While "Burning Bridges" heads to Australian stations, the Alesso rework of OneRepublic's "If I Lose Myself" is next in the UK, according to the band's Twitter. It's BBC Radio 1's Track of the Day as well. ETA: Wow, this sure does suck a lot of the life out of the original.

This is cheesy club EDM at its best, but I really like it anyway? It was actually a cardio playlist mainstay for me this past summer. As such I'm sick of it but back then I'd have LOVED for it to be a hit single. Eh, still can't complain I suppose.

Quite disappointed with this news, I love "Something I Need" (more than "Counting Stars" even) and was looking forward to that charting internationally while I don't like this at all :( I expect it will be a moderate success as OneRepublic and generic dance breakdowns are both popular at the moment and I think I'm less fond of the remix than most are, but it's not how they should be promoting OneRepublic. Releasing this is like if Lana Del Rey had gotten huge chart success with one of her original songs, and then it was followed with either of the Cedric Gervais remixes. In her actual situation the "Summertime Sadness" remix worked well for her because it got her charting where her original songs didn't, providing a pathway to future success with original material. With OneRepublic though, they already have their chart success. Something like this won't sell their album and spread their sound, if it flops it'll make it harder for future singles in the UK where post-album success is already difficult to lift off, and if it were to become a major hit it might make people expect more of this from them which is not what they do. All in all, short run success, but in the long run pointless at best, destructive at worst. I expect it to land closer to the former. To end this on a nicer note, I hope the US still gets "Something I Need"! :) ETA: also Alesso's name comes first I think

I'm shocked. I really wasn't expecting this at all. I think OneRepublic decided to go with this after Alesso (and Calvin Harris) recent #1 in the UK with "Under Control". Personally, I really like the remix and it has been huge this Spring/early Summer (North Hemisphere) in the EDM scene, but the radio edit (the one which it's sold on iTunes) is not as good as the extended version sold on Beatport, which it's by far one of the best tracks that Alesso has done. On the other hand, I agree with Slizzard that the beat drop/breakdown could tend to be generic, but I avoid this because the remix itself compliments the original version for me. There's also a video that Alesso posted for the song back in late April, which has footage from his Ultra Music Festival performance and you can listen to the extended remix here. Alesso's name comes first I think I second this and it should be labeled as "If I Lose Myself" (Alesso vs. OneRepublic Remix) as well

I absolutely love the original and I do like the remix, though the original is still the better version. I did my own 90s throwback to big room Trance mashup using Delerium's "Heaven's Earth" instrumental that I have featured in several of my podcasts so far. Anyway, I think someone forgot to put the BPM though~ Basically. I think they use some app to do that and sometimes it's completely wrong.

The remix climbs #65 to #32 in the UK this week. It's OneRepublic's 5th top 40 hit, but I'm personally unwilling to consider this a OneRepublic song.

Imagine this getting re-released to the US after "I Lived" smashes... I think he should go with "Under Control" first. That could potentially be this year's "Titanium." This can do its stuff when OneRepublic are done releasing their own hits.

That would have been the case if "Years" was ever a hit here... But "Years" came out two years ago and was not a hit anywhere. "Under Control" is Alesso's only big international hit and should be his starting point. OneRepublic can do fine with their own sound.

She had a hit basically everywhere else in the world, but still released the remix. She's not the only one though, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis, Florence + the Machine, Usher and countless others have done it. This song isn't making its rounds well in the UK though. My life pretty much revolves around music, but I've yet to hear this song. I think the only place people can really be hearing this is on the radio.

The original is miles better than this remix. What was Alesso thinking?
