Sony reportedly admits it faked several Michael Jackson songs on posthumous album Ryan Gaydos By Ryan Gaydos | Fox NewsA Michael Jackson impersonator was reportedly used on a posthumous album. (AP) Sony Music Entertainment reportedly admitted this week to releasing three fake songs on a posthumous Michael Jackson album. The songs “Breaking News,” “Monster,” and “Keep Your Head Up” appeared on the album “Michael” in 2010 and were sung by a King of Pop impersonator, according to Vibe. Vera Serova, a fan, first brought up the allegations in 2014 and filed a class-action lawsuit against the album’s producers, according to Vulture. The songs were actually performed by Jason Malachi, Serova alleged at the time. According to TMZ, he confessed to taking part in the recording back in 2011. Jackson’s longtime friends, Eddie Cascio and James Victor Porte, initially claimed they recorded the songs in a basement in 2007, but failed to back up their claim. Serova noticed dozens of inconsistencies with the songs and used an audiologist to back up his own theory, according to a hip-hop website. Sony claimed in court it had the right to advertise the album as Jackson’s despite using the impersonator, according to Vulture. A court will decide the label’s culpability in the next few weeks. Yeah, they didn't actually confess anything. They were stating "even if it wasn't Michael, you don't have a case," which some outlets grossly misinterpreted as an admission.

Can’t believe I did not know there was a music video shot for “One More Chance” until today, and that it was finally released in 2010.
I think I remember the montage video when the single was first released so I never bothered to see it again, let alone know the original one was released.

Sony may unearth new songs individually over the next months and years“Xcsape” — which saw producers like Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins craft new tracks built around decades-old, unreleased Jackson vocals — yielded “Love Never Felt So Good,” Jackson’s first platinum hit in two decades. Then earlier this year Drake used an unreleased Jackson vocal on his latest album, “Scorpion.” The track came from a 1983 session Jackson did with collaborator Paul Anka, who floated the track to a number of artists, including Tyga, before Drake heard the vocal, which was just a demo of the singer doing a quick take. “Drake was so passionate about it,” Branca said. “It was like how could we not do this one? It fit so well.” Although the record is a top 10 hit, Sony and the estate aren’t clamoring to milk Jackson’s unheard vocals. A collaboration similar to the Drake feature is unlikely to happen again, they say, and there are no immediate plans for a posthumous album. However, that’s not to say fans won’t be hearing any “new” music from Jackson soon, as the other co-executor of the estate, John McClain, is reworking a batch of tracks alongside a high-profile producer the estate wants to keep secret for a one-off release. “We’re constantly scouring the catalog for ideas, but there are no plans at the moment to put any more full-fledged albums out,” said Sony Music Chief Executive Rob Stringer. “We are looking at one-off songs, and in this streaming world that works because it’s a track-based world. There are a few gems out there that we may unearth individually over the next months and years, but we're also very, very careful to make sure the fan base doesn’t feel like they've been asked yet again to buy material they have.” It’s that robust presence on music streaming services that inspired last year’s “Scream.” “We are very careful about repacking and extremely cognizant of the fan base that has everything,” Stringer said. “What's interesting with Michael is that not all artists have managed to bridge the gaps from the physical world to the iTunes world to the streaming world, but with Michael that's not the case. His streaming numbers are incredible. “The technology at the moment enables us to do something different and highlight different songs and create concepts that will lead people to a greater understanding of the wider catalog of Michael’s work.” Source

Because I'm a nerd who had way too much time on his hands for a week or so last fall I had time to create an MJ Halloween playlist that I actually listen to on the reg. Not every song is actually Halloween themed, and some I chose for their titles only ("Scream," "Morphine," "State Of Shock” to name a few) but I actually quite like this playlist. I even made album artwork for it which is pretty basic but I wanted a picture for my iTunes playlist so I made the artwork, it's just a rework of the Scream album from last year. I obviously drew inspiration from Thriller for the font and its basic but f**k it, it works. I sort of envision it as a double disc set (which oddly has exactly the same run time for Side A and B - 48 minutes) and I called it Threatened. I included some rare extended mixes for some songs (including the 7" Edit of "Off The Wall" which I adore - that reverb!) and used "2 Bad" since it was included in the short film Ghosts. It features Janet Jackson, Rockwell, The Jackson 5/Jacksons, Diana Ross and Mick Jagger. Anyhow, thought I'd share it. Enjoy! lol Disc One
Behind The Mask Somebody’s Watching Me (Rockwell ft. Michael Jackson) Blood On The Dance Floor Threatened Off The Wall [7” Remix] Morphine State Of Shock (The Jacksons & Mick Jagger) Eaten Alive [12” Extended Version] (Diana Ross ft. Michael Jackson) 2 Bad Someone In The Dark [From “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial“]
Disc Two
Heartbreak Hotel (The Jacksons) Ghosts Thriller Smooth Criminal Torture [12” Dance Mix] (The Jacksons) Scream (Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson) The Boogie Man (The Jackson 5) Is It Scary [Radio Edit] Scared Of The Moon Blood On The Dance Floor X Dangerous [The White Panda Mashup]

This video always makes me tear up. Not only because we will never see legends like this on the same stage ever again, but also how highly Michael regarded James and was so humble around him. How Michael felt about Iames, I felt about Michael. youtu.be/mP711jibSc4

I’m gonna reserve judgment about this until it premieres but I suspect the estate will have something to say about it and I have a sneaking suspicion of who the two men might be and if so they have already had their case tossed once. If my suspicions are true then this is truly sad and shameful.

Like I said I’ll see what comes of this. I don’t have complete blinders on in regard to MJ (though I do believe he was innocent) so I say let them have their say. I just think it’s a little tacky since he’s not around to defend himself unlike R. Kelly.

I would highly suggest reading the summaries of the court records. Unlike R. Kelly who has actual evidence against him, there was so little of actual substance, but the media sensationalized it and swayed public opinion against him so much when there was little to no weight to the accusations.
It's a long read, but I highly recommend it.

I just think it’s a little tacky since he’s not around to defend himself unlike R. Kelly. I say this as a general statement and not about MJ specifically. If someone was in fact abused and never got any real justice/closure, I don't see why it matters if their perpetrator is dead. Victims deserve the right to tell their story and heal.
