Does this mean it is the official current single now?

Does this mean it is the official current single now? It's the current single for Rhythmic radio, but Capitol is still focusing on Unconditionally for pop radio (as per Gary Trust from Billboard).

That just means Gaga's worst is as good as Katy's best... Hardly gives Katy the upper hand here. Critics are pretty biased based on image and similar factors. I think it means they are more prone to give Gaga a higher score, so it's pretty telling that critical darling Lady Gaga could couldn't get anywhere near her previous albums, while Katy is starting to win them over and convince them that she isn't just a manufactured pop star. I dunno, have you read anything critics have written about Gaga post-BTW? They had no qualms roasting her when Artpop came out.

Does this mean it is the official current single now? Pretty much. Even though the label has essentially given Pop the green light to play it (by sending it to them), I think they'll hold off on a Pop adds date and keep pretending "Unconditionally" is the current single until January to appease Katy.

Even though the label has essentially given Pop the green light to play it (by sending it to them), I think they'll hold off on a Pop adds date and keep pretending "Unconditionally" is the current single until January to appease Katy. I don't think it's just to "appease Katy." There's actually really sound logic into holding out now. "Unconditionally" is still top ten on pop. It's struggling to go higher than number eight, but it's not crashing, either. It is there receiving airplay and letting people know Katy is still here with a current album to sell. If they fully pushed "Dark Horse" to pop right now, "Unconditionally" would crash hard and with the freeze upon us, "Dark Horse" would stall below the top 20, leaving Katy's main format with no current hit single over two of the biggest weeks for music sales of the year. It's better to have a meh-selling hit in the top ten over the holidays than to not have one at all. It makes sense to go ahead with the move on rhythmic, though, because they have nothing to lose anyway since "Unconditionally" isn't even in the top 50 over there. Whether they wait or not for "Dark Horse" won't affect "Dark Horse" much at all. It will be a hit either way. They're doing this to lengthen "Unconditionally" to keep both singles up through the holidays for maximum album sales.

Because people clearly don't know Katy has new music with the massive airplay she just got with "Roar."

It's less about them not knowing and more about their willingness to invest. There are several casual fans that liked "Roar" enough to purchase it but aren't yet 100% sold on purchasing the album. With each additional single that this casual fan becomes familiar with and enjoys, he is increasingly more likely to consider purchasing the full album. One great song might not galvanize you into checking out the album and buying it but two or three new songs by said artist that you really like might. With the surge in holidays record sales imminent, it makes sense to yearn to have the exposure of multiple singles.

It's not really the fact that people don't know, it's just one song either isn't enough or one song that was a hit a few months ago isn't going to be fresh in people's minds when they go to purchase their new music.

Apparently PlayMPE made a mistake on their website, inside the system, it's labeled been serviced to Rhythmic only, not pop panel.

The funny thing to me is, the label said 'WE'RE RELEASING IT TO RHYTHMIC' but all pop heard was 'WE'RE RELEASING IT' and reacted accordingly~

It's coming... Obviously going to be the new year's eve party anthem. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a big boost from the Christmas voucher effect.

This reminds me of "Rude Boy". As soon as they announced it as a single it exploded.

This will obviously cannibalize Unconditionally. As I said in that song's thread, it's funny that PDs actually wait for the go-ahead from the label to play what they want. DH was begging to be "released".

I just feel a bit bad for Katy seeing as she said that UC was her favorite song. :'(

It's weird because so many of the early reviews were calling "Unconditionally" the highlight of the album too or even one of her best songs.
