In order to debut in the Top 10 (or debut at #1 which is highly unlikely at this point) the artist, and more importantly the label, MUST create an onslaught on every outlet that first week:
CC deal (possibly for multiple days) iTunes front page promotion (starting on Monday) Available to stream starting Day 1 Facebook promotion Lyric video
that's the way to a #1 debut.

First time looking at the chart I thought "Ho Hey" went recurrent. I was happy, but then saw it's up from last week. DIE!!! It started picking up in airplay again... damn.

Macklemore might be able to occupy all 3 top spots on the hot rap chart joining 50 cent and drake, TS is at 19 right now while J coles power trip is at 21 and gaining, same love gained to 33 this week but do you guys think same love has a chance to enter top 20 next week passing j cole and TS also beating PT

Am I reading that right? Are there NO EDM dance tracks in the top 20?
If that's true, is EDM officially dead and Retro now in?

It depends on what you classify these as: 8 8 7 10 Come & Get It, Selena Gomez 6 10 10 9 20 I Love It, Icona Pop Featuring Charli XCX 7 14 24 29 13 Clarity, Zedd Featuring Foxes 14
All three are definitely dance influenced, so dance pop isn't dead, but I don't know about EDM.

Yeah, it's a bit of a tough call. Dance pop is still chugging along and will be for a while. It's just that the heavy EDM sound from the last two years seems to have disappeared. I'm loving the retro aesthetics of a lot of the new songs. Not decade specific but a lot of throwback influences to various eras. "Get Lucky" to the Disco era, "Blurred Lines" to melodic 70's funk, "Mirrors" to mid-Noughties Timberland, that Ariana Grande track which is clearly early 2000s Hip Pop and finally that Mariah/Miguel track with that almost 60's throwback feel.
Music is getting dynamically rhythmic again.

EDM was never big. Actual EDM is getting more popular, the generic dance pop is becoming much less popular.

I Love It and Clarity are definitely dance-pop, but I wouldn't say Come & Get It is. It has a lot of synths, but is definitely more rhythmic imo, the beat is more like Black and Yellow or Talk That Talk, rather than a 4/4 "house" beat like dance-pop songs have. Infact, the beat to Come & Get It basically has the same rhythm as Mesmerize by Ja Rule/Ashanti (if anybody remembers that). Macklemore might be able to occupy all 3 top spots on the hot rap chart joining 50 cent and drake, TS is at 19 right now while J coles power trip is at 21 and gaining, same love gained to 33 this week but do you guys think same love has a chance to enter top 20 next week passing j cole and TS also beating PT That would be amazing, but I'm expecting Power Trip to get a boost in On-Demand streaming due to the album release, so Same Love might not overtake it, and even if it does, there's a chance of Power Trip overtaking Thrift Shop. I really wish Power Trip could go top 10. :( It's one of my most-listened to songs this year, it's such a nice piece of music.

It would have got him a role in the Abbey Road sessions that followed and rock immortality that went with it for being tied to the beatles last album

I wouldn't say "Clarity" is dance-pop. What is it then? Clarity seems to be in the group of more "serious" sounding electronic songs that have been coming out lately. Along with other recent songs such as Sweet Nothing, Don't You Worry Child, Alive, I Need Your Love, etc. They seem to have more lyrical depth and a different overall sound than your average Rihanna or Kesha song. Not sure if that's what he was hinting at, but it's something I've noticed.

To me, it's all dance pop. It's a song with influence of dance and pop. Dance pop. I absolutely hate to classify songs into genres as it is. Breaking it down to nitpicking stuff such as EDM or electropop or alternative dance pop sub-ska just gets too confusing and absolutely pointless, imo.

I think it's interesting. It helps you to better see how music is changing and evolving imo. Plus if you generalize too much, you'll just be left with pop and rock, maybe hip hop. Where's the fun in that? But yeah, I'd still call them dance-pop overall. But a different sub genre. Or sub-sub-genre

EDM was never big. Actual EDM is getting more popular, the generic dance pop is becoming much less popular. oh absolutely. EDC is a humungous empire right now across the country. Plus all the other dozens of festivals going on. EDC Vegas last year attracted like 200,000 people. The rave/EDM scene is no longer underground, as in warehouses and basement parties, it's commercialized now. Attendance is definitely up. I want to go to EDC in Orlando this coming November, cuz Daft Punk will be there, and it's only 45 min away.
