The video just makes absolutely no sense. Katy's videos are always such ridiculously literal interpretations of the lyrics of the song but now she has gone completely the other way and made a video which has absolutely no tie to the song whatsoever. I noticed she managed to get a literal perfect storm in though...I was surprised when there was no literal Dark Horse like the Grammy performance. When the beat drops after the chorus is so awesome it deserves way more visually than that lame arm flick. It's a literal interpretation though. She's an evil empress, you have to be careful when asking her out because she'll eat your heart out like Jeffrey Dalmer etc etc. The guys all try to "play with magic" by trying their luck with her, most of them end up dead from her magic, but the one who gives her the best present ends up getting the "perfect storm". Wait actually the last guy dies too so idgi. But there's a storm so yeah.

Did not care for the art direction at all. Looked like Candyland Egypt or something. And I'm sooooo sick of her corny antics in her vids. Especially since it doesn't fit this song at all. Disappointing, this vid could and should have been epic, but it's just another of her silly throwaway ones. Unconditionally remains the best vid by far of the era.

I really enjoyed the video. It was a lot of fun.
I don't understand why people are bothering to find some sort of deep meaningful undertone to this video. There clearly isn't one. She was just being kitschy. This is Katy Perry we are discussing here. Take the video for what it's worth.
I do agree that I wish the video was as epic as I imagined it in my mind, but the video is by no means boring or dull to watch.

Typical Katy Perry video. The ending didn't make any sense though. I would've prefer her turning into an eagle or something. lol

The video was cool, although I was looking for the dark horse in the video. All in all, good video with beautiful scenery. I say great job to Katy anyway for a great video. :)

I like that she made humour her mark on the videos. Dark horse is going to be one of her biggest hits

Oh what the fucking fuck is this??? I feel like I watched a Gaga video. I absolutely love it, my second or third favorite video by her. The best since last August. The scenes are freaking beautiful, she looks better than ever - especially with the white wig. People will love it.

I think my general issue with Katy Perry's music videos is that she and her legions of fans think she's funny and I just...don't.

Well that was something.
I kinda get the feeling that she doesn't like this song that much, and so she is just trying to make it as ridiculous and fun as she possibly can. I dunno.

Especially when she posted this on twitter: "Well... it looks like Dark Horse is literally becoming a Dark Horse of a song! Sounds like the people have spoken... I must listen..." I don't know why but it just sounds kinda snarky...like there is some subtext about people not getting on board with Unconditional...bah, I'm probably reading too much into it.

It was good, I guess. She could have had an actual dark horse come out and break those constant neon colors. Lol

Enjoyed the video but is it so hard for her to film something 'serious'? Props to her though for always putting her humour in the forefront of her videos. I just had a completely different visual for this song.

I just had a completely different visual for this song. She did it the last single era and it didn't work. I would of course prefer this video with dark visuals. Maybe a ritual massacre theme? That'd slay.

She couldn't film a funny video for Unconditionally but this one could definitely benefit from a more dark scenery. Whatever though, it's still good the way it is.

The vision I had of this just matched up more with 'E.T.' In terms or cinematography and overall feel, but I'm OK with this being what it is. Again, I enjoyed it.

People should know better than to expect something serious from Katy. Her best videos, in my opinion, are the most ridiculous ones.

i guess this is the 1st Katy Perry video that really disappoints me i was expecting something totally different, close to her Grammy performance tbh and what's with that weird arm flip on the beat drop? that beat deserves an EPIC dance routine!!! Britney and her impact with arm flips y'all :'(

That looked like a high budget SNL spoof of a Katy Perry video. It actually made me like the song less.
It just looked really tacky and goofy and like she's an artist marketed toward pre-schoolers. What an absolutely terrible video. Especially since she could've made a really interesting, sexy video if she had gone with a witch or goddess theme instead of a Cleopatra acid trip.

Blah... I was very excited about the video after the Grammy performance, I thought it would be amazing. The witch theme would be very cool. The video and the song don't seem to go together at all! I don't like how she thinks she needs to appeal to all cultures. She's not Flopzinger.

I agree, just because it almost felt like it deserved a "darker" video-- aesthetically, anyway. That said, I'm glad this wasn't since I found the ET video boring as all hell, even if it was pretty. I definitely see the humor in Katy Perry, but by no means is she on her way to becoming the next Louis CK. Taking into consideration that her target audience is far younger than the 20-30 something's, I'd say she pulled it off in all its campy glory.

When it first shows her in that blonde wig climbing the gold pyramid she legit looks like a drag queen though.
