So when h8rs say that she only broke the spin record because of added stations we can prove them wrong but if she doesn't break the SPS record we can't

How much are we predicting this to sell by the end of 2014? 5 million seems to be doable at this point, but can it be her second six-million seller (assuming it continues to outsell Roar throughout the year)?

The video is already at 11 million views. It should hit 20 million by the end of Sunday. This will definitely rise up to #1 on Streaming with 10-12 million this week and probably beat "Happy" by like 1%.

LOL Huff, pretentious as ever. Analyzing whether Dark Horse is authentic Egyptian is like analyzing whether California Gurl is a true representation of Cali culture.

DH beat "Roar"'s (and the overall) official SPS record. Roar still unofficially made 99.86 SPS on a Tuesday - to match that, DH needs to reach 17,576. #notgonnahappen

Ugh... I like the video, I guess, it's just that this song deserved something better. The color palette and the quirky side of Katy would have worked flawlessly for something like Birthday, but Dark Horse deserved something darker, haunting, like ET. I guess she wanted to do something unpredictable (we were all expecting a dark forest, witches, magic, night scenary), but she misfired a little bit.

The video sucks. I love Katy and this is the best song on the album but I would rather have no video than that mess.

This video release was kind of pointless; it possibly won't even get the song another week at number one. Good thing the song was strong enough to carry itself. 4 weeks at number one before any video is pretty impressive.

The concept of the video is brilliant if you think about it. A dark horse is something unexpected or unpredicted, that's exactly what she gave us with the video lol.

Ignoring the fact that some of these "questions" were just painfully insipid-- joke or not, failing to understand that the fat man brought twinkies and not "sidewalk chalk" is just stupid-- I like that they claimed she's appropriating a dead culture. They must have been huffing something fierce when they wrote this one up.

the video didn't help this at all on itunes, the gap between DH and Happy is rapidly increasing!

I know they were mostly stupid questions, but they really looked like sidewalk chalks and the "How is this helping her vision?" is one of my legit questions since watching the video for the first time. Saw it then thought it's related and decided to post it. :)

My question is why are people looking to Katy Perry for insight? What "vision" is it that people expect beyond that of a popstar with a ~quirky~ sense of humor? She's not really a strong advocate for anything. She's not really the voice of the people. She just writes catchy pop songs. It isn't that deep, she knows it's not that deep, and frankly I think she uses that to her advantage by producing these mind-numbingly simple videos to compliment her increasingly impressive list of chart-topping hits. And it works.
Now, back to 'Dark Horse'. The video sustained interest. It promotes her craft, as outlined above. It is there that you find her vision (keeping it simple and fun) and from there one would hopefully come to realize that the only way she could have possibly hurt her vision here is if she had pulled a Gaga, produced an entirely too long video saturated with shock value and subliminal messaging, and actually attempted to make a much larger point other than "Egyptians are fun and cool". I mean, honestly, what other artist could have produced this kind of video and gotten away with it?

I personally don't want her to pull a Gaga since I'm getting that from her already. Let her be a mannequin who is dressed up by her team differently for every music video and use these 'personas'.

I guess I don't see any Gaga in her at all, because most of her material seems very devoid of thought. Which is fine, honestly.
I just found that article to be incredibly misguided, and a lot of comments I'm seeing elsewhere that fall in line with it. They don't seem like valid observations, let alone intelligent.

You mentioned that she's not Gaga, I only said that I'm great with it because I already have one. :) There really isn't any Gaga in her.

josh I thought about Ke$ha briefly, but her videos are usually much darker. She could've pulled it off though, yeah. My point was that the video is as "Katy" as it gets, I just didn't word that very well. You mentioned that she's not Gaga, I only said that I'm great with it because I already have one. :) There really isn't any Gaga in her. Oh, I misinterpreted what you said to mean you were starting to see some Gaga in Katy Perry. My b.
