Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but this entered the singles charts in New Zealand at #1.
It is her 9th 1 there, making her the artist with the second most #1s in the country, pulling her ahead of Michael Jackson. Only The Beatles have had more #1s than her with 15.

I wonder what will be the fate of this song. It can turn into a "California Gurls" (#1 for weeks on Hot 100 and all components, 5x platinum and high airplay) or "Part Of Me" (reaching #1 thanks to downloads, getting high audience number out of gate then failing to reach #1 on pop and top 3 on Airplay, but this time reaching 3x platinum). I prefer the first one, and even if it's too early to tell I think it will turn into a CG (less iconic obvs).

I really like this song. It's better than applause, at least on the first listen.

I have never really followed charts for any high profile lead single... so this is just wow... top 15 in its first week.

This is probably the second biggest start for a song behind Born This Way, that went top 5 first week or something crazy like that iirc.

Generally the songs that start their airplay that strong struggled to get number one on pop, and that's if they have luck (Born this way was top 10 in the first seven days but it had a very rough time reaching the top). California girls had a lot more natural way to the top, big constant updates but not that enormous. It's the burn rate the one who'll dictate where this song will end. If the burn rate is low it probably will get several weeks at number one and a long run, if it's high, it will be top 5 and it will drop like a stone

It reached top 5 in the first seven days, but that wasn't the official update. And it lost a lot of spins in its 8 day

good for Katy, but like others said, since the reaction to the song has mainly been mixed (more positive than negative compared to Applause) it's hard to tell w/ this one. It could end up one a few scenerios. While the 1st week #s are great, I think it had an extra day of sales compared to the usual sales week? May be a front loaded sales situation (as it's been constantly getting red bar updates on iTunes since early in the week), but I think the airplay and streaming will make up for it in the long run. Radio REALLY loves Katy but dunno in a weeks times if they'll be showing the love like are now- esp. if the song doesn't stay fresh (has a fast burnout rate). CG- at least in my opinion- was way more instant and universally loved which was why (even if it didn't get initial #s like Roar), got consistently strong updates across the board. Two VERY different kinds of songs.

Yeah. Had its first seven days been the one-week tracking period, it would have debuted at #5. It dropped to 6 on day 8. Its chart run was 19-6-5-4-3-2-1.

So in the first week, the spin + is equal to the number of spins a day the song gets, right? 8/11: 1501 (CC Deal) 8/12: 840 8/13: 741 8/14: 799 8/15: 936 8/16: 943 So after the deal, spins decreased for two days before rebounding. The last update showed at +7 spin increase from the day before (to put into perspective, if a song gained +7 a day for a week, it would get at +49 update. The 8th day effect is looking like something around -500 or more. After that, we would get something around a +100, then a +200 update, though hopefully more, if it increases at more the +7 a day.

She got 553 that day, I think. If so, we can expect something around +400.
Edit: It had 338, so more like +600.

The 338 was just a mock-up backed on incomplete data added up from AllAccess, since it wasn't top 50 in the Sunday morning update when it hit the chart. It was #49 with 553 spins in the final update after recurrents/purges were removed.
