The Upper Hand - Are you counting BDS or Mediabase numbers for the Airplay. If Mediabase then 210M is impossibly low, I think it will be higher that 210M on BDS too. Oh, I see, you were counting 90M for Katy, so it's obvs BDS. Also don't count with Katy beating Robin in streaming.

was wondering if someone could post what the top 3 songs wouldve been under the old (pre 2013 formula)? Someone did it last week. Mainly wondering if Katy wouldve been #1 again this week or if Robin wouldve taken it back. Thks.

Here's a question -- will streaming of the live VMA performances be factored in next week? If they counted Harlem Shake fan videos I'm assuming that it would, right? This should probably benefit Miley quite a bit as it's all anyone seems to be talking about online right now. Most of the Harlem Shake videos were the actual song playing. Whilst the VMA performances aren't the actual song, so the technology they use to see which videos contain audio of a song might not find the videos. I don't know really, I guess we'll see next week, but we can't be certain they will be counted. I guess maybe they will be counted, since some of the unofficial UOENO remixes that got counted might've used a slightly different beat to the original.

If you are a Katy Perry fan there is a lot to like about this weeks results. Sales only dropped by 30%, airplay and streaming are gaining nicely and BL is dropping in all 3 sub-components of the Hot 100. A multi week run at the top could start as soon as next week.

Well her label perfectly crafted a series of calculated promo spots. First the teasers, then the release, banner after banner, then the lyric video, then the VMA's, now another banner with the album preorders, another performance next week, then the video. It's all very well thought-out. Brilliant marketing.

The funny thing is that Applause appears to almost be an equal to Roar on the pure H100 chart. The public doesn't see much difference between #2 and #4 (rising from #6). They have no clue just how big the gap is between 1/2 and the rest of the chart. So this is a bit of a PR "win" for Ga.

Too bad Paul can't get his facts rights. "It’s Gaga’s ninth top five hit; her first since “The Edge Of Glory” hit #2 in May 2011."

Ah - the 'general public' again. Yes, I personally do not know anyone who would know or care what song is #2, #4 or #6

The top 10 is published all over the place, the Hot 100 is also readily available, it is only the chart geeks that track it. That is not most of the public

Are there sales numbers for Wrecking Ball? By comparing the songs performance on iTunes against Blurred Lines, it sold 68,000 copies on Sunday. By doing the same thing with Berzerk, it looks like it sold 38,000 copies on Tuesday and 88,000 copies today. These numbers will count for next week's chart. Ok thank you. I am hoping it can beat We Can't Stop's first full week

I really wish she had come back with a much more innovative sound at least.

So you'd rather root for a label that doesn't know what the fuck they're doing?

That is not most of the public my close friends that know i'm a chart geek laugh and definitely think it's weird and funny that I do. but they always ask me questions about what # a song went to, then actually place bets with me sometimes, which I 99.9999999% of the time win.

So you'd rather root for a label that doesn't know what the f**k they're doing? I don't root for labels ever. I root for songs and artists I find interesting. Katy Perry has immense label support -- she could've written music that's much edgier or more innovative and had a huge platform to get it out there, and instead she went very safe and predictable, and it all just feels like a corporate product which bums me out. She's had a lot of music I like (I'm still super impressed that she released ET) but rooting for her now feels like cheering for Walmart or something.

#4 is good enough for Applause, such a mediocre song for a Gaga standard
but im much more excited for Summertime Sadness (not the remix one)....the video also helps to elevate the moody and dark song
a song penned by Rick Nowels who alse co write one of my personal best songs namely White Flag by Dido, The Power of Goodbye by Madonna and Lana's current Young and Beautiful

"Katy will be #1" "New Gaga will debut at #1" "Passenger will reach #1" "Britney will be #1 when her new single comes out" And still there have been only seven number ones this year so far Not all your faves go to #1.

I do genuinely think Passenger has a chance at #1 to be honest. Maybe not #1, but the song will be HUGE I reckon, it has been everywhere else in the world. Here it's currently #3 on the YTD chart (now, whether it's popular is a different matter, I've honestly heard the song like 2 or 3 times this year, but it's certainly selling bucketloads where I live, and pop and adult contemporary radio will be all over it like a Pink song). However, I don't think Avicii is going to get #1 like everybody seems to think... Although it does have amazing crossover-ability thanks to its unique verses, so I might be wrong, but I highly doubt it (and yes, I'm aware of how much it's sold everywhere else). Avicii's song will obviously be a big hit though (it already is). Britney I don't think will manage #1 either. But I definitely think Katy Perry and Passenger have a chance.

Do you guys think Blurred Lines could be #1 on the year end chart? I did some research, and Thrift Shop peaked at 120 million AI... Blurred Lines is currently at 229 million. I know Wikipedia isn't reliable, but it says Thrift Shop has sold 6.8 million copies, out of which 5.8 million were in 2013 (Billboard year is more, so I supposed around 6,4 million this year?). Either way, Blurred Lines was at 4.905 million last week and there are still around 12-13 chart weeks left, so BL might pass them in sales during the chart year. Robin is at 5.152 million this week. Pretty much undeniable that it will be #1 on Digital year end. And apparently Thrift Shop is at 5.854 million so Wikipedia was legit I guess. Is that for the Billboard year though?
