slays though. Thanks Indie! <3

Zebra's Top 100 - March 22, 2015 - Week 95, Week 13



Commentary:

"I Really Like You" manages to hold on to the top spot for a 2nd week. She was almost supplanted by "Pray To God", which notably enters the top ten this week as it jumps 12-2. It automatically becomes HAIM's highest charting entry ("Falling" had previously peaked at no. 5) and Calvin's highest since "Blame" also peaked in the runner-up slot. "Girl Crush" slides from 2 to 3 but remains the highest charting country song. That won't be the case next week, however, as Carrie Underwood jumps from 6-4 with "Little Toy Guns". Passion Pit likewise moves from 7-5 with "Lifted Up (1985)". At the moment it's looking to be a strong contender for the next number one. "Electric Love" moves from 10-6. Rihanna and co. finally fall from their no. 3 peak as "FourFiveSeconds" tumbles from 3-7. "What Kind Of Man" holds steady at no. 8. "What We Ain't Got" also drops from 4-9. It should have a rather slow descent down the chart though, as I'm still not sick of it. Tori Kelly scores her 1st top ten as "Nobody Love" moves from 13-10. It should be a rather large hit. 

Look for "Lay Low" (no. 14), "I Got the Boy" (no. 15), "Chains" (no. 16), "Shots" (no. 17), "Better Than You Left Me" (no. 18), and "Talking Body" (no. 29) to compete for a spot in the top ten as early as next week. Notable moves this week come from "Sugar" (29-23), "Wish You Were Mine" (30-26), "Biscuits" (35-30), "The Rhythm" (80-36), "Don't Wanna Fight" (53-45), "Paper Light (Higher)" (52-48), "Believe" (99-50; the greatest gainer), "Desire" (70-56), and "Hold Back the River" (95-73).

Eight songs debut this week. The highest debut is courtesy of Juan Carlos, as one of his selections for the March Madness tournament comes out on top. The entry? "Feels Like" by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Anna Lunoe at no. 61. It is the 1st charting entry for both artists. Marina & the Diamonds scores the 2nd highest debut at no. 74 with "I'm A Ruin". Marina is closely followed by Of Monsters and Men at no. 75 with "Crystals". This year is really reminding me of 2012 with all of the artists that were huge that year coming back in force lol. "Cecelia and the Satellite" debuts at no. 91. "Psycho" debuts at no. 93, becoming Muse's 1st chart entry since "Madness". I almost charted "Panic Station" though. Ariana Grande finally escapes from the bubbling under section and debuts at no. 97 with "One Last Time". I doubt that it'll have the chart success of its predecessors ("Problem" peaked at no. 1, "Bang Bang" at no. 4, "Break Free" at no. 8, and "Love Me Harder" at no. 1) but who knows haha. Kelly Clarkson debuts with "Piece By Piece" at no. 98, which causes it to become her 4th chart entry from Piece By Piece. "On To Something Good" is the final debut at no. 99.

"I Really Like You" = MULTI-WEEK No. 1 smash? you're totally out-stanning me on this one, and I totally love you for it!

"Little Toy Guns": I just got around to checking this out for the first time, and it's nice enough (well, depressing, really), but definitely not a patch on SITW (which was a No. 1 Paulboard hit)

"Sugar": ha, well, just like the Hot 100, looks like the Nicki remix won't be helping this much here either. **fingers crossed** it can at least crack the Top 20!

"Biscuits": finally checked this out, and as you saw, I LOVE it! it does sound very familiar to FYA, and has a pretty similar theme/message too...but I guess lightning CAN strike twice? that said, this probably won't become my No. 1 hit of 2015, but it's still another delightful ditty courtesy of Kacey

"Truffle Butter": so I honestly thought this was referring to some kind of expensive butter (like...for lobster...at really fancy restaurants?), but a friend finally explained what they're actually referring to...and I think it made me like this a bit more? I've got a new appreciation for it, at any rate

"Ghosttown" = Top 70 smash = awesome, but I'm sad to see that NOTHING else from Rebel Heart will be charting. Pulse can be so cruel to Madonna :'( and you even lied about her continuing to dominate your Recurrent chart!

"Shut Up And Dance": way to have been WAY ahead of the crowd on this one! it's definitely a pleasant surprise to see this just NOW really blow up on iTunes/Hot 100/etc.

Ok, coming back to really comment. 

“One Last Time” finally gets that debut! Its starting to wear out on me but glad to see it chart for you. SO happy to see “Cecilia and the Satellite” debut!   I’m hoping it does really well for you.

 Glad to see you debut the new Of Monsters & Men – I expect that to debut for me next week. Apparently I skipped over “Hold Back The River” last week but want to say that I’m glad to see you charting it! Nice increase this week.

Yes at “Feels Like” debuting! Dinosaurs are always on point. Is this releasing again somewhere?

Ok just look at “Believe” go! :o  Great new sound for Mumford.  Side note: My poor Karen Harding is just in a rut lately. Oh and speaking of soaring though – “The Rhythm”!

Florence and Passion Pit are still doing good – nice to see them in the top 10. I know people really like that Carly Rae song but I’m so hoping she won’t block Calvin and “Pray To God”, especially after its move this week – come on Zebra – you can do it!
