I have a hard time believing Say Something will be a major gift card beneficiary. The songs that really explode always seem to be much more uptempo, fun dance type songs. Which is why I still think Timber is going to be the biggest winner. (I should note I hate the song so this is not wishful thinking on my part.)

Say Something will not do that well around this time period but out of the top 4 songs on the hot 100 it has the biggest chance of getting that Valentines day sale boost come around next Feb.

Well, I'm surprised timber is still holding well on iTunes, considering that timber is also new! It was until this month that it started to explode on the radio. But this week the radio updates for timber has been poor! I mean today it only gained 4 spins on pop, while say something gained over 100 spins. Clearly timber has an excuse to fall on iTunes because it has been snubbed by radio this week. Counting stars seems to be the most benefited in my opinion, but it's logic, this song has a stronger airplay than timber. It has almost the massive airplay of the monster. Cc is massive too! Your definition of free falling is throwing me off. I don't think SS is free falling. It's not like it's #15 or something.

Also how can you say the radio update for Timber is poor when it's already one of the biggest hits at the moment.

Well the song was number 1 on iTunes and fell to 4! And It hasn't gotten a dark green update since it lost the top spot, which is weird considering that it has been the less affected by the freeze. It should not be decreasing cause this week radio has stopped to over play timber, cs, and tm to favor SS, yet SS doesn't take advantage of that.

By that logic, shouldn't almost every song near the top of iTunes be Christmas-related since those were the songs getting huge gains in place of currents? Radio and iTunes sales do not rise and/or fall concurrently or proportionally. Yes, radio can help raise awareness of a song and thereby help drive sales, but expecting some sort of direct correlation between every airplay gain and every sales gain makes no sense.

Yeah, but last week when timber was at #2, some Christina Aguilera fans were claiming that say something had superior sales and with less airplay, but this week, SS has gotten a stronger airplay, so, why it's not holding well on iTunes?

That's because Say Something has less airplay, therefore more to gain than Timber, Timber is so far up the airplay that it doesn't have much space to gain during the freeze like the below songs do, and as for the iTunes thing Timber is an upbeat song, Say Something isn't, of course it's winning, but I still say Say Something has a chance at #1.

"Timber" deserves that #1 on the Hot 100 but I think "Dark Horse" will be the one that dethrones "The Monster".

I disagree on some level. People expect more exposure to result in more sales. That makes very good sense if you ask me. Sales can be done in an instant. Airplay typically has to build up. So it's only logical to assume that sales will rise almost immediately after airplay does. It's very hard to sustain sales with no airplay to smooth out the ups and downs of promotion. TV exposure bumps in sales typically lasts about 3 days if there is any bump at all. An artist can't be on TV every single day save for being in an advertising campaign.

If it's not timber, I feel that counting stars will dethrone the monster. TM is already dying in airplay. Plus, the Christmas gift card boost only lasts 2 or 3 days. On the other hand, counting stars and timber are taking off worldwide right now. I think people is over estimating dh! Yeah it might hit #1 in the US, but that's because Katy is on fire, but watch its poor worldwide performance? That make us doubt of its longevity in the long term.

Is "Dark Horse" actually being pushed anywhere besides the US yet, though? I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Yeah, I know she just performed "Unconditionally" on X Factor finale in the UK. It didn't even make the top 20 after that, and X Factor is huge there. I expect DH to be promoted worldwide in January.

Say Something should keep dropping as the X Factor hype dies out, it really has no appeal factor.

Does anyone know why Dark Horse wasn't allowed to chart in Australia? It was in the top 10 on ITunes for nearly two months while they pushed that other garbage song "Unconditionally" which only peaked at #11 there, and yet Dark Horse still wasnt allowed to chart? Did the label screw up at a top 10 opportunity there?

Say Something has two versions in the top 200 at #4 and #125 while Timber only has 1. It might still be outselling Timber. Obviously this song is really connecting with people otherwise it wouldn't go to #1 every time it's played and I doubt it has anything to do with X factor.

Did the label screw up at a top 10 opportunity there? Why would the label want the actual single to be completely overshadowed by (what was at the time) a mere buzz track? IDK if that's actually why, but the fact that it wasn't a proper single may have had something to do with it.
