Do you know if the previous release date column matches soundscan, or I'm assuming HITS has their own cumulative total? SoundScan totals. I just asked my friend for a NRS. The guy who gave them to him quit. Does anyone have a friend at Sony??

Have there been any updated projections for upcoming releases?
I would think Eminem would have the biggest release before the end of the year, but One Direction may be a close second? I see their album has been on the top 10 on the iTunes chart for the past several days and its still a month until the release.

^In the latest issue of Billboard, there are a bunch of label expectations.
I don't have access to BB this week.
Eminem's label is expecting 750k.

HITS:
What superstar is releasing a late-fourth-quarter album exclusively to physical retail—and how unhappy will iTunes be about that? Let the guessing begin. (10/24a)

Looks like a label is experimenting with how much iTunes takes away from CD purchases.

I mean it seemed to help KId Rock when he didn't allow All Summer Long on iTunes. That drove his album sales immensely.

HITS: What superstar is releasing a late-fourth-quarter album exclusively to physical retail—and how unhappy will iTunes be about that? Let the guessing begin. (10/24a) Well Artpop is already on iTunes, so no Gaga. Eminem I wouldn't call Nov. 5th "late Q4", 1D aren't a singular "superstar", so Britney maybe (though I cant see that happening..)? I can't imagine a big mainstream artist doing this though.

The preorder page offers no digital copies, even offered through the official site, and Amazon only has physical pre-orders ( standard / two-disc deluxe) of the album. ETA: "Late Q4" is a bit of an eyebrow-raiser, though, considering Em's out in November as upsidedown said. Hehe, maybe it'll be Beyoncé? :kii:

I'm thinking it's an artist who does not currently have an album scheduled.
And since none of his albums are on iTiunes, I'm going with Garth Brooks!

Capitol expected 450k for Katy? Further proof that her numbers are disappointing.

Those projections were 150K too high (at least) for Katy and I am going to say about 150K too high for Gaga too. I would expect closer to 300-350K for Gaga.

That looks way too high for Gaga. Eminem has been incredibly consistent but 750k still sounds high.

I like the way they have packed the physical CD with various other products. It actually makes you feel like you got something. Since these combo products are a bit more expensive - great Xmas wish list. Em is one of the few acts that could pull this off. If sales are significantly below expectations, they can quickly get it digital retailers giving it a second wind. Along those lines, anyone have a clue how Amazon's "AutoRip" program has been working? The pricing is a bit inconsistent - there are times when the price difference between physical CD and mp3 album can be pretty big (on either side). For example, OneRepublic "Native" 6.99 mp3/audio 11.88 (so if you want AutoRip, it's 11.88 for both); Bangerz, it's the opposite 13.99 mp3/11.49 Audio/AutoRip.

Eminem's album is up for iTunes pre-order, so it's not him. Beyoncé gets a brief mention in the Rumor Mill today, so it's probably her; Britney goes to preorders next week when "Perfume" is released, so it isn't her. The only other option among those who've already announced albums would be Bieber, if they do something like that to combat whatever the deal is with Complete My Album sales losses or whatever. /coherence

It's definitely Beyoncé. I just don't get what's the purpose of releasing exclusively to physical retail.

Beyonce would be surprising to do retail only, unless it's just for the first week. It's possible that she took tips from Jay-Z, but it would surprise me because of her audience. Eminem almost seems like a more realistic choice but we know it's not him. I would expect it to be someone of a more rock origin but there aren't any other major names putting out music this year, is there? U2?
Had this been asked months ago, I might have said Arcade Fire.

Beyonce is still on tour? She won't be able to do promo so why an album (also only 2 months left of the year so very tight schedule too)

Hits News:
With Capitol’s Katy Perry selling 287k in her debut week—and several blockbuster Q4 releases still in the pipeline—now seems an opportune time to take a look at Katy’s diva peers. By which we mean solo female artists whose album releases in the past few years bowed with 200k or more—and also those who grew that first-week number into astronomical cumulative sales. For giant first-week sales, the gold, er, platinum standard of recent times is Big Machine’s Taylor Swift, whoseRed debuted with 1.2m way back in 2012 and has moved a mighty 3.8m to date. Lady Gaga, whose 2011 Interscope set Born This Waybowed with 1.1m, gets an asterisk in the record book thanks to a 99-cent price point (see below); it’s sold 2.3m so far. In any case, Gaga’s forthcoming ARTPOP is likely to place her in the upper tier regardless of its suggested list—the current first-week forecast is 375k. XL/Columbia’s Adele also put out a pretty successful record in 2011. It was called 21, and in March 2011 it had an impressive 353k bow. It’s had a decent run since, as we recall, selling … wait, we had it here somewhere … ah, right: 10.8 million freaking records. So although she’s only the fourth-highest-selling in terms of recent debuts by a solo female, Adele sets the diamond standard for long-run sales in the diva games. Perry’s prior release, 2010’s Teenage Dream, bowed with 192k but has gone to do about 2.8m. Her first-week number for PRISM puts her squarely in the pack of solo female superstars, alongside such fierce competitors as Interscope’s Madonna, RCA’s P!nk and Miley Cyrus, Columbia’s Beyonce, Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna,YM/CM/Republic’s Nicki Minaj and 19/Arista Nashville’sCarrie Underwood. Let’s take a look at these divas’ figures. Um, their salesfigures, of course. ARTIST STREET DEBUT RTD TAYLOR SWIFT 9/12 1.2m 3.8m LADY GAGA 5/11 1.1m* 2.3m MADONNA 4/12 359k 553k ADELE 3/11 353k 10.8m BEYONCE 7/11 313k 1.3m KATY PERRY 10/13 287k -- P!NK 9/12 280k 1.8m MILEY CYRUS 10/13 270k 386k C. UNDERWOOD 5/12 267k 1.5m NICKI MINAJ 4/12 253k 869k RIHANNA 9/12 237k 1.1m *Sold for 99 cents at Amazon on Tuesday and Thursday of release week. The 300k threshold is tough to break for solo females, even if they’re riding the momentum of a big hit (or, in Miley’s case, two). That said, it should be underscored that (a) selling 200-300k records in one’s first week is an impressive feat in any case, and certainly these days, and (b) from such first-week seeds mighty sales oaks can grow. The 2013 diva games continue with Columbia’s Celine Dion (due out 11/5; prior first week 214k) Gaga (11/11) and RCA’s Britney Spears (12/3; last debut 276k).

I'm totally happy with this, but I still hope it'll go over 400k. That would be satisfying.

I love that Madonna is still mentioned as a huge album seller 30 years into the game.

Can't wait for Gaga's numbers, we are either going to have major meltdowns here and at UKmix, or beyond estatic Monster's. Many LM's are convinced she can't debut under 400k.
