AllAccess published some panel changes from Mediabase going into effect on Monday and the AC formats are the most affected this time around:
AC DROP WMGV/Greenville, NC Moves To Hot AC DROP KBEE/Salt Lake City, UT Moves To Hot AC DROP WSGL/Ft. Myers, FL Moves To Hot AC DROP WGYL/Ft. Pierce, FL Moves To Hot AC DROP KYIS/Oklahoma City, OK Moves To Hot AC HOT AC ADD WMGV/Greenville, NC Moves From AC ADD KBEE/Salt Lake City, UT Moves From AC ADD WSGL/Ft. Myers, FL Moves From AC ADD WGYL/Ft. Pierce, FL Moves From AC ADD KYIS/Oklahoma City, OK Moves From AC ADD WNTR/Indianapolis, IN ADD KMVA/Phoenix, AZ Moves From Top 40
Expect some big spin drops on AC and larger gains than normal on Hot AC come next week. As a result, the AC panel drops to 95 stations and Hot AC gets boosted up to 101.

I haven't looked at panel sizes in years, but I remember about 140 markets being monitored and I thought AC used to have at least 120 stations. If that's true, 95 stations now is a drop of over 20%. I counted 149 stations listed on www.allaccess.com/mediabase/q/report/stations/by/format/for/A1 which is not how many you said so where do you look?

AC stations just aren't what they used to be. we don't even have "a listen at work station" in the market in KC anymore. I really miss having a true AC station. Where they played a lot of gold records from 70s, 80s and 90s. and they would make songs hits on their own format. now AC is just a much slower moving HOT AC. hate it

Magic 106.7 (in Boston) is still an OK AC station, but it has recently slanted toward much more current/upbeat music. They even changed out their bumps and station promos to promote it as a 'the best variety' station rather than the 'at work listening station.' It still does play some 70s records, but is heavier on the 80s and 90s and on some currents.
That said, I agree with the overall sentiment about AC radio. Outside of Michael Buble and Josh Groban, there aren't any artists that can build a brand on AC radio. And some of the older artists, even from the late 90s and early 2000s, are unable to find a home on AC since the format now plays stale top 40 hits from the past 2-3 years.

My local CHR station, 98.1 WKDD here in Akron appears to be switching back to Hot AC. Strange because it wasn't at all mentioned on the panel changes.
