I know this is the unpopular opinion, but I really don't get the song. Why is everyone freaking out over it? I love a good piano ballad as much as anyone, but the lyrics and delivery seem...basic.
Obviously no one in the world agrees with me so this is going to light the chart on fire.

The Bieb's latest Monday release has jumped over everybody and now is on top.
Was nice for AGBW to let her sing the bridge for this performance. I do like the restrained quality of her singing on this track.

The version without Christina is now Top 40 on iTunes as well. The public is catching on to the fact that they have an option.

Since then it's grown on me a little but I still don't get what's so great about it. It's just so boring.

The version without Christina is now Top 40 on iTunes as well. The public is catching on to the fact that they have an option. It rose when it was re-released with Christina earlier too. The substantial sales are still coming from the new version. Nobody is trying to discredit AGBW and their impact with their OWN song. The one thing you guys cannot deny is that without The Voice and Christina's name attached they wouldn't be serving the gigs they are right now. Eventually, maybe. Immediately like this, no.

I don't really understand the lyrics. Is it "Say something I'm giving up on you?" Sounds like a non-sequitur to me. What am I missing?

Maybe it would help if you saw a comma. "Say something, I'm giving up on you." Anyway, stunning song. All of the performances so far have been beautiful, and hopefully this will show Christina that her voice is loved when she tones it down. Please don't go back to straining and over-singing, it's a total disservice to your talent.

If people would have bought Bionic they would have gotten softer vocals. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Well if we base it on the examples given in that article then "ellipsis" doesn't really explain it since most if not all of the examples are just about avoiding repeating the same words that have already been used in the sentence again. That doesn't seem to be the case with "say something, I'm giving up on you" though, imo. I for one just take it as them exercising their right of creative license and leave it at that. It doesn't take away from the song anyways, at least for me.

I just want people here that are saying that the song is selling 'purely because One Big World is a new act' to school me why the song wasn't a hit before Christina name was attached to it ![](http://i.minus.com/ibqnzygKtvpbkJ.gif)

I don't really understand the lyrics. Is it "Say something I'm giving up on you?" Sounds like a non-sequitur to me. What am I missing? As I see it, it means "look, I'm leaving, aren't you gonna say anything?". It seems like A loves B, but B is not corresponding and is not brave enough to say it. A can't stand anymore the situation and the last desperate measure is to leave, as an attempt to make B express finally how he/she feels. That's how I see "say something I'm giving up on you".

I finally listened to this to see what the fuss was about, and then I was like "oh, it's one of those songs..." ![http://www.laprogressive.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Sad-black-woman.png](http://www.laprogressive.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Sad-black-woman.png) Yeah, "those songs..."

I'd say a lot of what is making this song cause such a stir is because it's out of left-field for Christina. I don't think Christina is the most important part of the song but I think having her name on it drew people in. When the initial listeners heard that she sounded so unlike herself and the song was one of "those songs", word of mouth spread. So this song is benefitting from the big name but also for the novelty aspect of it being by a new artist. Christina's role in the song is small enough that she isn't taking away from it being like this year's Somebody That I Used To Know.
It's a win-win, really.
