WOW ... at this pace she will be right in the Top5 in no time. "Roar" is like a storm, in a hurry to reach #1. But after it will reach the top, how much time will stay there. Interesting to see if she will drop the second single before the album release. Overall 17. KATY PERRY – Roar: 69.645 (+ 10.727) I just can't at these numbers for this song

I'm in no way dimisnishing what this song is doing, it is beyond what anyone hoped. But it's clear that radio was craving a mega star. Radio had been lacking thier darling laides for most of the year.

Katy and Capitol struck gold by releasing first with a slew of pop stars still to follow.

I have decided this song is about a woman experiencing her first orgasm with a new guy after her first boyfriend raped her. The lyrics are vague enough for me to interpret that.

Yes, bc during Teenage Dream we watched in awe as every single was posting massive updates that no other artist could maintain single after single after single. It continues. Radio LOVES this woman

I'm waiting for that 1000+ update on Pop.

I'm waiting for that 1000+ update on Pop. Tomorrow's the last chance for that. Sunday will be going against ~300/400 or whatever spins from the week prior, and I doubt it's going to jump high enough to get 1000 new spins. Still probably +800 or something, but not quite 1000. 1000 is definitely possible tomorrow, though.

Countries in red have Roar ahead of Applause, Green countries have Applause ahead of Roar. I might be gloating a bit, but look at how the situation has changed in two days (see my post a few pages back). Europe is the main area where Gaga holds an advantage anymore and even that advantage is not as significant as it was.

The update should normalize for Roar starting Sunday(probably +500 or around there) and there will be around a -200 to -300 update on Monday and +100 to +300 after Monday next week.

"Roar" hasn't been released in the UK yet so of course "Applause" would be higher there. Katy really seems to be owning the Anglo markets (US, Canada, Oz, NZ) and I do believe she'd do better than Gaga in the UK at this time too.
Germany choosing Katy over Gaga, however, really surprises me.

Yeah, except for that part. I mean, she goes up an octave at the end, but it's not a key change.

Now I'm listening to it again and...she doesn't even octave up, does she? She goes up a couple steps above the melody from time to time, but isn't it still the same octave? lol I know I'm nitpicking; just kind of curious.

No. It's still the same note, just higher. Or lower. It could be accompanied by a key change, sure, but an octave change itself isn't a key change.

Sorry, just annoyed at the pop bars. Blurred Lines can die already (I'm probably the only person in this whole world who doesn't find that song enjoyable at all)

There's no key change. She's just doing standard adlibbing. The notes aren't an octave higher either.

wow Robin is really coming back hard on iTunes. Guess its the norm for brand new songs (even from from A-list singers) to stabilize but I'm amazed that a 3+ month old song is still on serious fire and may reclaim #1 (or close to it) from a brand new song from one of, if not the hottest female singers. Looks like she clearly got the bulk of her sales mainly those first few days. I think it's all gonna come down to a few factors: if Robin starts to plummet on radio anytime soon (unlikely) though he may peak and/or get negative updates but I don't think the drops are gonna be huge anytime soon; also, once her video comes out that (along with continued strong airplay) 'should' give her the streaming and video view points to take her to #1. But Blurred Lines is *still* so massive dunno how quickly this will all happen.
