It would be so good if she made another album like "Back to Basics." I hope she leaves the dance-pop alone. It is just not for her.

With the exception of Genie in a Bottle and the Mulan song, the B2B era was the only time she ever got it right musically, imo.

I like her debut, I love Stripped and BTB but her last two albums were average, especially Lotus. I'm here for some hip-hop/rnb Christina. <3

Yessss Queen. Keep that post-baby weight off. Also, after all the dust has settled, B2B remains her best album as it is the ONLY one with NO filler. Therefore, I want more of that.

I'd welcome something like B2B, especially if it's only one disc this time around.
Those shots of her from last year on the previous page are incredible, it's so unfortunate she spent a good amount of her 20s and early 30s hiding that beauty under clown makeup.

All of her albums are riddled with filler. Stripped and B2B could have been really excellent, tight, strong pieces of work, but they're very bloated. And the two albums since have been marred with material that's bad (Bionic) or boring (Lotus).

"On Our Way," "Without You," "Here To Stay," "Nasty Naughty Boy," and "I Got Trouble" would like a word with you. Three of those are some of my favorites from that cd and ones I still listen to today. It is weird how people disagree about what the filler is on Christina's cds. I have a pretty specific definition of filler though that I don't think other people use. People seem to use "filler" to mean song I don't like on a cd, but I use it to mean an absolutely lifeless, worthless generic song that is literally just put on a cd because an artist feels like they need 12 songs instead of the 8-9 they have that are actually good. I have never, ever felt like Christina's cds had any true filler until Lotus/Bionic. Too long, bloated, and not cohesive? Yes. Full of worthless generic songs that no one likes even her? Never. Maybe songs people don't like or don't feel like fit the flow of the cd, but never just generic, lifeless songs tacked on for no reason just for length. It is part of the reason I loved B2B and Stripped so much. You can tell how much she loved all of those songs and crafted them pretty specifically for the cd to the point of not being able to cut it down even if it was lacking cohesiveness and got too long. That, to me, is a much better problem to have though than the obvious lack of effort and care that went into Lotus. Now, THAT had filler.

But yeah, what LPL said, basically re: filler. I forget the exact year it came out but B2B was in my Top 5 out of 50 for that year. Incredible album. Her voice was still intact and she breathed LIFE into those songs.

People seem to use the word "filler" to describe songs they don't personally like.
"Lotus" had some filler, but IMO, "Stripped" and "Back To Basics" did not.
It has always seemed to me that Christina intended to create those two albums as records that detailed where she was at in her life, and how she wanted to make them specific to the current inspiration in her life, and you can't do that with albums full of radio fodder.
"Without You," "On Our Way," etc. aren't as strong as the best songs on B2B, but she was speaking as a married woman who was clearly in love with her man and expressing that through every single track on the record.
"Bionic" was messy, but again, it also felt her heart was in that record, unlike that last one.
Say what you want about her vision being "bloated" or whatever, but I'd much rather have an artist do too much than showcase a lack of effort (ex. Lotus).
I DO think there were a few genuine bright spots on "Lotus," but it felt more like a record made a fulfill a contractual obligation/tie in with "The Voice" than an actual record she wanted to promote and believed in fully.
I've accepted she'll never reach the level of vocal/musical perfection of B2B (which is a damn shame, she peaked way too early), but I just want something that she has her heart fully invested in this time around.
Holy shit, she looks AMAZING in those photos. Why couldn't she have looked that flawless during the last era?
Damn, woman. Slay those basic bitches. :'(

I always thought that she had the biggest balls to release a retro/jazz album during the time when her peers went very commercial. Bey and JT even commented how they appreciated her approach during that time when she could have easily went to Tim, Pharrell, and Will.I.Am for hits. The fact it sold 1.7 million at the price of $15+ is outstanding. That was one of the best eras ever as a fan because she slayed EVERY time she got on stage.

A few things..
1) The BtB era was awesome. The album, music videos ('Candyman' is still my favorite video of hers), performances, tour, photo shoots...everything was fantastic and well-done. Whoever said that 'Without You' and 'I Got Trouble' are filler...you've got to be kidding. Crazy. The only albums of hers that contain any real filler are Bionic and Lotus. Even her debut is solid from start to finish and is one of the better pop records to come out of that period.
2) I'm glad to hear that she's looking for hip-hop-flavored songs for the next album, especially if she wants material akin to her work with DJ Premier. I was a little worried that we'd get a lame, mushy album about her being a mother and wife, so I'm thrilled that that doesn't seem to be the case.
3) She looks great in those pics posted above. I see she's already basically back to her pre-baby weight.

With her talent and looks, not to mention affiliation with the Voice, it really shouldn't be difficult for her to make a comeback.
All she needs is a hit. Then album sales, tour interest, etc will naturally follow. Clive Davis said something like this in his book. She just makes it hard for herself. But judging from last year's slayage I do think she's finally ready. I'm excited for what's to come. :)

It would be one of the most interesting career trajectories I have ever watched if she could manage to get a real hit again especially if it goes beyond J.lo type hits (some airplay hits, but nonexistent album sales). Though, right now I just want another genuinely good cd from her. Something that, to me, hasn't happened since B2B. Bionic had some great highs, but overall didn't work and Lotus was uninspired for the most part.

I was listening to Christina the other day, and I realized how remarkably well her discography has aged for me, despite the fact that she only has 5 albums. There are still several songs on each of her albums that I absolutely love to this day. Debut: Genie, I Turn To You, Reflection, Love For All Seasons, When You Put Your Hands On Me Stripped: Dirrty, Fighter, Beautiful, The Voice Within, Soar, Cruz, Get Mine Get Yours, Keep On Singin' My Song B2B: Everything Hurt, ANOM, Save Me From Myself Bionic: You Lost Me, Vanity, I Am, Little Dreamer, All I Need Berlesque: Bound To You, Something's Gotta Hold On Me, Express (JAM) I even still jam to "Till Ya Head Back" and Lady Marmalade will always be perfect. I've (kinda) already accepted Christina will never be back to where she was during her best eras, but as long as she continues to deliver great stuff here and there that's true to her vision and doesn't have her selling out for a hit (ex. Less FTM and more Say Something), I'm here for anything she wants to do.

Bionic: You Lost Me, Vanity, I Am, Little Dreamer, All I Need Someone else who likes 'Vanity'! I love that song in all of its kitschy, campy glory...it's my favorite uptempo of hers, easily.

According to the Daily Mail, they were actually there together...in one pic, you can see them talking to each other, and it looks like they're sitting at the same table.

I recommend making a Bionic playlist removing all the songs the label made her record to get "radio hits."
It then becomes a much more cohesive artistic body of work and is probably my favorite Christina album in that form.

Which songs would you take out? I feel like tracks like Not Myself Tonight and My Girls should be removed and put all the deluxe edition tracks on the regular

Not Myself Tonight can stay, especially the ending. I would keep: all ballads (so devastatingly gorgeous, especially YLM, which is one of my all-time favorites of hers), Bionic, Elastic Love, Woohoo, Desnudate, Prima Donna (as dated as it is, she kills it), NMT, Monday Morning, and Little Dreamer (also one of her absolute best). The rest...I don't really care about, especially My Girls, I Hate Boys and Vanity. I have no idea how those made it off the cutting room floor. . I guess I just made my ultimate Bionic album LOL.
